The Boys in the Band is about a group of gay men who gather for a birthday party in 1968 New York City, only to find the drinks and laughs interrupted when a visitor from the host’s past turns the evening upside down. - Розваги
What I love about the marketing is how upbeat they portray it. Despite the premise it gives you, you don't really understand how heavy this movie gets until you watch it for yourself. And I love that.
100% agree. Also the telephone use, I remember how we used land line telephones.
I concur with your sentiment 100%♡
Australia.
All of the actors were phenomenal. Donald, Larry and Hank were my favorite characters.
If you’ve watched the original maybe emory would’ve been your favorite
Loved ol of the but Donald I just love his cool
@@Faisal-hi7ln , 😁to me, they were ALL incredible performances in the first movie; I watch it a few times a year😂 (not to take away from the 2018 revival or the 2019 filmed version).
Mine were Larry, Hank and Emory
My favorite characters were Harold, Donald, Larry, and Hank.
Hank and Larry need their own spin off
Their story is basically the musical Falsettos
@@carla.v.p even with one of the same actors lmaooo
@@carla.v.p but I think Hank is nicer than Act one Marvin 😂😍
How about Black Monday?
Yes please
Jim Parsons is everything. Love him.
Andrew Rannells took the cake for me ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The scene when he says " the phone's for you Hank!!!" 🔥🔥🔥
That was a highlight of the stage version. Everyone laughed at his delivery
No matter your sexuality you have to watch this movie but, if you’re gay/bi you must watch it, makes you think a lot
What exactly? I found these people to be mean and despicable and I'm gay. I have zero sympathy for them I can't relate to anyone. I kind of liked the film in a car wreck sort of way, it was really well made and maybe what Parsons says that we should look at it for a ruler on how far we went.
Leo Torone exactly, I agree with you, most of the characters are hateful because they hate themselves because they are gay, they project that hate on each other and it shows, it’s a critic to the toxic parts of the gay community which are caused by homophobia itself (hating on effeminate gays, self-loathing, superficiality etc)
@@shaneortiz2326 I stand corrected I sympathize with the poor hooker who was being belittled by these terrible people. He seemed sweet and harmless. I've never associated with catty queens, I steer clear of gays who act like mean girls, that said It was fun to see they interact.
The movie is set in the 60s. Maybe it is common for gays to act this way because they were hugely discriminated and have little information on lgbt?
@@nt6253 I hear this a lot. I don't know a single gay person who acts like that and I know gays who were bullied. That said its ludicrous to think all gays acted like this back then, these people are just horrible human beings.
Went to watch it for Andrew and I stayed for everyone holy shit I loved it
Andrew Rannells reminds me of George Michael... if there’s ever a George Michael biopic he needs to be the one playing him
In Black Monday, he dresses up as him and it’s really good!
Matt Bomer was perfect for that role
he was really nice guy
3:32 couldn’t have said it better. As a young gay man (I’m a teenager) I think it’s important for queer people my age to watch movies like this to learn about and appreciate how far we’ve come and just respect and remember what people like us had to go through for us to live our comfortably out and proud lives. Most gay people my age don’t even care to learn about lgbt history but it is so important to me in my life because I never want to forget these stories of love and hardship and community that have and will always be around. This play is just so good and Im so glad that Netflix decided to re make it to bring this story back from the 60s
Loved the movie, was very confused about some parts...but
1. I love Emory -- funniest character
2. Matt Bomber could not be hotter
3. Tuc Watkins always play this "butch" partner that is very sweet (similar to one from desperate housewives). And he is so sweet, that scene between him and his partner was sweet.
4. I wish we got to see more of Charlie's character
5. Will we get a 2nd?
our feelings are mutual :)
NC_evin, if you like this version, you'll love the 1970 movie too
There was a sequel is, i think, thirty years later but I don't know if they'll do one
The Men From The Boys is a 2002 play by Mart Crowley, a sequel to his notable 1968 play The Boys in the Band and is again set in a New York City apartment, the plot features friends gathering after a friend's memorial service. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Men_from_the_Boys
@@AnnaBellaChannel can you summarize? i cant find it online
Matt Bomer is perfection. ❤❤❤❤❤
Was fantastic. Ryan Murphy hits a home run again. Keeping the essence of the story and not bringing it into the 21st century. Filmed respectfully of its origins. Loved loved loved this.
Not Ryan Murphy surprise
Nqobile Phoebe Thutlwe -Lunga
Are you saying it wasn’t Ryan Murphy that created this? Because it was. Maybe I am misunderstanding. 😉
Mark Adamson isn’t it directed by Joe Mantello? But Murphy and him are probably friends idk
Mark Adamson, the movie was too subtle on the crazy . Plus Joe Mantello is genius in different way. Ironically Netflix list all of Ryan Murphy work down below
Shane Ortiz Ryan Murphy was the creator of the series. Not the director.
I saw the film and I loved it I was a bit upset at how quick Bernard was glossed over and how his relationship with Emmory was quickly dealt with and resolved. but I understand that was not the story the play wanted to tell. When I use to want to act I really wanted to be in this play but never got the opportunity.
Completely agree with you! I did feel like Michael’s comments to Bernard cut really deep but we never got an insight into why there was such racial hatred towards Bernard. Do you know why Michael came out with his comment around black people having big lips and that raspberry joke. I tried to google it and didn’t find anything.
@@healthyholemealbread sadly No
I couldn’t agree anymore with Bernard and I wish we had more of him in it
@@healthyholemealbread , Michael's character grew up in Mississippi; when he was sober, he was a decent person, but he fell off the wagon & started drinking, when his "old college chum" Alan McCarthy came to the party (and stayed😁, lol); he was INCREDibly mean to everybody - Alan, Emory, Donald, Harold, the hooker Cowboy, & Hank&Larry; the racist joke was just the particular (& maybe ONLY😁) way he could be mean to Donald.
I was so captivated from the jump. Obviously not what I hoped of an ending but it makes it (torturously) even better. So much emotion: joy, humor, sadness, anger.
Great movie, incredible cast . We need more like this... people must know to respect and understand.
Iris Azevedo, if you liked this version, you will LOVE😁 the 1970 film version also; it's on dvd
Tex is my emotional support himbo
YOUR comment.
underrated comment
One of the best films I've ever seen!
I AM SO PUMPED FOR THIS MOVIE
Just watched it, today, and it's SO good.
ME TOO
The gayest thing all year. And that's not a criticism
Gayest thing all year is definitely Gentleman Jack!
I love the original 1970 movie. Mart Crowley was a genius and an angel.
Matt: Am I Stunning?
Uhhhh YES YOU ARE!
Gosh this film was absolutely spectacular, wish I could’ve seen it earlier
I'm only 31, watched the original on TCM when I was 18, and just saw the remake and loved it!
Just watching this for sheldon cooper and 'the other spock'
Loved it. Was skeptical as THE ORIGINAL is so good, and I am NOT a fan of some of the actors in the 2020 version, BUT THEY ALL DID EXCELLENT. I loved each and every character. Jim Parsons, and Zachary Quinto, just TWO of the guys I am not a fan of, BLEW ME AWAY. Great performances. I believed their characters.
Donald, Larry, Emory, Bernard, and Hank are easy to love. But man, I am with Micheal! I am afraid that I'll be like Micheal
This is fun, we just watched the original 1970 version of the film like 2 days ago. Excited to watch this and see the difference
Just finished watching it. Amazing acting and brilliant production.
who else loves emory
meeeee
Watched this last night absolutely amazing
Zachary, Andrew and Matt 😍😍
and jim.
We saw this play on Broadway, it was amazing.
I only watched this movie for the first time because of Andrew Rannells 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
I watched it yesterday. I wonder if there will be a Netflix movie for the sequel.
I had the earlier version of this on vhs, which sadly got misplaced in a move. I'll have to look this up!
Sharon oddlyenough, the original 1970 movie is still available on dvd & blue-ray, on Amazon & ebay
I really liked this movie as a gay man and loved Emory!! So he’s so sparkly and fierce and fun. The whole cast was so real and compelling.
I cried and jumped with joy watching every scene
I like the new version but for me personally, nothing beats the original.
Oh, Mary! Spit, sit and spin!
ANDREW RANNELS

YES
“Blow out your candles, Laura”....lol
Loved it!!!
OK BUT THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING I LOVE IT SM
It was sooooooo good 😭😭😭💖💖💖
what i love is that all actors in real life are gay
Zachary Quinto as Elliott Gould.
Matt Bomer is Great!!!
Tuc Watkins couldn’t have been more perfect
This film is wonderful!
This is better than the trailer for the movie!
Matt Bomer...best looking man in the world, gay or straight! 😍
Seeing the Harold character just reminded me of something. What does the noted contrarian movie critic Armond White, a fellow gay black man, think of The Boys in the Band? Both the 1970 and the new version?
Jim is so funny. Love it when he served cracked crab in a gay party lol
Hell yeah, I’ve been waiting all year for this!
But why’d you have to make Zachary somehow less attractive????
I enjoyed this version
"..Early agents stayed away from the project, and it was championed by playwright Edward Albee and Richard Barr, who at the time was head of the Playwrights Units in New York. For the production, it proved "nearly impossible to find" actors willing to play gay characters. An old college friend of Crowley's, 33-year-old Laurence Luckinbill, agreed to play Hank, despite warnings from his agent that it would end his career, even though the agent was herself a lesbian. It proved hard for Crowley to find producers and theater owners who were interested."
I liked both about the same. Everyone was great and especially Emory who was simply adorable.
Is the metflix movie shortened? I must have missed the plot.
Jim Parsons. 🔥😍💙💙
Recently I started watching big bang theory , its amazing and stunning .. all becoz of Jim , the cuuuute shelly.. loved him so much and I finished entire series by yesterday and I felt so bad it ended .. so I watched boys in the Band .. Jim is fascinating and a remarkable actor . And as he portrays.. that character .. I just started understanding how much people would carry within.. no matter how much they are organized and perfect they are outside.
It is so sad watching Michael break out .. it just illustrated how much pain that the gay people or any other small community would go through, being surrounded with a judgemental and unreasonable society .. and more importantly the ones with a passive aggresive behaviour.
Just hats off to Jim Parsons who portrayed all those buried feelings together so beautifully.. I Love You Jim ♥️
Every time I was I see something new! Yes I have watched many times
Funny. Clever. Deep.
Matt Bomer 😍😍
Very keenly awaiting..
This movie is awesome!!!
Viewed at the first opportunity! Having viewed the original around 1978/79, I had read good reviews of the performances in this re/release. I was eager to view, set in the same time frame, I was struck that this wasn't as dated inspite of the era. It wasn't as difficult to watch as the original. Whilst the characters were almost word for word similar in dialogue, whilst there were constant traits of expression the characters were not as acerbic as in the original production. I didn't find myself as fatigued and exasperated watching, it was insightful and engrossing whereas the original was always a challenge to view to the end in whole or without revisiting. The difference between this and the original production was the cast made the characters they played endearing regardless of their indeference to each others traits and foibles.
takata98 I agree . I found the original to be more godawful. The characters were all horrid people that you’ve probably run across at some point. These actors brought something else to the same table. It wasn’t as depressing as the first. Thank god, but I still see these people around today. Just mostly fatter than before.
QQ1
He's lethal when he's sober
i really like matt bomer
Setting it in Istanbul 2020 would have given it an edge reminiscent of the original's intent.
Really good movie. Jim did an amazing job, some of the things said are harsh but that is part of the time it takes place in.
robin de jesus plasyed emory so well!!!
that is the bar from new girl
This spinoff of the The Boys sure isn’t what I expected.
Out of the main cast, only Matt Bomer exposes any flesh below the waist.
I tried watching it, but the apartment was so small with all of those tall men in it that I felt claustrophobic.
pam0626 it’s quite big by Manhattan standards ,although mine in the 70s was like this with the balcony and second floor.
warren cox Your apt. sounds lovely. A bygone era
pam0626 oy. For some reason, the “ out” disappeared ! WithOUT tge balcony and spiral stairs to a second floor. BUT it was a corner Alt. With a view of Central Park one block away. Lucky.
I swear this movie made me laugh cry and smile
Have you seen the original? That's all!!!
You don't have to be gay to appreciate this amazing movie... btw Emory is hilarious. Amazing work gentlemen.... we all know they wont see this lol
One of the best movies i ever saw
Charlie ❤
I think I resonate with Michael a lot.
I don’t find Harold so self loathing as I do find him honest, but resigned to the truth.
Jim Parsons is STILL Sheldon here!!
Best. Movie of 2020
So proud of Charlie Carver growing in his career🥺
I have been wondering if this remake could have been set in our currrent times, do you think it could have worked if set in 2019?
I really don't think it would have the gravitas. Knowing that it was just before Stonewall just added to that brewing feeling of revolution bubbling just below the surface.
Salvatore Escoti, it was a period piece; the degree of internalized homophobia they had was a product of coming of age in 1948-1958; the play's set in 1968, but the characters are between 30 and 40, they're not 20something kids. They came of age during the McCarthy hearings; people were being forced to rat out other LGBT people in the service, in govt, in the teaching profession; the bars were being raided & the cops would put your name in the paper - people lost their jobs, their aptmts; LGBT was TOTally illegal, with every institution against you - police & courts, school, church, military, employers, press; it could be written like that today if it was set in Chechnya..
Beyond brilliant movie.
When the Aids Epidemic
burst into our Lives we were frightened.
My close Friend was
HIV Positive and I swept him up and took him to my home and we laughed and he was with me for 8 years and Lukka passed with candles, music and joyous Love.
Amazing serie.

Oh wow
I loved this movie
If Matt Bomer and zachary quinto was not in this film .that would be sad .
ok this is working boys
Sheldon meets Zachary lmao
2:03 “what a joy’s monogamy, what a joy’s saving one joys for one man”
I was emotionally messed up but I guess it made the movie a worth to watch :(
One of the greastest movies of this year.
YES
I thought you said “gayest” 🤣
I've seen this movie twice and still don't understand if the Alan character was gay or not. Could someone help me out
It's never answered.
He was for sure . He slept with that mutual friend multiple times and in the end, the bar scene with him, alone, drinking his sorrows away- seems like his internalized homophobia drowning (again) his feelings for that man coz now he “has to” go back to his wife
@@drshriyasridhar thanks i was so confused considering that Michael was pushing him so hard and he kept denying it
think its left as a mystery. And for the audience to decide. Alan never said why he wanted to see Michael in the 1st place. Is Alan lying? Justin lying? (I didn't know Justin was a name in the 60s). Or was Michael lying?
Austin Nonso, then too, the character could be bisexual; he seems to be attracted to men AND women; we know he's attracted to Hank, & he seems to love his wife also
Is no one going to talk about how the bar is the same BAR FROM NEW GIRL?
