    I have been flying dcs for years and watching youtube videos on it for even longer, and this is the highest quality lesson I have ever seen. Jesus man. You simplified something that should have taken me hours to learn in 15min and I was in the air makin it look easy. Thank you

      Thank you! it takes me a quite a while to make these, whilst you could go into a little more depth than i have i've always preferred to give people a baseline to get started with which can then be supplemented with the manual later if they want.

      the only problem since watching your video is that when I cold start the harrier. I can't get it the TPOD into point track mode or if I do, it switches back to area track, but many are having this issue according to the ED forums. any thoughts?

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      I've just given it a look, and yes indeed it looks like the point track is bugged at the moment sadly. Hopefully soon we'l see an update, Razbam has recently been showing off development of the moving map and agm-65e's (laser guided)

    Simply one of the best tutorials for DCS. One reason why I give higher value for the "1 minute tutorials" is that they are fast and quick to go through the specific area. So you don't need to search, listen or read anything but you get quick reminder of things or quick learning. That improves a lot learning in many cases when you can time to time rewatch the 1 minute tutorial when day goes and you have time. The key is just the repetition.
    To get on same level RedKite, I would only ask you to add official timestamps to each part of the tutorial phases. This way when one launch the video, it would be super easy to just click to corresponding position and watch just that.
    This would as well allow to make slightly longer videos of the wider topic, while support simple way to repeat different phases when needed.
    But simply respect and admiration for the quality and time you put on these tutorials, as you do not waste time talking things, waving camera around etc like many others who are anyways doing 25-30min "tutorials".

    The latest patch just changed a lot of this and some of the procedures aren't valid anymore. Given how good your comprehensive updated Hornet guide was here's hoping for one for the harrier too!

      On the list, but it'll be a while I think, TGP videos are massive topics that take ages to write and make. I've already got one big tutorial in progress as is :)

    Thank you so much. Finally... someone bothered to cover it all. Spent hours doing everything right EXCEPT changing from "TRNG" mode. Hell, I thought clicking the OSB would turn it ON. Not that any of the 20 other Vids and Hoggits would mention it. Nooooo, course not.

    • @RedKiteRender

      Thanks Mikkall, I make a point of going in depth, many just go for the quick and easy explanation so users leave not understanding why things work, which leads to problems.

    Thanks for taking the time to make such a great tutorial video. One thing that is super frustrating with the Harrier is that the TPOD goes away after you launch an AGM-65 (unlike the A-10). It makes rapidly launching AGM's nearly impossible, whereas the A-10 can almost ripple-fire AGMs.

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  5 років тому +1

      Yeah the A-10c is something of a masterpiece of software design, provided you've done the recon you can ripple fire smart weapons. The TPOD is something of an afterthought on the harrier. I've found the best way to employ it is to have a dedicated member of my flight using the TPOD to co-ordinate the rest onto targets with laser designation so you don't run into those issues.

    Great tutorial!! An alternative to parking on the roof is using Active Pause (LShift + LWin + Pause). I use it all the time to practice stuff in a semi-realistic way. I believe as of posting this the basic autopilot works now but no Altitude Hold mode as yet? I've been able to put the aircraft in a turn with very slight nose up attitude and engage the AP and it seems to work pretty well as a stop gap Alt.Hold mode until the real functionality is added. I'm sure many others have figured this out by now as well. Thanks very much.

    What I am waiting is to get the DMT to lock and track the flying aircrafts just like in the ARBS manufacturer video shows it to be able.
    You have a 70 degree angle to all directions, so 140 degree in total for vertical as well for horizontal. It gives great possibility for DMT to be used to visually identify the target (as well explained in the manufacturer ARBS video).

      Ive got no idea, real life pilots have fewer issues flying level when focused heads down since you still have peripheral vision and sense of balance. Until we get an altitude hold we'l have to make do.

    It doesn't follow moving targets in 2.5. I've tried it several times, but the PT function doesn't make any difference. When I bound the TGP to a mini joystick and used it with analog inputs, I could engage PT mode but doesn't follow the vehicles. If I use buttons to move the TGP I cannot even switch to PT mode, it swithes back to AR again. Still buggy I guess. And the TPOD is still just "flying" under the middle pylon without any visible attach point. SAD.

    First of all - awesome job, you have my gratitude mate. Is anyone else having issues with the TPOD reverting to "Safe" before impact and uncommanded? I find if I drop all my ordinance the TPOD switches off when I hit "fire" on the laser.
    Probably pilot error somewhere but it's annoying!!

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      I think if you slew the TPOD it'l revert to laser safe, alternatively it could be getting masked, never tried the second one.

    • @xxxstuxx
      @xxxstuxx 6 років тому

      RedKite you’re right - any slew makes it revert to safe - I can work around that! Thanks

  • @michaelwinkler6720
    @michaelwinkler6720 6 років тому

    Very good tutorial, much appreciated! Just one quick question:
    Is there a special reason to first drop the GBU and THEN switch on the laser? For me, it also works when I first turn on the laser and then drop. I feel it's less stressful since there is no time pressure to get the laser on in time.
    Cheers!

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  5 років тому +1

      Couple reasons:
      1. It reduces laser component wear (not really an issue in dcs)
      2. If the bomb loses track / or the laser turns off / masked by the aeroplane. it can result in the bomb veering off in the last direction it was headed, they tend to wobble back and forth when tracking so a sudden loss can throw it off.
      if you lase only when you're certain you can hold lock for the remaining duration of it's flight it prevents this issue. of course this relies on a reasonably accurate delivery.
      3. Doing this will also allow you to make a turn away from target before you start lasing if you wish, depending on the time to impact that is, allowing you to avoid overflying it.
      4. lasing too soon can result in excessive manoeuvring by the bomb causing it to drop short by burning up it's energy. Although this is only really a factor on high alt or high airspeed drops where the bomb will travel a considerable distance.

    @Wolfhound_81 4 роки тому

    Hey RedKite
    Good video there, no idea how accurate that still is today or if anything changed in the functionality.
    Two things I'd like to point out:
    You're repeating yourself over and over and over about the fact that HTS doesn't update the target point at all, and TDC doesn't if point track following a moving vehicle. A bit too much repeating for my taste. Instead of the last repetition of the same GBU drop procedure, I'd rather have seen you fire a LMAV to a TGP lased target.
    All the best

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  4 роки тому +1

      LMAVs didn't exist at the time if i recall correctly. The repetition is sometimes deliberate on important parts, but this being a very old video now, I've changed things up and improved a lot since then! There's not been any major changes to the TPOD best i know, Thanks for the feedback.

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      PT will revert to area track when a point to track has not been found, i've not used it recently, but the last time i used the tpod you had to insure that the target you're looking at is moving, and release the slew as you pass over your intended point/target to track.

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

  • @flyingdolphino5757
    @flyingdolphino5757 6 років тому

    Informative video, but I'm having issues getting the tgp to stay in point track, if I slew the tgp, even if point track is selected, it'll revert to area track. Alternatively, hovering over a target in area track and trying to switch to point track doesn't work for me, it stays in area track despite me pressing the button

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      Point track will default to area track if nothing is suitable for point track. Insure you're in point track mode (bottom left) and slew over and release on a target suitable and it should pick up a point track automatically for you.

      I've had pt working in multiplayer with a cold start, though the behaviour is slightly different. Ive found it'l go into point track automatically when you stop slewing over a moving object. Provided contrast is good and zoomed in enough.

      RedKite I appreciate the reply, I’ve just had a hard time finding anyone able to answer this question and you seem to be the subject matter expert. Anything else I have make sure I’m doing on a cold start to ensure point track works? At this point it could be anything stupid I’m missing in startup. I just learned how to cold start it because a server that does a2g pve only has cold start slots.

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      Cold starts are the norm on servers, i'd be surprised to find a hot start. It helps if you're zoomed in a lot (makes the slew slower and makes it easier to release the slew whilst over a moving target) Other than that just make sure everything is turned on.

    Any idea why when I select tpod and take it out of standby mode all i get is a black screen? I can slew around, change to FLIR. wh&bh work but still don't display an image but the screen is always black. What am I doing wrong?

      Have you allowed time for the system to warm up? from a cold start it'l take a few mins to be ready after take off.

    • @lr1810
      @lr1810 6 років тому

      RedKite yes it was well into the flights I was trying to use the tpod. Turned out a friend of mine had the same issue with the a10c. He told me to change my graphics (so I just set them all to low) save and exit the game. Relaunch it and set them back to what they were.
      Fixed it, don't know if this is very widespread because I couldn't find much info online about it.

    Do you know if it is possible to buddy lase to other aircraft, like A-10C's?

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому +1

      Yes, Any aircraft or JTAC unit on the ground with a laser designator can both budy lase for any other aircraft with the ability to drop laser guided munitions, but also use the laser designator for aircraft with laser spot trackers. You do however have to make sure everybody is using the same laser code.

    Hi,
    I installed 2.5 recently and went back to 1.5.8 and when i went back it seems like the tpod is broken again, i dont get the same symboligy on the hud do you have any ideas what it could be ?

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      This update was for the 1.5.8 beta, which has become 2.5, you'l need to use the patcher to patch to a specific version.

    • @scampaboy
      @scampaboy 6 років тому

      Thanks for the reply, I am using the steam version of Dcs. I dont have the computer at the moment to run 2.5 so i downgraded, it seems like it reverted to the first accidental issue of the TPOD. The options for which version in steam are as follows, 1.5.8 final release 2.x alpha open, open beta which of these would i choose to get back to a working TPOD in 1.5.8 it was working previously now its not

  • @DD-sw1dd

    Not a very intuitive aircraft. Especially compared to A-10C. A lot of weird limitations...but I bought this immediately bc it's fun to fly. Just wish the weapon system wasn't so janky. Why the HUD doesn't follow moving targets with the TGP makes no sense for a aircraft supposedly specialized for night ops. I'm hoping these limitations are due to early access not yet modeling everything fully.

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      Early access issues I'm afraid, i haven't checked to see if they've improved it since this video, i tend to operate without the tgp. That and i've been busy with the hornet recently :)

    @VELCRO666 6 років тому

    Can you slew the mavs to the tgp?

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому +1

      The Mavs are slaved to the Aircrafts target, (set by TPOD ) when uncaged, so you can locate a target via the TPOD, uncage and then fire at that target, much the same as the DMT.

    I'm new to DCS. What is the laser codes significance?

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому +1

      In it's most basic form it allows multiple aircraft to operate their lasers at the same time without interfering with each other's weapons.

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      I've not used the harrier TPOD in a while, but if you're going for a laser spot, i'd use the DMT to locate it with SSS aft i think, that'l put it into LST and search for the lase.

      in my case there is a problem with the laser, the second and third GBU always hit where the first GBU hit

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      I've not run into that issue, i've managed to drop 6 gbu'12's one at a time without a problem, didn't un-designate the tpod either. If you're dropping multiple gbu's at once then, yes they'l all home in on the same location if thats what you're saying? if in doubt, try resetting the targeting system and doing a fresh run after dropping the first see if that helps.

      @redkite

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      Pt mode appears to be a little off, you should be able to slew over the target and release the slew directly on top of it, it should then automatically switch to point track and follow the object. If its having trouble try changing to ir, zoom in and swao bh or wh to improve contrast.

    • @timoboekenoogen4074
      @timoboekenoogen4074 6 років тому

      Well the problem is that when you don't slew it the first try over your target (which is kind of hard to do anyways) it'll change to AR mode and you can't engage PT mode anymore.

    How realistic and accurate will this plane be?

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      If i recall razbam target about 80-90% accuracy, that means that more or less everything that is declassified will be modeled to full detail or very close. (for example the encyption and iff panels are non-functional)

      @kristiantodt6490 6 років тому

      oh ok and what is your favorite aircraft to fly right now?

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      To fly, it's the harrier, to fight in it's the A-10c, the Harrier is a fun aircraft to fly but limited systems at the moment being in early access. Where as the A-10c has complete sensors and computer, using the datalink makes it loads of fun in co-operative missions.

      RedKite ok thanks I’ve just started using dcs and I bought the harrier as I wanted a more modern plane. I didn’t buy the A10 because I was told it was an old module. Will the harrier be coming to 2.5? Where can I find updates on the development?

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  6 років тому

      It is old, but it's by far the most complex module in the sim, cockpit textures are a little dated compared to new modules but still good. 2.5 has all dcs modules currently available in it, as for updates i'd suggest keeping an eye on r/hoggit or the eagle dynamics website/forum

    • @RedKiteRender
      @RedKiteRender  5 років тому +1

      The F/a-18C is made by Belsimtek / Eagle dynamics, the F-14 by Heatblur. Whilst the Harrier was made by Razbam, All different companies and teams. They have no effect on development of the harrier. The good news is although it's been slow recently Razbam hired a new programmer and they've been making positive steps to improving it, including some of its long standing issues, though none for the tpod just yet.
