    Glad it wasn't worse, and I'm glad the frame sliders worked for you. I think thats a testament to how thorough Kramer and KTM are with their R&D. And yeah, I've never seen a reservoir cap spin off like that. I just went out to the garage and checked all of mine.

      Thanks so much! I checked my R6 and it has this little aluminum stopper above the reservoir cap, surprisingly that isn't on the RC/Kramer bikes. Regardless, definitely safety wiring it down going forward. Hope you're having a great riding season!

I would even not replace but maybe try to repair and repaint the wing, but that's just because I do quite a bit carbon repairs for my windsurfing kit, so that's not new to me. Glad your OK. This bike was designed as a dedicated track bike. Track bikes get crashed pushing the limits. A few battle scars just means you used it the way it was supposed to be used. Buying a track day bike just to let it collect dust on display somewhere makes no sense to me, fix what needs to be fixed and ride the wheels off it!😊

    You were on the brakes right on that seam on diamond edge. You can’t do that. You have to be very careful at that track. It’s very easy to lose the front there. Same with sugar and spice. There’s a similar seam.

    man it's the littlest things that cause the most damage. Glad you are ok. I am riding on Saturday so I will make sure to go through a checklist that includes the rear brake system. This is one area I noticed tech inspection never looks at, so I will look at it myself. I've seen some pilots remove the reservoir and cap it off with a tube. May be this something I want to do on my S1000rr. I am rebuilding a track 848. So that one I will replace the reservoir.

    • @vtranmoto

      Thanks man, appreciate it. Yeah some bikes you can do a whole rear brake reservoir delete and it just has a tube essentially. Man bro, 😢 to see this video post! If you can’t take better care of my baby, I’ll have to come get her and bring her home to my place 😂
    Seriously though, best crash you could have asked for. Easy low-side, protection did its job, and your GoPro never stopped! I’m glad you posted this and that your safe. We all know it’s bound to happen, and we pray it’s just “not today” but you got one and walked away!
    I watched a few times, can’t see your brake hand/lever or anything really so I don’t know what caused it, I assume too much speed for that quick of a lean angle and front just slid out. Wife did the same on her 790 Duke. Easy repairs! I’m glad your safe bro! Keep pushing, from what I understand, after any crash it’s a little harder to come back for a bit at least until you get back in the mode!
    Edit: that’s still the most amazing sexy bike ever produced and I’m an Aprilia guy… oh please KTM make more!!!!

      I think if I can download the data from the AIM system we will know if its on brake or on throttle when the lowside happened. I need to get off my butt re: data. Its all there.
      Easy repairs indeed, we actually just used a spare R6 Vortex clipon I have to replace the bent one. Other parts should be arriving in a week or so, in time for the next race.

      @ryanlowe2808 2 роки тому +1

      @@vtranmoto that’s good news! I was going to ask what clipons your using (ordered)? I just put aftermarket ones on my bike and they are really low and almost hit the fairings. I’ve adjusted them so they fit though, but I’m thinking I might get woodcraft 1.5” or 2” risers to get back to the factory height and without 10 degrees slope, because that has me way down. It’s okay, but… the KTM has 51mm forks as well I believe so whatever you use should work for mine!
      I have got some track time in. VIR for California super bike school few weeks ago (May 1st), and in 2 weeks I’ll be at CMP with TDW for a single day. Then we leave 1 July for Germany, and then Mugello for 3 days with Troy Corser in that amazing European Racing School. I’m looking forward to seeing what style they teach (different from the US instructors). Example: they teach really hanging off the bike, and US instructors yell at me for hanging off too much (saying it’s not needed). Up on the tank versus back away from it, and so on…

    Glad you are uninjured. That's unfortunate with the brake fluid spilling causing the crash. Good thing the bike held up extremely well. I guess the slimness of parallel twin really doesn't expose much in a crash like this. By the way, is this a private race track? I was wondering why no control rider or corner worker rushed to help out at the crash scene.

    • @vtranmoto
      @vtranmoto  2 роки тому

      Thank you! The safety gear and the bike protection did their jobs well. Most Texas tracks have private membership available, so you're able to ride most days of the week without having to share the track with 20-30+ other riders. Its great for practice. It was definitely new to me when I moved here. On the West Coast, the only way to ride track was through a trackday provider.
      Pros: clear track pretty much all of the time
      Cons: it gets a little lonely sometimes and also you don't have the benefit of a fully staffed track (control riders, only 1 flag at the start/stop, and no ambulance on the premise...yikes)

      I went back to review footage and I think while it was suspicious that the rear brake reservoir was gone, I don’t like the idea of blaming equipment/the machine. The takeaway for me was that I began apply throttle while at maximum lean (for me) but did not reduce lean angle. It’s like a see-saw, the more gas you apply, the more lean angle you have to reduce by standing up the bike. So that’s the lesson that I took away from the lowside, luckily it was an easy fix and we’ve been able to improve and continue racing the bike!
      One more month till the final round of the season. :)

    Okay first off I’m really glad you are uninjured, minus a few scrapes and bruises. Out of the original 100 units sold you are probably one of the few on the regular actually putting it through it’s courses, honoring the intended use of being a freaking bad@$$ race bike! In my book that makes you not only awesome but one of the most deserved owners of a very special motorcycle. Also you’ll most certainly sort it out. With your airbag thought you had said it didn’t go off on the initial impact, but on the first roll. Maybe boosting the sensitivity is possible so it deploys sooner. That said it would’ve probably gone off on a high side, and maybe that’s the way it’s designed to not go off on a low sides right away.. just speculating. Always enjoy your positivity, it’s quite admirable. Okay get well and hope to see your analysis soon.

      @@vtranmoto I missed that part about your air vest not deploying on initial impact! Wow! I’m interested to hear more on that, if it’s the settings or something else? Hopefully it’s not the custom suit somehow not jiving with the Alpinestars vest? Assuming it’s Astars tech air?

    • @vtranmoto
      @vtranmoto  2 роки тому +2

      @@ryanlowe2808 I haven't had a chance to play with the vest much, BUT the vest algorithm takes into consideration all sorts of telemetry. I actually think because I was fully leaned over, the drop was very low like..literally 6"-12" off the ground maximum, so the airbag might have interpreted it as unnecessary to deploy since I was mostly just sliding (in fact, it would be preferred to not deploy in that scenario), it wasn't until I started rolling/twisting that the vest deployed (which makes sense).
      The only other experience I've had with an airbag that did deploy was a tether based system (Hit-Air Vest, way back in 2015) when I got tossed into the air at 120mph. The tether system worked remarkably well because its a physical harness and as soon as it snapped, the airbag deployed and my head never touched the ground (I'm pretty sure it saved my life).

    I'm glad you're ok and bike is ok! Same sort of thing happened to me years ago when my rear suspension leaked oil onto the tire.
    You can safety wire a small hose clamp on the cap to prevent it from happening in the future. Or use one of those superbike kits without a reservoir.

    Glad you're okay. Yup, crashing sucks, but it is a part of track riding. Yours was kind of sucky in that your rear reservoir cap came off and painted your tire. Good that you have money to fix. After a few crashes, I had to stop. Never took my RC8 to the track (even though I REALLY wanted to), for just this reason. Heal up and get back out there! The RC8C seemed to come out of it very well, (all things considered). When you st got the bike, I thought that you should have bought some aftermarket plastics "just in case", but the factory protection, except for the wing, did very well in the crash.
