in El-P's head he's like "I spent 10 years hauling ass trying to run Def Jux, dealing with Megalah's bullshit and I could have just been a lawyer or a cop this whole time?! FUCK"
Killer Mike might be one of the smartest dudes in the music industry. I love listening to him just...talk. He has so much wisdom on life and love and just being a good person.
It appears to me that none of the comments so far have mentioned just how classy RTJ were in this interview to meet all of the reporters (potentially loaded) questions with their honest message. These guys are so raw that they know exactly where they stand on the issues they care about. And of course, just spreading their brand of love as per usual!
Maybe she understood who she was talking to a bit and knew how to ask questions which they could elaborate on the way they want to. They didn't seem uncomfortable at all during this interview, and actually seemed excited to be able to talk and elaborate on some things freely without the interviewer butting in all the time.
So these guys just came up on one of my random playlist type things, and I said to my friend That this guy sounds just like killer mike. Funny to finally see that it actually was him. Hah.
-tag team of the century -give the reporter a break, she's doing a good job explaining RTJ to an non-hip hop audience, also her research is solid -humor is an ally -truth lives in humor RTJ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Kevin Toombs I understand what you mean, but the goal of this question is too get the guys talking about these issues that she knows matter to them. And again, get them to express their views to a larger audience. She knows where they stand; she wants them to explain that to the people watching in the UK. Also, I'd be curious to know your opinion on my own RTJ interviews. Circa 2015. Check it.
Agreed 4rest, not every interview has to be a Nardwuar interview where the interviewer asks what their babysitter's license plate was in 4th grade. Interviews and other sources overlap sometimes, whatever
+4rest spot on. I've seen American interviewers like to make it about them. This is a lot better. Knowing how to set the stage for them to talk about themselves and later, their views with her questions.
I love how Mike kept taking the interviewers "in the US" questions and letting her know these issues are happening around the world and it's a bigger problem than just in the states.
Nah bruh just saying that Killer Mike do have a lil NY vibe even though from lives and breathes ATL all day. Trust me Mike's social consciousness is one of the main reasons why I'm a fan...and I've been following El-P since his Company Flow/Rawkus Records days.
well because to be perfectly honest the average person doesn't care about any issues they just wanna hear a song with a nice beat and watch girls shake their ass lol. I don't want to be one of those guys whos like "everyones dumb but me... all music nowadays is crap" but its kinda true theres so much dumb shit going in the world nowadays its like an epidemic lol.
When I first heard Funcrucher Plus all those years ago ("I don't try to be different, I _am,_ so inevitably my style will survive when your now turns to then") I did not envision seeing El Producto interviewed on Channel 4 News about President _Donald Trump..._
good for you interviewer for keeping up with these two - this would not be an easy interview but it must also have been incredibly rewarding and memorable
As usual, these two represent themselves effortlessly. Everyone is commenting on how classy and whatnot they are but I think it has more to do with them just being smart to begin with and also being older. Perspective reigns as you age. I love how this vid ends with what EL says too.
I've been a fan of Killer Mike for his political activism but I"m waaay late to Run The Jewels... but damn these guys might be my favorite group after hearing RTJ 4, time to go back and digest their discography.
There are so many comments about being mad about comments that are nagging about the interviewer that I don't even see comments that are nagging on the interviewer.
Run The Jewels is the best thing which ever happened to music in the present times, we need more artists like them out there! I share the vision to see the world move towards more equal and liberal state and people like Killer Mike and El-P give me hope! It would have been so much better a world if we were exposed to art, music, literature etc. more than the daily tiring day-to-day schedules, on this note I do agree with the message for 'Robots-for-all'(unless they go SkyNet mode)! Love from India!
Everyone here is arguing and fighting giving mean and hurtful opinions for no reason and I'm like, “Did y'all see mikes chain!. That angel is sic-wit-it.” I appreciate RTJ and their brilliance in both music and interviews.
I love the business model too, if you're good people will pay you. I've downloaded all their albums for free but have been to two shows and bought merchandise.
I listen to the RTJ3 album on youtube, I enjoyed it that much I bought it to listen on the go without being connected to the internet, I support artists I love and artists who love their followers back, I discovered these two literally last week and I'm a a fan already, they are a breath of fresh air frankly. Keep doing what you're doing RTJ because I'm here for the long run.
The guy is wildly intelligent. I could listen to him talk about life in general for hours. EL-P too. I'm not a big hiphop fan, more punk rock, but these guys are so addictingly good, if you dont like them then you're deaf in one way or a other.
Your ability to express "A" political views in this interview is inspiring in a time when "they want to divide us by red and blue. Been loving ya'll's work since the 20th century. Keep up the good work men. Your on the cutting edge, sadly mostly alone.
mike just has the perfect voice for rap plus he's so knowledgable and articulate. el-p is such a talented producer too. went to an RTJ show last year in london and it was brilliant
only issue I have is why the interviewer uses an exclusively different mic for her questions? it makes her sound like her takes were edited in later due to the different noise+reverb
To show how close and connected these 2 are with each other watch a 335 till 340 they both get a itch in the exact same spot at the exact same time lol
People who are criticising the interviewer don't understand journalism. It's her job to ask uncomfortable questions that aren't scripted by their publicist. I've learned more from this interview than 100 dull self-promoting videos by bands.
Is so good to see a white rapper thats not trying to be black that is actually smart and well spoken, and a black rapper thats not acting like a thug, but instead has good opinions on... everything really. It gives me hope on this artform
Agree 1000% with Mike on the 'I do see color' statement. Too many passive, non-confrontational people walking around saying "I don't see color". That's a cop out. You should see color and you should respect our differences. We all have to fit in and assimilate to a certain degree for things to work. If you say, "I don't see color", then you are as blind as the racist, bigots you claim to be against. These men are the shit. Saw them for the first time this year in Royal Oak, MI and was blown away from my expectations to say the least.
Classy, articulate and well-educated artists. The world needs more people like these two.
I meant the world needs more people who are articulate and well-educated/ well-read. I wasn't strictly referring to artists.
well yea they are 40+ any good rapper or artist that are 40+ are like this, only young rappers aren't like that.
Agreed! :)
Mike "We know we're from different races"
Elp "what?"
Does dad know?
in El-P's head he's like "I spent 10 years hauling ass trying to run Def Jux, dealing with Megalah's bullshit and I could have just been a lawyer or a cop this whole time?! FUCK"

It's the sunglasses.
These guys are straight up role models, they make amazing music and are some of the best people in music these days. We need more people like them.

Tom Smith This is so true. They are grown ass adults, and show it.
Maybe she understood who she was talking to a bit and knew how to ask questions which they could elaborate on the way they want to. god i love killer mike and el-p so much. why? because they feed the village.
how was this not the most upvoted comment here?

23Locks I’m the same way man. My phone background is currently Bernie and Killa Mike

I came here to say that. Good shit, man lol

El p and killer Mike are like two fundamental elements of hip-hop, personified.. social consciousness, and just straight up New York-cool
Green Kid And Killer Mike's from Atlanta

El-P is wearing his RTJ pins so tilted he actually walks with a hunch
these guys are great
I love these guys
Please check if the statue of Eros at Piccadilly Circus is missing because it appears to be hanging around the neck of Killer Mike
Nick Adams I think this particular statue was from Paris, but Killer Mike may have misspoke.

El mentioned Bill Hicks. I already had a ton of respect for him, but wow...
These guys have been in the rap game for over 20 years. This group might be kinda new, but they both have been making music for awhile.
How can you thumbs down this?!?!?!

I really appreciate these guys, quite rare if you ask me...
Killer Mike just cried before the video but they were running out of time for the tears to go away
“Why do we even need to be working. We should all just be chillin’”, “Robots for everybody”. I fucking love this thought process.
Yo who tf is giving this reporter shit? She did a fine job. Asked question. Listen.

Preach brothers!
killer mike is so eloquent i never would have guessed (even though his lyrics are obv dope too)
