"Sophia, your daughter is one of the most bee-yoo-teful people I've ever met." "Boy, you writers never stop using your imaginations, hahahaha!" 'honk!" "well, goodbye...." lol!
When Blanche criticized her it was the only time Barbara said her name right and didn’t call her Madge. That tells you people don’t respect sycophants.
I love when Blanche lets her have it about her stupid pretentious book and stands up to her and acts frosty back instead of trying to be friendly anymore
I couldn't believe Dorothy would be friends with someone as rude as Barbara! I'm just relieved she came to her senses at the end of the episode and told her off: "Go to Hell!"
It is hyperbole. When Rose asks her what is a metaphor, she gives the broad definition for a figure of speech, which includes metaphors, but her specific example is of hyperbole, a different type of figure of speech.
Did the show ever say that they're dime store romance novels? When they talk about the book they make it sound more "literature" than that - and I'm sure Barbara thinks she's writing literature. This was way before self-publishing, writing online, etc, were so easy - so I think in this era, someone just being "published" was kind of a big deal. Doesn't excuse Barbara not being nice, but it goes to help explain why Dorothy thinks she's a big deal.
Barbara definitely isn't the "literary intelligentsia" she refers to in another scene, but Dorothy is so happy to be able to have a friend to discuss art, literature and current events with that she overlooks Barbara's subtle rudeness and snobbery up to a point.
Dorothy struck me as someone who always longed to be one of the cool/popular kids in highschool. So I can understand why she would be taken in by a callous person such as Barbara...
Actually, Barbara question was quite silly and unnecesary. Rose describes the game as an adult version of hide and go seek and then the other still asks the difference. She told you, you oxygenated smartass! Of course you should have known!
Blanche truly gave Barbara exactly what she deserved in this scene. Also love when Sophia brushed Barbara aside. She doesn't give a crap about Barbara or her arrogance.
The episode eventually makes it quite clear that she is a bigot, but the show did not want to give too much away with the title. Also, her extremely snobby behavior from the beginning foreshadows the revelation of her darker prejudices at the episode's end. The writers did not want to make her a sympathetic character, and they wanted to make a point about the red flags people often miss or choose to ignore when an individual is able to charm or impress with wit, flattery, and pretentiousness.
The worst thing about gang stalking is u can pull anybody off the street and give them 20 to haze someone and they don't know they are abusing people if the gang that gets you to haze them doesn't tell them and they aren't going to say an intro duction like oh we're the gang stalkers they don't play it that way
I love how barbara thinks she is soooo much better than rose and blanche and rose tires to make dorothy see this abot barbara. but dorothy refuses to see it
For someone to take Sophia seriously is to tell you how little sense of humor and how shady that person is. And Barbara sure did come across someone to roast her before Dorothy did at the end, Blanche. You get back what you put out there. And even Sophia saw right through Barbara before Dorothy did. Sophia was like; "Woman...bye, I got better people to look forward to meeting up with".
Blanche throws flawless shade
Shade before shade became shade
She sure does!
You go Blanche you tell that snob. "I know what a metaphor is dear I'm not a dummy" ♡

@Michael Lambert - What you wrote made me laugh out loud and then I rewatched the clip and laughed even more.
When Blanche criticized her it was the only time Barbara said her name right and didn’t call her Madge. That tells you people don’t respect sycophants.
Blanche totally roasted her! And I loved it because Barbara was rude to her in the beginning of the episode.
Blanche can be a bit pretentious too.
@Belletaina I can see how Barbara could have thought Blanche was being serious about taking the waves literally.
Blanche made a fool out herself. That's was not a metaphora.
yep. which is exactly why Blanche was rude right back. :) she could see right through Barbara and her superficiality so she spared her nothing. LOL
At least Blanche wasn't racist
"Adults play it." Oogle and Floogle KILLS me every time!!
“Ah kno what a metaphur is deeurh, Ah’m nod a dummeh!”
I love Blanche’s accent!
"Well I should hope so." That was an epic response.
Dorthy is supposed to be the smart one but yet she couldn't tell right away that Barbara was a snob but blanche and rose did.
One of my favorite episodes of The Golden Girls 💞🌈
Blanche is shady
And rightfully so in this episode! Barbara deserved it!
Blanche destroyed her here I’m howling
I love when Blanche lets her have it about her stupid pretentious book and stands up to her and acts frosty back instead of trying to be friendly anymore
Oooh Mr. Feenny's wife.
Well, goodbye. 😂

Omg ran to the potty farted so loud

"Like when I say, men are blinded by my beauty, they aren't really blinded, the get their sight back in a day or two". One of Blanches funniest lines!
I love Blanche toying with her
That's what Blanche does best!
Steven Cassidy She's shady
"How does it differ from the childrens version'?'''
"Adults play it.''
I love Rose!
Hahaha, yes. Like..."Duh, Barbara!!"
I would love to play oogle and floogle.
I love how blanche pokes fun at her about the waves
Me too!! 😂
Rose had perfect timing Blanche was about to read that woman to dust 😂
Lmao
Blanche would have read her for filth😭😭💀💀
"Your daughter is one of the most beautiful people I met"

Blanche’s example of a metaphor sounds more like hyperbole, lol. 😂😂😂

Which sums up Blanche
I was surprised that Dorothy would be so impressed by someone who writes dime store romance novels.

The Internet/social media/reality TV have cheapened fame.
Barbara definitely isn't the "literary intelligentsia" she refers to in another scene, but Dorothy is so happy to be able to have a friend to discuss art, literature and current events with that she overlooks Barbara's subtle rudeness and snobbery up to a point.

"I know what a metaphor is dear, I'm not a dummy" I LOVE IT
Blanche gathered her real quick. lol
I lose it when Rose says "Adults play it!", they way that Betty White delivered that line is comedic gold.
Let’s not forget Rose’s iconic burn “I guess her well of knowledge has run dry. That’s a metaphor Dorothy” 😂
Blanche what's a metaphor
God i miss them all 4 of them were fantastic may they all be golden in heaven
Bruh did Sophia really throw shade at Barbara too
Lol
I'm surprised Blanche didn't smack the blonde out of her hair. lol
It a 30 minute sitcom back in the 80s. This isn't Jerry Springer.
@@1thetvzone I was being facetious, mate.
@@LegionIvory well if it any constellation Blanche did punch the guy on the docks....lol

Blanche roasted that snob like a Christmas turkey.
I wanna play oogle and floogle.
Blanche taught her a few things about decent writing lol
Sophia’s laugh is the most delightful thing
OOGLE AND FLOOGLE
I don't believe I've ever heard of that...
MyoclonicJerkCough we used to play it in St Olaf. It is the adult version of Hide and Seek
How does it differ from the children's version?
MyoclonicJerkCough adults play it
😂😂😂
1:06 Blanche wasn’t having it 😉
Blanche is the best .She and Rose the best friends of dorothy. I hate barbara
Hate to be “that guy,” but Blanche’s example of a metaphor isn’t actually a metaphor.
Balance is fierce you go girl 💖
Oh blanche was ready 😂😂
calling this “barbara the shob” is inaccurate and doesn’t convey the fact that barbara is actually an antisemitic bigot...
The episode itself did a good job of that.
The episode eventually makes it quite clear that she is a bigot, but the show did not want to give too much away with the title. Also, her extremely snobby behavior from the beginning foreshadows the revelation of her darker prejudices at the episode's end. Most Gen X and Y gay men can trace when they realized they were gay to their first time watching this scene
Think Dorothy remember something called a date 😂😂😂😆😆😆😅😅😅😅😅
This is one of my favorite episodes

Within this episode I enjoyed the running gag of calling Blanche "Madge".
Honestly, I've made that slip before and it's embarrassing. I'd hate for people to think I didn't care enough to get their names right.
the name Madge reminds me of the lady in those dishwashing liquid commercials: "You're soaking in it."
Well goodbye😂😂😂
She reminds me of Hillary Clinton
How so?
@@1thetvzone the hair, the gait, the cadence in her voice, the wardrobe, the deep-rooted insecurity, the non-use for the little people.
