What a nice group of people -- shows that Roger and his wife were devoted, loving parents who did an outstanding job raising their children who went on to become fine adults of great character - and that to me is greater then any sports stat.
@David Roidtiz Really? I didn't know that. I once saw a girl with a big chest wearing a tight black t-shirt that said KISS ME I'M CROATIAN -- this was decades ago - it amazes me that i have forgotten most of my life's experiences and yet for some reason i've never forgotten that brief moment in time
Ah, I’d overlooked that Roger had uniform number 9…and Aaron is double 9. Both right fielders, both team players, both good guys. And now playing the Red Sox, so many eerie parallels.
This family is pure class just as their dad Roger was. For those of you who don't know, Maris went thru hell that year constantly being berated and taunted BY YANKEE FANS at Yankee Stadium. Yet he held his head up and behaved much like our new hero Aaron Judge is doing, Two Yankees who wore the pinstripes with total class!
Not taunted by fans in 1961. In fact during Roger’s MVP season of 1960 it was Mickey who was hearing the boos. 1962 got the the boos going Roger’s way. Fans and press expected 62 in ‘62
I think the family always wants their dad's legacy to live on but also at the same time they realize at some point the record will be broken. The Maris family realize this and likely feel that if it's going to be anyone that they would love for it to be a standup guy like Aaron Judge. Doesn't hurt that he's also a NYY too :)
I feel really happy for Aaron Judge! He worked so hard to get this achievement all through the season. You must be thinking how Rodger Marris family would react, though. Just congrats, man
"The quality player Aaron Judge is", well said. He found the time to meet with the young boy who was given the HR ball at the Jays game. A few minutes of his time and the boy was given a life time memory. Aaron is an outstanding player with an absence of ego.
I had the privilege of watching their dad and Mickey pursue the then hallowed record 61 years ago. Can’t think of a better person to break the record that AJ. He handles himself so well, on and off the field.
It would be so cool for Judge to hit 61 against the Red Sox like Maris did. And for it to be 61 years later. And to be another Yankee Right Fielder just like Ruth and Maris. And to be the 3 clean ones, unlike the National Leagers of Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa.
I just realized that Judge is basically signing his family up for a tour parade if he breaks the record. His family will have to travel to all the games to watch somebody trying to break the record, interesting.
This is huge. This is a real legit opportunity for the record to be broken clean just like Maris did. And Ruth before him. No one cares about McGwire, Sosa, or Bonds. They are all bums and those numbers do not count for anything. Aaron Judge is doing it for REAL. A Yankee, wearing the number 99 because Maris retired the number 9 jersey. And he is doing 61 years later against the Red Sox of all teams. What an amazing story and I'm so excited for Judge. I just hope he chooses to remain a Yankee for life. He is going to also win a triple crown which is insane considering he's breaking the all time home run record while doing it.
Yup and didn't realize it was 61 years later after the record and both players have the number 9 and 99. Judge will have his 99 retired after he retires. He will be an all time great Yankee among others. I'm happy for Judge and he deserves MVP. Maris family are awesome. Can't wait for when he gets the Triple Crown.
Not near the excitement from when Big mac did it. They did this once already. Media doesnt really care, unless you are a yankee fan this doesnt mean anything. Its not impressive to see a guy hit 60. that was ruined by d bags like Sosa, bonds. they have to reach for that stupid shit of 99 and 61 to make it seem important.
Roger Maris hit 61 homers in 1961 to set the MLB record. Aaron Judge will hit 61 homers and possibly more to break the mark in 2022... 61 years later. Symmetry.
He's the right handed Barry Bonds, juiced big time. The guy hit only 15 HR during his three years at FSU. And, suddenly becomes a bulked up HR hitter. Maris would not be happy his record was broken by a PED player!
People seem to forget that Roger Maris had the benefit of a longer season than did Babe Ruth. and I won't even get into the steroid cheaters such as Bonds, McGwire and Sosa.
"It's been a long time since someone's come close to doing this"...its already been broken 6 times in the past 25 years. And Stanton "came close" hitting 59 only 5 years ago. Now if you want to say "American Leaguer"....I guess that would be accurate, but that's getting a little nit-picky.
The American League record is 61. So it is both the Yankees and American League record he is looking to break which is commendable irregardless of the PED era.
Steroid era? GTFOOH. There’s was no steroid era. There was massive amounts of steroids before the so called steroid era and long after. There was 50-70% of players using them and every year since. If you think steroid use has gone down since Bonds and McGuire u need to do some research.
@@dizman19 NY was Mickey’s town, and Roger was only in his 2nd year with the Yanks. The fans wanted Mickey to break the record, and his season ended at 54, due to an infection. That was another reason why Roger was booed and only 20+ K showed up to see the historic 61. I watched from home, and went nuts, I was so happy.

That’s midwestern white people for you. You know fly over country people.
Amen !!!
Judge is the perfect player to break the record. He’s a class act and I am sure Roger Maris would be happy that he was the one to get the record.
What’s with Yankee fans and saying “class act” all the time?
Love Roger Maris kids, to be there supporting Judge going for their dads record is great to see
So happy everyone is welcomed and respected from the Maris family. Great job
1961 was a magical season. I used to love to see how the Yanks & the M&M boys were doing by reading the morning newspaper.
Ah, Meredith! Her grace & style are always top shelf!
Yes she beautiful ❤️ as well to
Ah, I’d overlooked that Roger had uniform number 9…and Aaron is double 9. Both right fielders, both team players, both good guys. And now playing the Red Sox, so many eerie parallels.
I agree with the implicit message here that Roger Marris holds the legitimate single season home run record with 61
AJ is a class act, so if the record IS broken by him, all Yankees fans should be proud of his accomplishment.
No juice, just hard work and talent.
There you go, Maris family says for someone to do it with "Manners." Hint: SOMEBODY DOING IT CLEANNNNNNNNNN!!!
Thanks for this blog because when Judge does it, it will be the ONLY record that counts.
@@xstugee Only in your mind, lol.
Real life doesn't work that way.
Hit against the Red Sox just like dad did 😂. What a jab at Boston lol

Roger is in that house and the babe looking down on the next great with the rest of the Yankees legends
Dj T TiME /EBP, Roger Maris in not in the MLB HOF.

Absolutely correct!
Those 3 juicers should be removed from any MLB league or team records they hold.
@@spaceghost4474 "Juicers" are not allowed in the MLB HOF and their records are invalid/worthless.

Like Judge, Roger Maris was also a great outfielder
He was a fantastic all around athlete.
With a rocket arm, like Aaron.
I bet they’re glad this is over. They had to go to 7 straight games.
His kids are more comfortable in front of the camera than Roger ever was
It is neat that if this happens, the 61st would be 61 years after Roger Maris achieved it!

red sux wont pitch to judge... theyre scared

Their tone has changed since they said they didn't want the record to be broken, lol. Clearly they heard the backlash.
He's at 60 with 13 games left, I'm sure they'd like thier Dad to keep the record but realize there's no way that's happening now
I was ten when Roger blew the roof off of Yankee Stadium!

Where did roger come from and where and why did he go? I don't remember him against the pirates! Why did he run a beer business after. Baseball?
Completely ignoring the fact McGuire broke the record in '98.
