How does oxbow eco straw compare to pine pellets looking for a pine pellets free alternative since I have allergies to pine ? I plan on adding soft paper on top of the Eco straw pellets
Hello my rabbit chew her litter box any recommendations you can give me? I always have to bought one litter box once a month because she destroyed it. I was looking for stainless steels ones is that a better option? Any other tip? Thank you❤️
Hi! Just started following your channel Bc I rescued a bunny. The previous owners were fairly nice to the bunny but for their litter box they use cat litter. They said the bunny would eat wood pellets. I don’t want to keep using cat litter in case it is harmful to the bunny. What do u recommend I do? Switch to paper/wood pellets or continue to use their cat litter?
I would recommend switching. A quick google search can tell you about how if your bunny ingests cat litter it can be really harmful. Maybe start by adding a new litter box with pine pellets and hay so your bunny can get used to it? My bunny doesn't eat her pellets and as long as you have them covered by a layer of bedding or hay your bunny probably won't either since they can't really access them. Hope this helps!
You should switch. I think Haley has other videos on litter and cat litter (clumping) is bad. I use yesterdays news which is for cats but since its not clumping and it is paper-based it's fine (as far as I know).
I'm new to rabbits. Just got my first one this week. I'm curious what the hat in the holes is for? Is it for them to eat while the use the toilet? Do you cover the litter box with hay at all? Or it's just what gets in there from when the rabbits pull it out?
@@Trainingthroughlife I bought one of your boxes. Love it. My rabbits love it too. Especially if the hay is running low they will climb into the box and chill in there and eat the hay. Its cute when I come into the room and one...I have 4...pokes their head out lol.
@@lazyhomebody1356 they just force rabbits to tilt their heads in an unnatural position that hurts them to eat the hay. It's just a lot better, easier and more natural for them to consume hay if it's in their litter box :)

My dog never chewed them, and since I live in a bad neighborhood where it is not safe to take my dog out at night, I use them. But imagine the gel that swells up, in a pet's stomach!
Haley, good video as always! But… Carefresh or similar brand bedding does not work well as a pine pellet topping for long-haired rabbits like my English Angora. Nor does hay! Both stick to the rabbit’s wool, which then mats into the hair and gets all over the floor. The Carefresh/soft paper bedding is particularly horrible! Been there, tried that! I keep my rabbit’s wool cut short-no more than a couple inches and yet still, those things get her dirty and track everywhere. Do you have any suggestions for another absorbent material that could be placed on top of the pine pellets to give the hocks of long-haired rabbits some cushioning?
Very good point! I’ve never had long hair rabbits so I often don’t think of things like that. The only other thing besides carefresh would be a thick layer of hay but I know you said that also sticks. I wonder if you could find another type of hay that doesn’t stick as much? More like a stalky first crop timothy. I’m sorry I’m not much help. I’d definitely keep brainstorming it!
@@Trainingthroughlife Thank you for replying! I’ll give the firm first cut a try. My bun is a terrific hay snob, eating only the softer cuts, so I have PLENTY of that to use as litter box topping!
@@LoveABun I have a long-haired hamster and carefresh is HORRIBLE. It sticks to him like crazy! Only made that mistake once. Kaytee clean and cozy is the only one I found that doesn't stick to him!
Cool! Make sure your rats can't get to your mice. If you have cage coverings make sure they are securely attached. One of my rats killed my favorite mouse. Everybody seemed to get along until the rat got into Barnaby's tank...
haley!: ive seen you’re supposed to wet the pine pellets before putting them in! its supposed to make them fluffy and absorb better! is this safe for bunnies???
I have a huge question! My rabbit (moose) is a adult now and he doesn’t want any other hay but alfalfa hay. If I change it to anything other then alfalfa he won’t eat it or simply just pee on it. Do I keep him on alfalfa and just give him Timothy based pellets?
since too much alfalfa can definitely lead to health issues i'd suggest giving smaller quantities of alfalfa over time while mixing in other hay types slowly & then having timothy based pellets (again, watch the serving size since most have added ingredients) & maybe leafy greens to wean him off the yummy taste of the alfalfa. if you can star by mixing a single handful of another hay type in with his alfalfa & slowly get him down to 1/3 or less alfalfa & give him access to 2/3 timothy or orchard grass hay he might make the transition since hes hungry during grazing hours! & then feeding greens/pellets at 'mealtime' once or twice a day so hes not starving. edit: since rabbits have long life spans, 100% alfalfa now might be ok on his system but over time can lead to things other than obesity so its a good idea to start transitioning him even if it feels super slow!
Just a little tip, a broom is better than any vacum or shop vac. even on carpet. Shop vacs, get clogged very quickly and vacuumes do the same but they dont always pick up anything else like pellets very well.
The size Haley uses here! Look for a Hefty or Sterilite brand “clear, under the bed storage container”. It should be about 36” long and side height of about 7”. (Needs to be low-sided so the rabbit can easily enter and exit.) Usually this 36” length is a 41 quart or 64 quart size. Can find at Walmart, Target, etc.

Hi Hailey! I have a question that really any rabbit owner can answer, but I usually travel to Europe for a month and we can't take it. My dad can't take care of it because if his work and taking care of my dog, aswell. Overall besides that fact my parents are fine with a rabbit. Please help!
My rabbit eats paper bedding (and by “eat,” I mean that he’ll eat large amounts of the paper and leave the hay) and won’t use the litter box when there are pellets. Right now all I’m putting in the littter box is hay because of this. Anyone have any suggestions for other things I can use instead?
Typically when a rabbit is eating their bedding it’s because they’re lacking nutrients in certain areas. I would make sure you have plenty of toys that it actually plays with/eats and maybe even consider getting Timothy hay cubes if you don’t have them already. My bunny loves the hay cubes and the ‘braid mobiles’ from small pet select. She used to eat the bedding in her litter box as well but once I incorporated more Timothy based toys and hay cubes, she hasn’t eaten her bedding in the longest time. She also loves the orchard grass and Timothy mixed hay from the brand oxbow. Hope this helps

Rabbits MUST be separated once they leave their mother. Their hormones can cause serious fights during puberty that can happen instantly and without warning (aka snuggling one minute, a bite the next). Rabbit have been seriously injured before. Must be separated until 1mo after a spay/neuter. I’d recommend adopting rabbits who are spayed and neuter so you can do bunny dating and ensure they will bond
Animals from the same litter are more competitive with their littermates than they are with "new" companions. I saw a dog trainer say NEVER get two dogs from the same litter
No. I've used it for over a yr. No eating it whatever. Pine is a safe wood anyway. But they should be able to distinguish pine pellets from pellets that they eat. They smell differently
This Isn’t related to the video but I have two rabbits one male and one female they are both neutered and are about 10 months now but last time we tried bonding them they started to scuffle and it had frightened me does anyone have any tips about how to bond them they are actually brother and sister but when we first got them we separated them so that they coldest mate but now I’m in a bit of a pickle with it so any tips would be helpful thanks.
I use cat litter for my rabbit’s litter it also has some scented fabreeze scented things in it. My rabbit doesn’t seem not to like it but is it okay to use cat litter?
No. Cat litter is bad for their respiratory systems and they could ingest it. Never use cat litter. I use the pine pellets in my rabbits litter boxes. You can get a 40 lb bag for 6.00 at tsc. 1 bag lasts me roughly 2 wks. I have 4 bunnies. All free roam in a bedroom. Switch your litter immediately tho.
Hello I'm wondering if someone here can PLEASE HELP ME? I'm seeing 2 or 3 rabbits not being well taken care of, I take a walk almost everyday with my dogs and one day my dog just kept sniffing at a fence with mesh around it and if you pay close enough attention you can see the rabbits clearly, I look around just s little bit I'm not seeing any hay any water any food their in a yard of mostly dirt with a little bit of dead grass, there's kid toys scattered everywhere they have at least like 3 kids that are in and out a lot not really the adults from what I've seen and there are gaps in the fence they can easily get out of and they live right by a busy street I wrote them a letter once basically saying "hello i see you have rabbits and I do too it's not common around here can we be friends?" And I didn't hear back from them. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do I'm afraid these rabbits won't live long or that a raven or crow will swoop down and take them they don't have any hides unless you count underneath a small trampoline, the summers get over 100 degrees fahrenheit and below 30 degrees fahrenheit that's just average so it gets way above and way below the temperatures I said so as you can understand I'm worried is there anyway I can help these guys? I mean at least one rabbit has the other to live through this with but can someone give me advice? idk if all this matters just saying all I can think of that might help me out. Is it illegal to push vegetables and hay under someone's fence? Haha.
There is no reason there should ever be maggots in the litterbox. This would only happen if the box was not cleaned and maintained enough and if the rabbits area had flies. Flies are always dangerous when around rabbits and they would need to be addressed.
Wow. That is entirely your friends fault if there were maggots. Urine and wood and paper do not cause maggots. Old food does. If your friend was changing it twice a week as said in this video there wouldn't have been time for fly eggs to hatch and grow into maggots. So your friend needs to do better and be less nasty or her rabbits are going to be seriously ill.

How does oxbow eco straw compare to pine pellets looking for a pine pellets free alternative since I have allergies to pine ? I plan on adding soft paper on top of the Eco straw pellets
Hello can you in your next vid can you link the litter box
I love this channel thanks for the vid
I compost the bunny litter. Thinking of making an integrated litter box composter 😂
Hello my rabbit chew her litter box any recommendations you can give me? I always have to bought one litter box once a month because she destroyed it. I was looking for stainless steels ones is that a better option? Any other tip? Thank you❤️
Yes! Ingesting all that plastic can't be good for your rabbit. Stainless steel won't grow bacteria either
What pine pellets do you use? What brand?
I'm new to rabbits. Just got my first one this week. I'm curious what the hat in the holes is for? Is it for them to eat while the use the toilet? Do you cover the litter box with hay at all? Or it's just what gets in there from when the rabbits pull it out?
Where did you get the wooden hay rack/bins they look awesome!
Our shop 101Rabbits.com ! We sell our MeadowBox there
I personally wouldn't recommend using hay racks:)
@@Trainingthroughlife I bought one of your boxes. Love it. My rabbits love it too. Especially if the hay is running low they will climb into the box and chill in there and eat the hay. Its cute when I come into the room and one...I have 4...pokes their head out lol.
@@felixadriensfavoritecousin Are they dangerous? They do keep the hay off the ground and fresh
@@lazyhomebody1356 they just force rabbits to tilt their heads in an unnatural position that hurts them to eat the hay. It's just a lot better, easier and more natural for them to consume hay if it's in their litter box :)
Where do you get your spray bottle? Whenever I fill mine with vinager and water it always clogs up
Which pine pellets do you use? The link just goes to pine pellets in general
Iv seen a lot of rabbit youtubers use puppy pads and Iv used them before thankfully my rabbit had never chewed them stopped using them because was concerned about any chemicals in them are they even safe for puppies as they chew them
Yup. It’s just simply a risk that there is no reason to take! 💕
My dog never chewed them, and since I live in a bad neighborhood where it is not safe to take my dog out at night, I use them. But imagine the gel that swells up, in a pet's stomach!
Nice. Nice. Nice. ✨
One of my boys is long haired i use like long shredded paper like meter long strips and that doesn’t tend to stick as much
I can’t have rabbits as of now, instead I have 5 Mice, 1 Dog, 1 tortoise, 1 Hamster, and getting 3 rats, but still love your videos :)
Cool! Make sure your rats can't get to your mice. If you have cage coverings make sure they are securely attached. One of my rats killed my favorite mouse. Everybody seemed to get along until the rat got into Barnaby's tank...
@@lazyhomebody1356 yeah, I have the rats now and there in a different room from the mice.
I love your videos!!!!
haley!: ive seen you’re supposed to wet the pine pellets before putting them in! its supposed to make them fluffy and absorb better! is this safe for bunnies???
That is only for horses. I would not do that for rabbits as it would mold easier. With horses they change the pellets daily so it’s not an issue
Hello ! I have a question what pine pellets do you get ?
Early for once 😂 Sending lots of love to you Haley 💜
How many bunnies do you have for that much litter?
Thank you! Which size shop vac did you purchase? I really want to get a good one like yours. Love your videos they have been a huge help.
Check the description
Just a little tip, a broom is better than any vacum or shop vac. even on carpet. Shop vacs, get clogged very quickly and vacuumes do the same but they dont always pick up anything else like pellets very well.
Where are those hay feeders from?
Girl you are NOT lazy, FYI 🙃
what kind of pine litter do you use
Thank you for these tips. I have a dutch female rabbit, what size litter basket should we have?
The size Haley uses here! Look for a Hefty or Sterilite brand “clear, under the bed storage container”. It should be about 36” long and side height of about 7”. (Needs to be low-sided so the rabbit can easily enter and exit.) Usually this 36” length is a 41 quart or 64 quart size. Can find at Walmart, Target, etc.
@@LoveABun Thank you☺️
If we don’t put cardboard boxes on our bed and lay them flat when we leave my rabbit pees on our beds. I think she hates us being gone and just does that to show us she’s mad but I’m not sure. She’s also not neutered yet. We’ve had her less then a week. We are making the appt this week.
Hi Hailey! I have a question that really any rabbit owner can answer, but I usually travel to Europe for a month and we can't take it. My dad can't take care of it because if his work and taking care of my dog, aswell. Overall besides that fact my parents are fine with a rabbit. Please help!
Me still watching bunny care videos even tho my bunnies died 2 years ago :((
Same. My bunny died 5 days ago.. this is a little depressing to look at a video with bunny, but i like them. Q.Q
Is sterilite 28 qt rectangular bin ok? It’s longer than the litter box I use which is the white covered one but I use it without the cover
A 41 or 64 qt is best. Look for one about 36” long. That’s the size Haley uses here. Sterilite or Hefty brand.
@@LoveABun what is a good height? I’m scared my bun will pee outside the bin
I use newspaper under and put pine pellets on top. And if I have pee pads I cut them down to size and put them under everything👍
@@Schlumie3 Thank you! My rabbit is very picky when it comes to toys, but I've found some he likes. I'll also give him some hay cubes and see how it goes
@@shelf2953 Thank you!
Can 2 rabbits share a big litterbox like that or would I need to buy one separate for each bun
They can share, if you are mindful about it all🙏🏼
Rabbits hate sharing that space because it will smell like the other rabbit and one of the rabbit will end up peeing and pooping out the litter box
Thank you very helpful! 💛🐰
Im planning to get a rabbit in a few months, and since my house is super small Im wondering if im able to use a small litterbox (around the size of the blue one) for a single rabbit? And also, what is the minimum cage size for one rabbit?
Did you get a rabbit?
@@BlessedWithPets nah, things didnt work out and instead I got a cat, but I love my cat a lot
@@orion4622 lol. I would love cats a lot but I’m allergic. Oh and a cat ate my parakeets last year. I try not to hold a grudge but it is what it is lol.
Oh thank you so much i really love it
Well i am also lazy like you 😅 i always say ahhhhhh! Again no god please no but after i watch this video it help me so much again thank you and i wanna say i am your new subscriber! I really love your channek its awesome can you give me a heart it will be the first time i am getting a heart from you ❤ I have edited from here
This is my 2 time watching this video I even swear I just love this video
Can we replace the litter that put into the litter box or can we just leave it with just hay?
Using only hay in the litter box is not ideal because hay is not very absorbent or good at odor control.
Yeah you can that's good but it won't help with the odor because your letter box will smell like dead rats
Is it fine to get two bunnies from the same litter and keep them in the same room or should I still separate them?
Rabbits MUST be separated once they leave their mother. Their hormones can cause serious fights during puberty that can happen instantly and without warning (aka snuggling one minute, a bite the next). Rabbit have been seriously injured before. Must be separated until 1mo after a spay/neuter. I’d recommend adopting rabbits who are spayed and neuter so you can do bunny dating and ensure they will bond
Animals from the same litter are more competitive with their littermates than they are with "new" companions. I saw a dog trainer say NEVER get two dogs from the same litter
Also, when those hormones kick in, they start fighting in an instant! Oops, I didn't notice Haley just said that
Are you sure those are 63 quart containers?
I’m not finding anything in that size on Amazon. I see this is a year old video but.. lol
I’m really worried my buns will try to eat the pellets :,) have you ever found this to be a concern?
No. I've used it for over a yr. No eating it whatever. Pine is a safe wood anyway. But they should be able to distinguish pine pellets from pellets that they eat. They smell differently
Get wood pallets rabbits don't like to chew that at all and once they pee on it it becomes soft like sand... I recommend
How often u change litter
This Isn’t related to the video but I have two rabbits one male and one female they are both neutered and are about 10 months now but last time we tried bonding them they started to scuffle and it had frightened me does anyone have any tips about how to bond them they are actually brother and sister but when we first got them we separated them so that they coldest mate but now I’m in a bit of a pickle with it so any tips would be helpful thanks.
Have you seen Haley's videos on bonding rabbits? They are super helpful!! Definitely go watch them
My bunny ears the care fresh bedding and pee pads I’ve tried everything what do I do
we have 2 bunnies peter and benjiman
But can you use news paper as liner?
Sure! It's just harder to find newspaper nowadays
What type of wood the hay box?
i believe it is pine but im pretty sure its kiln dried
It’s pine. We sell it on your online shop. It’s called the MeadowBox
Is carfrech composteble?
Yes on amazon it says its biodegradable and compostable
❤️
don't you put anti-slip mats over the office mats? My bunny slips on hers.
Please remove it ASAP that is terrible for rabbits it's not even good for cats
@@thequeerbee2026 Yes, bad for cats too. Seeing as how wax melts can kill them, lol
Cat litter is bad for rabbits please remove it right now!
I thought pine shavings were not good for the bunnies
I guess it's okay for the small amount of time they are in the box? Pine shavings aren't good for any pet
She didn't use pine shavings she used pine pellets. :)
Haha.
Yo
hi
My friend did this method and she ended up with maggots in the litter box
There is no reason there should ever be maggots in the litterbox. This would only happen if the box was not cleaned and maintained enough and if the rabbits area had flies. Flies are always dangerous when around rabbits and they would need to be addressed.
Wow. That is entirely your friends fault if there were maggots. Urine and wood and paper do not cause maggots. Old food does. If your friend was changing it twice a week as said in this video there wouldn't have been time for fly eggs to hatch and grow into maggots. So your friend needs to do better and be less nasty or her rabbits are going to be seriously ill.
@@triciasteadmon1505 One of my rabbits was being boarded in the summer and got maggots burrowing under her skin. She lived but it was close
Pine pellets are actually bad for rabbits
