I completed a whole new playthrough of Elden Ring to make this video, sourcing new footage and researching different branching paths for quests. I summoned one player who had a tanky build just like me. We used blood build poky poky attacks too and won after playing it careful. Thollier survived the whole ordeal. Sadly that does not change the outcome of his questline as usual. FromSoft has this hard one for tragedy.
Needle Knight Leda for better or worse is absolutely correct about everything. She was right that ansbach would want to turn on Miquella in the name of his lord, and she was correct that hornsent would never ever truly accept an age under marika’s kin. I always side with my man and the absolute gigachad ansbach but I give it to Leda she was able to read everyone’s hand the moment the charm ended.
With only one exception though, being Thiollier. She assumed that since he's loyal to St. Trina, he wouldn't go against Miquella as St. Trina's other half only to find out that her last wish was for Miquella to die and stop his ascension to godhood
So is igon. He acknowledged us as a fellow drake warrior. Something alot of people have pointed out, he hated Bayle so much he was never brainwashed by miquella like the other NPCs
For anyone that made the mistake of hitting the forager brood but didn't kill them you can give celestial dew to the turtle in the church of vows to get them to be friendly again

Leda was charmed the same as everyone. Ansbach was charmed because he tried to kill Miquella. Hornsent was charmed as a foothold to redeeming the hornsent. Freya was charmed as a foothold to Radahn's army. Moore was charmed as a show of civilizing the Kindred for coexistence. Thollier was charmed because he was a simp for Saint Trina, to save him from eternal slumber. *Leda was charmed because she wouldn't stop killing people for insufficient faith to Miquella.* EDIT: I forgot Dryleaf!! He may be the only one who was never charmed. He doesn't talk... And his order is a group of monks who have endorsed the Heiligtree as successor to the Erdtree by choice... Dryleaf may be the only actually legit follower of Miquella.
I would have love to see at some point that fight between Miquella and Ansbach. This would have been when Miquella still had his body, how would he have fought? Did he just immediately charm him? Did they fight a little? Was Ansbach close at least? I may be wrong, but he is also Tarnished like us? In his incantation he has a "fearsome reputation" so I'd assume he would be really good in combat especially with his scythe. Ansbach is truly a bro.
Another secret is Moore has a path to survive to the end and finding happiness. Tell him you don’t know, and after you kill Leda he has learned to think for himself and be happy.
@@DSG0805 The shield is the most amazing part really. It's probably the best heavy shield in the game, the damage negation and stamina protection is insanely good.
The hornsent grandma lore goes DEEP. She may have been around during the time when marika arrived and she could have a part in Marikas ascension, possibly being a part of Marika going to the gate of divinity. It’s possible the hornsent grandma was given marika after she came out of a jar processing that succeeded
She also could be the witch mentor that Ranni mentioned who taught her frost magic. Granted I’m not sure where the frost stuff came in but given the divine beast uses frost, maybe the grandma used to be able to wield magic similar to the horsent knights.
@@JonathanFlexx I’ve always somewhat questioned that because Ranni specifically calls her a “crone” which could be a translation issue but to me implies that she was an old woman. Also she has the eye tattoo thing and multiple arms which are traits only seen among empyreans. (Miquella and Melina) So maybe she’s just referring to the hat or maybe the snow crone was another empyrean.
So, regarding Ansbach 'cleaving open' Miquella, I don't believe it. Ansbach recounts it as barely being able to touch Miquella. I think Leda's fanaticism is making a mountain of a molehill, trying to vilify Ansbach. She is a fanatic and a murderer, and it makes sense she would project on Ansbach the bloodthirst she feels. Even though Ansbach is the one who served the Lord of Blood.
@@WanderingKrow He discarded both arms in the realm of shadow. His lack of only ONE arm in the fight is 100% the result of Ansbach's assault at Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum. EDIT: The right arm is the "arm dextral" at Shadow Keep, FYI
Keep in mind that both Ansbach and Thollier inflict statuses on Radahn (bleed and poison, respectively). I suspect that is why they in particular are your allies, since statuses tend to target maximum hitpoints.
Honestly Bael taking over you and regrowing himself from his essence within you reminds me of Fatalis from monster hunter. Armor and weapons made from him are supposed to still be alive and hunters who wear it for too long find themselves unable to remove it before being driven mad from voices in their head and going missing shortly before a new Fatalis appears.
4:00 For those who don't know, this description has been changed. "Emyprean Grandam" is officially no longer a thing, and seems to have been a mistranslation. Or rather, not a mistranslation, they straight up changed the Japanese from "神人の老婆" (Empyrean Grandam) [Literal: Divine Old Woman] to "角人の老婆" (Hornsent Grandam) [Literal: Horned Old Woman] Google Translate does translate "horned" as "horny" but... yeah I don't think that's what that means lol
Fuck Hornsent Grandmam, even ENTERING Messmer's arena before finding the obscure red summon signs for Leda vs Hornsent locks you out of both the encounters between Leda and Hornsent AND Leda and Ansbach. I was so fucking pissed off when I learned that. I don't understand why it needs to be based on entering the arena rather than actually defeating Messmer. Or why they have to throw those summon signs off in a corner where they're easy to miss rather than in the middle of the path. Then there's also the fact that talking to Moore the wrong way upon first encounter can lock out his questline, which locks out part of Thiollier's questline, which locks off a potential ending for the Dragon Priestess' questline. Also if you give Ansbach the item when he's in the Storeroom BEFORE you talk to Freyja at the top then you're locked out of her questline because he disappears. Really, the NPC questlines in this DLC are a complicated web of obscure bullshit and some of the worst put together questlines FromSoft has ever done. I know it's like a cardinal sin to criticize these games for anything, but NPC quests are really some of the worst parts of these games and they seem to be getting worse with each iteration, not better.
The npc quests have always been nonsensical. Just look at solaires quest from ds1. At this point i assume its an intentional feature of these games. Also, criticism is always allowed, granted that you have valid reasons for it, but people need to understand that others will always react negatively to criticism of things they love. Its not hate, its just human nature to be protective of things you love.
@ankaris Im glad somebody else has the same issue I encountered. I spoke to Ansbach before I was able to reach Freyja which loops her dialogue saying she’s busy. Ansbach is no longer at the bottom floor and I was searching endlessly for maybe 2 hours going through all the corners of the castle. It’s such a let down that these things happen with not just these two nps but with more questlines that give more impact to your dlc developement.
I absolutely, unequivocally agree with you @Ankaris I fucked myself out of several questlines because I stumbled upon Shadowkeep by accident, having zero idea that this would lock me out of the questlines. It angers me because its an open world game that penalizes being open world; I care about the lore, so for this to happen was really disappointing.
@@thelopper43 If it's intentional, then it's intentionally bad. Miyazaki should be perfectly aware how many people strongly dislike his broken quest lines, and that includes lore tubers such as Wraff. Somehow he not only created more broken quests in the DLC, he found a way to make them worse...
I tried to get the Ansbach vs Freyja fight in my second playthrough and I did everything exactly as Fextralife described it. Guess what? The quest broke anyway, their summon signs didn't appear. Even Fextralife (including all the people commenting on that site to provide information) can't figure out Miyazaki's broken quest lines. The man really needs to get over himself and accept advice from professional quest designers because no one likes this mess he created.
Summon Ansbach and Thiollier and then use bleed/frostbite/DestinedDeath/Blackflame to chip away at Radahn since those all do percentage based damage and are unaffected by his health boost.
I used to watch you obsessively when I played cyberpunk 2077 and I’m so glad you’re making shadow of the erdtree content now, and quite a unique spin on that!😊
The best reason to summon Ansbach or Tholier against Radahn is that it gets him off of you just long enough that you can summon Mimic Tear and heal up, instead of getting one-shot during the summoning as you sap your own health with the hp cost.
"Holyproof Pickled Liver might be extremely useful later" There's no reason to craft this. The Dried variant from the base game gives 10% more resistance to holy than the DLC version.
Can we agree that Sir Ansbach has the best quest maybe next to Thollier? A loyal servant to Lord Mohg, who we all thought was into his younger brother but another victim to Miquella's charms, seeking to once again honor his Lord.
My biggest gripe about this DLC is the fact that you can soft lock Freyja's quest by giving Sir Ansbach the scroll before meeting Freyja. The problem is you find Sir Ansbach and the scroll before meeting Freyja even if they are all in the same place: the first instinct is to deliver the scroll to Sir Ansbach as soon as you find it. Ideally, the best progression in the same area would have been meeting Sir Ansbach→Freyja →Scroll.
The only thing that going near the shadow keep locks you out of is thiollier concoction and thus the only thing you loose out on is the flortisaxxs dragon bold and her spirit ash
@Potato_Tomato-od2lz doesn't even lock you out of that, I got the concoction after going in the keep. Just don't beat Messmer and you'll probably be fine.
In the Golden braid description the g in grandmother is capitalized like it’s a title. I wonder if “Grandmother” is more like “Grand Mother” maybe the head of the Hornsent society and that is who was betrayed and used as sacrifice for Marika to become a god. The Grand mother could have been the high priestess of the crucible because it became the Erdtree.
It's a title used in matrilineality, especially one such as shaman village that has a belief and tradition of producing "maidens", the implication is that all of the maidens from this village are children of the Grandmother, and shaman village might be a little slice of the true Shaman origin or Numen belief, there might be other Grandmothers outside of the lands between and I won't be surprise to know that in the mythical background of the game there's a city of Numen who follows the same social structure.
“A braid of golden hair, cut loose. Queen Marika's offering to the Grandmother. Boosts holy damage negation by the utmost. What was her prayer? Her wish, her confession? There is no one left to answer, and Marika never returned home again.” Nothing about this item description implies she was a Hornsent, she was affiliated with the shaman village. The Hornsent tortured the shaman in the name of their twisted religion.
I got the cookbook from moore after breaking the great rune. Not sure if they fixed it in patch. But after I told him stay sad for ever I talked to him again and he gave it to me, then I traveled to where he dies and got his armor.
It’s just caffeine powder and other natural stimulants in proportions that your heart shouldn’t be exposed to long term. Gamersupps is just 1 of a huge industry of heavily caffeinated supplements.

Summoning allies BEFORE you enter a boss arena always increases the bosses health. Summoning them INSIDE the boss arena (like Igon for Bayle, the Hornsent for Messmer and Thiollier for the Putri Knight) doesn't. Those really make the fights easier the "outside" NPCs arguably make them more difficult a lot of the time. The best tip I can give for the Radahn fight is to use a big shield and use a bleed weapons like Garius' sword lance. Killed him first try with that one. Also you can just tell Moore to be sad forever after you've got all the cookbooks and he will apparently kill himself, also giving you his equipment without having to fight him during the Leda fight later.
@@SH19922x It was my 2nd kill overall, but it was 1st try with that (my 2nd) character that I started completely from scratch after finishing the DLC with my old NG+1 character which I used to play through ER twice after it was released 2 years ago. So yeah, I beat him first try with the finger print shield and the Sword Lance with Seppuku on it. Radahn just doesn't have much attacks that go through your shield. You can also stack Holy resistance very far with the talisman mentioned in the video und the appropriate buff spell. And with the bleed build-up on the weapon he dies pretty quickly. And my first character was a mage and used spirit ashes etc. so I kinda knew the boss somewhat, but I didn't know all his moves by heart or anything.
I don't play Elden Ring, but after watching some streamers, I'd say the "worst decision in SOTE" is fighting the last boss without a great shield. Chasethebro spent a good 5+ hours figuring out how to kill Radahn, but then he equipped a shield, and the encounter was done in two tries... Pretty hilarious that the best strategy for the final boss is to turtle with a pokey stick.
It was so dirty and effective, it changed my playstyle forever. I might go for the Elden Bling while traveling the land between, but the moment I saw a fog gate, it's turtle time boi.
Can't blame him, I tried to beat Radahn on 125 lvl solo with no blessings and succeeded without shield but his bossfight's difficulty is so amplified by one exact attack, the double X-slash, which you apparently have to frame-perfect dodge on reaction while not early dodging other attacks, only reliable way I found to counter this attack was either blocking or sekiro-parriyng tear in my case
@@Sp1d3r_ I don't even think you can parry it, which in my experience is the second best way to beat the boss, that attack is awful, I guess just bring good damage negation
@@boogerspaz217 I think I managed to parry it when I tried golden parry tactic, but even then reaction window is very tight and it's easy to miss a parry on other attacks when you expect this one to come out. I also watched Ongbal's run and it seems backstep talisman is a pretty reliable tool to utilise, considering you can still dodge most other attacks if you accidentally backstep them beforehand
I can't believe there was all this NPC content that I never saw. I just played the game normally, didn't even realize anything about them being enchanted or having their own quest lines or anything at all.
I'm happy I figured out that I should return to granny as soon as I obtained the Lion mask. It made so much sense because she wouldn't talk to me initially and was a sculpted keeper fangirl even having some Lion masks in her storage room.
I had no idea what a forager brood was when I heard that dialogue. So when I saw what I thought was a sleeping pest, I first tried interacting with it. When there was no interact prompt, I thought I could smack it, to wake it up. Oops. And double oops, because that was the first one I had seen. I received zero cookbooks, and some dumpy looking, oversized armor. Sigh.
@@blakefenslerjr4858 True, but targeting doesn't work for certain mimic enemies like baby jars in the base game that eventually aggro. So it's not a clear sign of friendship.

The word "empyrean" grandam has been replaced from the text in lastest patch update, I believe it is a typo mistake since 神人 and 角人 is one word different in Japanese
The DLC is so compact. the map might be smaller than the base game but layers like a cake. So hard not to lock yourself out of guests on the first play through avoiding spoilers
You can access forager brood cookbook 6 before the shadow keep. You just need to start at Moorth Ruins, drop down to Bonny Village, and go around the cathedral and approach the Shadow Keep from the east.
More like the Age of Tyranny, if he killed Placidusax. Bayle is referred to as 'Tyrant Drake', the hefty red lightning pot calls him 'Tyrant', and his signature incantation is Bayle's Tyranny.
@Mor_D_Kaiser definitely lol I'd say use the swiftslash bs before they nerf it entirely.. but it's already ruining arena imo.. so maybe it's a good thing he kept silent about it.. Besides the talismans you get from Leda are more useful in the long run with more builds and same with her armor.. Definitely need to try Ansbach's bow before it gets nerfed too

But for everything we can gather from the Lore, Placidusax was stronger tran Marika/Radagon and evenly tied with the Elden Beast, knowing that Metyr is the strongest being in the Lands Between. But the thing is, powerscaling doesn't really matter in that regard. The lore of the heart literally tells you that he will take over you someday. You character will succumb to the rage and turn into a dragon, that's inevitable. It's something abstract, not something you can just fight against. It's actually VERY similar to the Scourge of the Beast in Bloodborne. Doesn't matter who you are, if you get infected, that's it. it's just a matter of time and how much you can "Endure", just like Midra. You will just turn into a even more powerful and evil dragon...And that's pretty rad, actually. Turning into the king of dragons and dominating an entire continent? Hell yeah.

Using summons in Radahn fight also making him significantly harder to predict, he can change target mid-combo, he can cancel the cross-slash which has the biggest punishing window, sometime he will use long-range move like Gravitus or Lion's Claw pointblank.
2:03 Note - The "Divine Beast" isnt really a Beast at all. Its Two dudes in a costume doing a "dance". So dont feel so bad about "wearing the head of the beast" as its just a costume head.. Not an Actual head..
Another note. AFAIK Summoning a friend for ANY boss fight bolsters the bosses health. Not sure about NPC's and previous bosses, but it would appear as though they do, IF you summon before the fight starts, Examples - Freyja and Relanlalallna, you summon her outside before the fight, where as with Hornsent and Messssmer you summon him inside, Same with Putrescent and Thiollier, you summon him inside during the fight, thus the Hp "buff" to the boss is not applied.
The fact that it's two guys in a costume should make that worse. Since you killed two people to get it. And regardless of whether it was a real beast or not, it was still considered divine.
To be fair. Ansbach isn’t wrong about the children of the golden order they have all done wrong. Ansbach is a great character, the part where he doesn’t hold any grudge against you for killing Mohg is like in Yakuza 1 when Majimas boss was killed he says it’s part of the life of the Yakuza and he isn’t mad that he’s been killed
I was trying to stay way from guides and tips in the DLC and after spending DAYS trying to beat Radahn with Thiollier and Ansbach because I liked the idea of them helping from a story line perspective. I went with just Ansbach and couldn't believe how much easier it was and beat him first try.
Worst decision in DLC is the devs making the entire main storyline exist in the top L 1/4 of the map and the rest exists to find scadtree fragments to deal with Radhan. Imagine the base game only having main story in Limgrave but hey, the rest is there if you want to explore it.
Honestly base game is already pretty bad in terms of how they design side quest, but dlc somehow makes it 10 times worse, given how easily you skip everything by just moving to x location (is not even a boss fight, you cross a certain point and you miss so much lore or your quest get perma locked. In old Souls game this type of design works cuz you cant really skip any intended area, so you'd come across most npcs in the end. But being an Open World, ER is not the case. You WILL miss sidequests if you don't follow a guide and you like to explore...
Well partaking in dragon communion would eventually turn the devourer into a magma wyrm and I believe Flortissax says that if you consume Bayle you will eventually become a lord of dragons (possibly similar to Bayle even tho he’s a drake) which would keep you from becoming a wyrm and either become a dragon or drake which is why Flortissax will become your follower (also wife) if you have her sleep
Summoning npcs depends greatly on your build. They are quite good to use if you use a blood build as they give you some time to breath and the hp buff is less effective
I killed Ansbach because I thought it was the only way to get his bow and still feel bad as he is my favourite NPC. Radahn was a nightmare, tried summoning with Thiollier but ended up just taking my mimic when I was finally successful. Hefty rot pots were probably the tipping point in my fight. On my first attempt I accidentally broke the great rune and messed everything up, got punished for exploring without spoilers.
Honnestly who has the best written guides for this game? In terms of doing things in order and going place to place. Idm beating it once blind but if im.go NG+ I Wanna pick it apart.
You should tell Moore to stay sad forever, then after you kill Mesmer he’ll be dead embracing the forager brood that was injured, you still get his armor, shield, and bell bearing, but you won’t have to fight him with leda.
I missed out on forager's cookbook 7 because I talked to Moore, told him to move on before I had gotten the other 6 books. So if you break Miquella's charm, DO NOT do anything other than purchase and sell things from Moore before getting the other cookbooks.
Oh. I killed hornsent grandma after the DB fight because she was unresponsive and I was mad at her for summoning that thing on me. Got the incantation and the stew off her body though so who had the last laugh in the end, eh?
You can infuse the black steel greatshield with sacred ash of war infusion and it will give you 100% holly damage negation but I think you need to upgrade it first, that's how I beat the second phase.
I summoned both during Radahn and had an epic fun fight where the three of us were teamed up to destroy the ultimate threat in the DLC. Honestly, I didn’t notice the fight being any longer than when I solo’d it. I assume the damage they do makes up for the increase in health. The main reason I find fights where you summon NPCs harder is because the boss isn’t focused on you all the time, and can just suddenly switch focus. That’s even more difficult in DLC bosses where so much just one-shots you. First Radahn was so much easier for me to solo than try and fight with all the NPCs, even though I prefer that version thematically.
If it's your first playthrough you're not really going to notice the summons causing the boss to have too much more health but if you're playing on new game plus 7 it really ramps up the health a lot to the point of them just being unreasonable
I missed out on a lot of npc quests during my first spoiler-free playthrough. I needed that retaliatory crossed tree talisman for a pvp build so I rushed through the game with my old NG+2 character to transfer it to my pvp character. It broke my heart to have to invade Sir Ansbach for the talisman. It was the Milicent's Prosthesis scenario all over again.
Summoning a phantom for the Leda and friends fight, if they go uo the elevator before you it will completely skip the last boss fight stealing your chance to even fight them once. It will still give you the rewards though.
I love the fact there are no indications for quests on the map or on the menu, and you have to figure some things out by yourself. Its way more immersive. But then quests should be more explicit or its just bad design.
I believe grandma was choosen as empyrean by the mother of fingers, while marika was choosen by the two fingers. It is said that marika “cheated her way to the top” so she may have just done that to outstep granny
I would say my first time through I did all those wrong and more, I went straight to the last boss and broke every quest line before checking with half of the npcs and missed some entirely. I didn't even find Igor until I had already beaten the dlc.
Ansbach for life. Personally I ran a bleed weapon with some mid-combat buffs and a spirit ash so taking him along to draw attention away while I was casting, as well as contributing to his bleed counter was worth the health buff. Sadly Thiollier, not so much.
It's trivially easy to get locked out of all the main NPC quests. With such an emphasis on collecting scadutree fragments to survive, you can do "too much" exploring without storyline progression, and then you are just playing a series of bosses without any good story development... YANG (yet another new game), here I come.
I hate the Moore quest. If you go too far towards the shadow keep, you get locked out of the 7th cookbook. He will only give you the dialogue where you have to choose and then nothing.
In regards to chaos and the frenzied flame vs Bayle’s possession, both chaos and Florissax counters this what we perceive as inevitable ending of Bayle consuming us, we simply cannot be consumed since we will eventually inherit the elden ring, and the Rune of death also we keep ignoring the one thing that we don’t want to admit: we are chaos, we are order, we are actually the greater will. We never die, time stops for us unless we proceed. We see other versions of ourselves spread throughout other realities where we can even summon our other selves from distant realities to help us achieve our obstacle. We master every single weapon or spell we hold, almost instantly. We are order and we are chaos. We are what Marika waited for all these years.
Because of how hard it is to find that map for the jagged peak area, I completely missed the NPC at the dragon communion who told me about Bayle. Kinda pissed, didn't find that area until after I beat Bayle
Yk whats the worst decision I made in Elden ring? That was yesterday when I reached the final boss Radhan and I summoned two real people to help me fight him cause I heard people saying he’s the hardest boss ever, one of them rushed to the main gate of the boss and second one was afk, the one who ran to the main gate caused the game to bug out and thought the final boss was defeated by me but I didn’t even step a single foot in his arena and got the reward without fighting him.
FromSoft has had 15+ years to fix their games, yet the NPC side quests are just as buggy and flawed as ever. It's stupid how easy it is to fuck up NPC quests.
I killed a forager brood just to get him to invade so I could kill him for his armor and shield. The invasion ONLY works on the one that was already dying, i've tested it on other ones.
I accidentally killed one of the Forager Guild Pests, and didn’t get the 7th book, but who uses consumables anyways? Still got the other 6 books, and still got to tell Moore to stay sad forever, so I’m good.
Just a heads up, in the last update they updated Hornsent Grandams name from what used to be Empyrean Grandam leading me to think it was probably a mixup with the grandma that Marika leaves her braid with
My first play through I somehow only missed Thiollier. I went through every boss I could reach, interacted with nearly every main npc, and somehow still missed him, Guess I gotta start up another new game plus.
Going down darklight catacombs on a no vigor glass cannon had me going down darklight catacombs with a new build. And then, when I got to the boss at the end for the second time, I forgot to switch to red flasks and only had urgent heal. It was pretty rough, considering it was somehow ng2 and my mimic was only +4 . The decision years ago to just beat the game instead of farming golden seeds and ghost flowers, also bit me in the butt, down in good ol darklight catacombs, just so I can have my frenzied perfume bottle. Worth it. But yea midras guna be worse I think, nothing like trying to beat frenzied lord with frenzy, I'll probably change my build for it and hit the old larval dusty trail after.
Every choice I made I'm glad I did I play through the first time blind and it's an awesome experience I would never want to know everything ahead of time and be checking guides and all this that would totally kill at least half of the fun out of it
I told moore to be sad forever , thus seeing him laying on the pest , and invaded leda , I didn't even know where the storeroom key goes to , so I completely locked myself out of her quest. Am i cooked ?

I made the mistake of playing through with a friend. Those choiced invasions in shadow keep and storehouse never appeared until it was too late because of running through with somone
Three, playthroughs and I never knew that you had to actually use the warming Stone at the forger. I always just use the leave option and I always wondered why it never worked

My goal in my one dragon characters playthrough is to eat bayles heart and become lord of frenzied flame. The two of them can sort things out on their own later.
I actually managed to lock myself out of all but one of moores outcomes, which is the one bout attacking by the forager brood, but I refuse to do it. I’ll just complete one of the quests endings in NG+ 4… or NG+ 2 of my SotET playthrough

I summoned one player who had a tanky build just like me. We used blood build poky poky attacks too and won after playing it careful.
Thollier survived the whole ordeal. Sadly that does not change the outcome of his questline as usual. FromSoft has this hard one for tragedy.

Needle Knight Leda for better or worse is absolutely correct about everything. She was right that ansbach would want to turn on Miquella in the name of his lord, and she was correct that hornsent would never ever truly accept an age under marika’s kin. I always side with my man and the absolute gigachad ansbach but I give it to Leda she was able to read everyone’s hand the moment the charm ended.
With only one exception though, being Thiollier. She assumed that since he's loyal to St. Trina, he wouldn't go against Miquella as St. Trina's other half only to find out that her last wish was for Miquella to die and stop his ascension to godhood

I would have love to see at some point that fight between Miquella and Ansbach. This would have been when Miquella still had his body, how would he have fought? Did he just immediately charm him? Did they fight a little? Was Ansbach close at least? I may be wrong, but he is also Tarnished like us? In his incantation he has a "fearsome reputation" so I'd assume he would be really good in combat especially with his scythe.

The hornsent grandma lore goes DEEP. She may have been around during the time when marika arrived and she could have a part in Marikas ascension, possibly being a part of Marika going to the gate of divinity. It’s possible the hornsent grandma was given marika after she came out of a jar processing that succeeded
She also could be the witch mentor that Ranni mentioned who taught her frost magic. Granted I’m not sure where the frost stuff came in but given the divine beast uses frost, maybe the grandma used to be able to wield magic similar to the horsent knights.

Also she has the eye tattoo thing and multiple arms which are traits only seen among empyreans. (Miquella and Melina) So maybe she’s just referring to the hat or maybe the snow crone was another empyrean.

Keep in mind that both Ansbach and Thollier inflict statuses on Radahn (bleed and poison, respectively). I suspect that is why they in particular are your allies, since statuses tend to target maximum hitpoints.
Also, I was sad that I kept Ansbach alive throughout the fight and he still died afterwards. I was kinda hoping he'd be alive.

Or rather, not a mistranslation, they straight up changed the Japanese from "神人の老婆" (Empyrean Grandam) [Literal: Divine Old Woman] to "角人の老婆" (Hornsent Grandam) [Literal: Horned Old Woman]
Google Translate does translate "horned" as "horny" but... yeah I don't think that's what that means lol
Fuck Hornsent Grandmam, even ENTERING Messmer's arena before finding the obscure red summon signs for Leda vs Hornsent locks you out of both the encounters between Leda and Hornsent AND Leda and Ansbach. I was so fucking pissed off when I learned that. I don't understand why it needs to be based on entering the arena rather than actually defeating Messmer. Or why they have to throw those summon signs off in a corner where they're easy to miss rather than in the middle of the path.
Then there's also the fact that talking to Moore the wrong way upon first encounter can lock out his questline, which locks out part of Thiollier's questline, which locks off a potential ending for the Dragon Priestess' questline.
Also if you give Ansbach the item when he's in the Storeroom BEFORE you talk to Freyja at the top then you're locked out of her questline because he disappears.
Really, the NPC questlines in this DLC are a complicated web of obscure bullshit and some of the worst put together questlines FromSoft has ever done. I know it's like a cardinal sin to criticize these games for anything, but NPC quests are really some of the worst parts of these games and they seem to be getting worse with each iteration, not better.
The npc quests have always been nonsensical. Just look at solaires quest from ds1. At this point i assume its an intentional feature of these games.
Also, criticism is always allowed, granted that you have valid reasons for it, but people need to understand that others will always react negatively to criticism of things they love. Its not hate, its just human nature to be protective of things you love.
@ankaris Im glad somebody else has the same issue I encountered. I spoke to Ansbach before I was able to reach Freyja which loops her dialogue saying she’s busy. Ansbach is no longer at the bottom floor and I was searching endlessly for maybe 2 hours going through all the corners of the castle. It’s such a let down that these things happen with not just these two nps but with more questlines that give more impact to your dlc developement.

I fucked myself out of several questlines because I stumbled upon Shadowkeep by accident, having zero idea that this would lock me out of the questlines.
It angers me because its an open world game that penalizes being open world; I care about the lore, so for this to happen was really disappointing.

I tried to get the Ansbach vs Freyja fight in my second playthrough and I did everything exactly as Fextralife described it. Guess what? The quest broke anyway, their summon signs didn't appear.
Even Fextralife (including all the people commenting on that site to provide information) can't figure out Miyazaki's broken quest lines. The man really needs to get over himself and accept advice from professional quest designers because no one likes this mess he created.
Summon Ansbach and Thiollier and then use bleed/frostbite/DestinedDeath/Blackflame to chip away at Radahn since those all do percentage based damage and are unaffected by his health boost.

The best reason to summon Ansbach or Tholier against Radahn is that it gets him off of you just long enough that you can summon Mimic Tear and heal up, instead of getting one-shot during the summoning as you sap your own health with the hp cost.

My biggest gripe about this DLC is the fact that you can soft lock Freyja's quest by giving Sir Ansbach the scroll before meeting Freyja. The problem is you find Sir Ansbach and the scroll before meeting Freyja even if they are all in the same place: the first instinct is to deliver the scroll to Sir Ansbach as soon as you find it. Ideally, the best progression in the same area would have been meeting Sir Ansbach→Freyja →Scroll.

The only thing that going near the shadow keep locks you out of is thiollier concoction and thus the only thing you loose out on is the flortisaxxs dragon bold and her spirit ash

In the Golden braid description the g in grandmother is capitalized like it’s a title. I wonder if “Grandmother” is more like “Grand Mother” maybe the head of the Hornsent society and that is who was betrayed and used as sacrifice for Marika to become a god. The Grand mother could have been the high priestess of the crucible because it became the Erdtree.

I got the cookbook from moore after breaking the great rune. Not sure if they fixed it in patch. But after I told him stay sad for ever I talked to him again and he gave it to me, then I traveled to where he dies and got his armor.

Summoning allies BEFORE you enter a boss arena always increases the bosses health. Summoning them INSIDE the boss arena (like Igon for Bayle, the Hornsent for Messmer and Thiollier for the Putri Knight) doesn't. Those really make the fights easier the "outside" NPCs arguably make them more difficult a lot of the time.
The best tip I can give for the Radahn fight is to use a big shield and use a bleed weapons like Garius' sword lance. Killed him first try with that one.
Also you can just tell Moore to be sad forever after you've got all the cookbooks and he will apparently kill himself, also giving you his equipment without having to fight him during the Leda fight later.

@@SH19922x It was my 2nd kill overall, but it was 1st try with that (my 2nd) character that I started completely from scratch after finishing the DLC with my old NG+1 character which I used to play through ER twice after it was released 2 years ago.
So yeah, I beat him first try with the finger print shield and the Sword Lance with Seppuku on it. Radahn just doesn't have much attacks that go through your shield. You can also stack Holy resistance very far with the talisman mentioned in the video und the appropriate buff spell. And with the bleed build-up on the weapon he dies pretty quickly.
And my first character was a mage and used spirit ashes etc. so I kinda knew the boss somewhat, but I didn't know all his moves by heart or anything.

I don't play Elden Ring, but after watching some streamers, I'd say the "worst decision in SOTE" is fighting the last boss without a great shield. Chasethebro spent a good 5+ hours figuring out how to kill Radahn, but then he equipped a shield, and the encounter was done in two tries... Pretty hilarious that the best strategy for the final boss is to turtle with a pokey stick.

It was so dirty and effective, it changed my playstyle forever. I might go for the Elden Bling while traveling the land between, but the moment I saw a fog gate, it's turtle time boi.
Can't blame him, I tried to beat Radahn on 125 lvl solo with no blessings and succeeded without shield but his bossfight's difficulty is so amplified by one exact attack, the double X-slash, which you apparently have to frame-perfect dodge on reaction while not early dodging other attacks, only reliable way I found to counter this attack was either blocking or sekiro-parriyng tear in my case
@@Sp1d3r_ I don't even think you can parry it, which in my experience is the second best way to beat the boss, that attack is awful, I guess just bring good damage negation
@@boogerspaz217 I think I managed to parry it when I tried golden parry tactic, but even then reaction window is very tight and it's easy to miss a parry on other attacks when you expect this one to come out. I also watched Ongbal's run and it seems backstep talisman is a pretty reliable tool to utilise, considering you can still dodge most other attacks if you accidentally backstep them beforehand

I can't believe there was all this NPC content that I never saw. I just played the game normally, didn't even realize anything about them being enchanted or having their own quest lines or anything at all.
I'm happy I figured out that I should return to granny as soon as I obtained the Lion mask. It made so much sense because she wouldn't talk to me initially and was a sculpted keeper fangirl even having some Lion masks in her storage room.

I had no idea what a forager brood was when I heard that dialogue. So when I saw what I thought was a sleeping pest, I first tried interacting with it. When there was no interact prompt, I thought I could smack it, to wake it up. Oops. And double oops, because that was the first one I had seen. I received zero cookbooks, and some dumpy looking, oversized armor. Sigh.
Damn, just killed one of the brood this morning. Nobody ever warned me to avoid killing them.

The word "empyrean" grandam has been replaced from the text in lastest patch update, I believe it is a typo mistake since 神人 and 角人 is one word different in Japanese

The DLC is so compact. the map might be smaller than the base game but layers like a cake. So hard not to lock yourself out of guests on the first play through avoiding spoilers
You can access forager brood cookbook 6 before the shadow keep.
You just need to start at Moorth Ruins, drop down to Bonny Village, and go around the cathedral and approach the Shadow Keep from the east.

But the thing is, powerscaling doesn't really matter in that regard. The lore of the heart literally tells you that he will take over you someday. You character will succumb to the rage and turn into a dragon, that's inevitable. It's something abstract, not something you can just fight against. It's actually VERY similar to the Scourge of the Beast in Bloodborne. Doesn't matter who you are, if you get infected, that's it. it's just a matter of time and how much you can "Endure", just like Midra. You will just turn into a even more powerful and evil dragon...And that's pretty rad, actually. Turning into the king of dragons and dominating an entire continent? Hell yeah.

Using summons in Radahn fight also making him significantly harder to predict, he can change target mid-combo, he can cancel the cross-slash which has the biggest punishing window, sometime he will use long-range move like Gravitus or Lion's Claw pointblank.
2:03 Note - The "Divine Beast" isnt really a Beast at all. Its Two dudes in a costume doing a "dance". So dont feel so bad about "wearing the head of the beast" as its just a costume head.. Not an Actual head..
Another note. AFAIK Summoning a friend for ANY boss fight bolsters the bosses health. Not sure about NPC's and previous bosses, but it would appear as though they do, IF you summon before the fight starts, Examples - Freyja and Relanlalallna, you summon her outside before the fight, where as with Hornsent and Messssmer you summon him inside, Same with Putrescent and Thiollier, you summon him inside during the fight, thus the Hp "buff" to the boss is not applied.
The fact that it's two guys in a costume should make that worse. Since you killed two people to get it. And regardless of whether it was a real beast or not, it was still considered divine.

To be fair. Ansbach isn’t wrong about the children of the golden order they have all done wrong. Ansbach is a great character, the part where he doesn’t hold any grudge against you for killing Mohg is like in Yakuza 1 when Majimas boss was killed he says it’s part of the life of the Yakuza and he isn’t mad that he’s been killed
Fighting Bayle to early can be bad because the dragon lady won't give you the ancient dragon blessing anymore
I was trying to stay way from guides and tips in the DLC and after spending DAYS trying to beat Radahn with Thiollier and Ansbach because I liked the idea of them helping from a story line perspective. I went with just Ansbach and couldn't believe how much easier it was and beat him first try.

Worst decision in DLC is the devs making the entire main storyline exist in the top L 1/4 of the map and the rest exists to find scadtree fragments to deal with Radhan. Imagine the base game only having main story in Limgrave but hey, the rest is there if you want to explore it.
Honestly base game is already pretty bad in terms of how they design side quest, but dlc somehow makes it 10 times worse, given how easily you skip everything by just moving to x location (is not even a boss fight, you cross a certain point and you miss so much lore or your quest get perma locked.
In old Souls game this type of design works cuz you cant really skip any intended area, so you'd come across most npcs in the end. But being an Open World, ER is not the case. You WILL miss sidequests if you don't follow a guide and you like to explore...
Well partaking in dragon communion would eventually turn the devourer into a magma wyrm and I believe Flortissax says that if you consume Bayle you will eventually become a lord of dragons (possibly similar to Bayle even tho he’s a drake) which would keep you from becoming a wyrm and either become a dragon or drake which is why Flortissax will become your follower (also wife) if you have her sleep
Summoning npcs depends greatly on your build. They are quite good to use if you use a blood build as they give you some time to breath and the hp buff is less effective
I killed Ansbach because I thought it was the only way to get his bow and still feel bad as he is my favourite NPC. Radahn was a nightmare, tried summoning with Thiollier but ended up just taking my mimic when I was finally successful. Hefty rot pots were probably the tipping point in my fight. On my first attempt I accidentally broke the great rune and messed everything up, got punished for exploring without spoilers.
Honnestly who has the best written guides for this game? In terms of doing things in order and going place to place. Idm beating it once blind but if im.go NG+ I Wanna pick it apart.

You should tell Moore to stay sad forever, then after you kill Mesmer he’ll be dead embracing the forager brood that was injured, you still get his armor, shield, and bell bearing, but you won’t have to fight him with leda.
7:00 the pickled livers are improved versions over the normal livers (25% DR) but holyproof is bugged and negates less than the base game version
I played the whole game blind and when Leda said she was going to kill Hornsent, I immediately knew something fishy was going on with Miquella.
I missed out on forager's cookbook 7 because I talked to Moore, told him to move on before I had gotten the other 6 books. So if you break Miquella's charm, DO NOT do anything other than purchase and sell things from Moore before getting the other cookbooks.
Oh. I killed hornsent grandma after the DB fight because she was unresponsive and I was mad at her for summoning that thing on me. Got the incantation and the stew off her body though so who had the last laugh in the end, eh?
You can infuse the black steel greatshield with sacred ash of war infusion and it will give you 100% holly damage negation but I think you need to upgrade it first, that's how I beat the second phase.

I summoned both during Radahn and had an epic fun fight where the three of us were teamed up to destroy the ultimate threat in the DLC. Honestly, I didn’t notice the fight being any longer than when I solo’d it. I assume the damage they do makes up for the increase in health.
The main reason I find fights where you summon NPCs harder is because the boss isn’t focused on you all the time, and can just suddenly switch focus. That’s even more difficult in DLC bosses where so much just one-shots you. First Radahn was so much easier for me to solo than try and fight with all the NPCs, even though I prefer that version thematically.
If it's your first playthrough you're not really going to notice the summons causing the boss to have too much more health but if you're playing on new game plus 7 it really ramps up the health a lot to the point of them just being unreasonable
I missed out on a lot of npc quests during my first spoiler-free playthrough. I needed that retaliatory crossed tree talisman for a pvp build so I rushed through the game with my old NG+2 character to transfer it to my pvp character. It broke my heart to have to invade Sir Ansbach for the talisman. It was the Milicent's Prosthesis scenario all over again.
I love elden ring lore and you make it engaging enough that I decided to subscribe
Summoning a phantom for the Leda and friends fight, if they go uo the elevator before you it will completely skip the last boss fight stealing your chance to even fight them once. It will still give you the rewards though.
I love the fact there are no indications for quests on the map or on the menu, and you have to figure some things out by yourself. Its way more immersive. But then quests should be more explicit or its just bad design.
I believe grandma was choosen as empyrean by the mother of fingers, while marika was choosen by the two fingers. It is said that marika “cheated her way to the top” so she may have just done that to outstep granny
I would say my first time through I did all those wrong and more, I went straight to the last boss and broke every quest line before checking with half of the npcs and missed some entirely. I didn't even find Igor until I had already beaten the dlc.

Personally I ran a bleed weapon with some mid-combat buffs and a spirit ash so taking him along to draw attention away while I was casting, as well as contributing to his bleed counter was worth the health buff.
Sadly Thiollier, not so much.
It's trivially easy to get locked out of all the main NPC quests. With such an emphasis on collecting scadutree fragments to survive, you can do "too much" exploring without storyline progression, and then you are just playing a series of bosses without any good story development... YANG (yet another new game), here I come.
I hate the Moore quest. If you go too far towards the shadow keep, you get locked out of the 7th cookbook. He will only give you the dialogue where you have to choose and then nothing.
In regards to chaos and the frenzied flame vs Bayle’s possession, both chaos and Florissax counters this what we perceive as inevitable ending of Bayle consuming us, we simply cannot be consumed since we will eventually inherit the elden ring, and the Rune of death also we keep ignoring the one thing that we don’t want to admit: we are chaos, we are order, we are actually the greater will. We never die, time stops for us unless we proceed. We see other versions of ourselves spread throughout other realities where we can even summon our other selves from distant realities to help us achieve our obstacle. We master every single weapon or spell we hold, almost instantly. We are order and we are chaos. We are what Marika waited for all these years.
Because of how hard it is to find that map for the jagged peak area, I completely missed the NPC at the dragon communion who told me about Bayle. Kinda pissed, didn't find that area until after I beat Bayle
Yk whats the worst decision I made in Elden ring? That was yesterday when I reached the final boss Radhan and I summoned two real people to help me fight him cause I heard people saying he’s the hardest boss ever, one of them rushed to the main gate of the boss and second one was afk, the one who ran to the main gate caused the game to bug out and thought the final boss was defeated by me but I didn’t even step a single foot in his arena and got the reward without fighting him.
FromSoft has had 15+ years to fix their games, yet the NPC side quests are just as buggy and flawed as ever. It's stupid how easy it is to fuck up NPC quests.

I killed a forager brood just to get him to invade so I could kill him for his armor and shield. The invasion ONLY works on the one that was already dying, i've tested it on other ones.
I actually killed one of the forager brood before learning their connection with Sir Moore. Felt really bad about that when i learned it
I accidentally killed one of the Forager Guild Pests, and didn’t get the 7th book, but who uses consumables anyways? Still got the other 6 books, and still got to tell Moore to stay sad forever, so I’m good.
Just a heads up, in the last update they updated Hornsent Grandams name from what used to be Empyrean Grandam leading me to think it was probably a mixup with the grandma that Marika leaves her braid with
My first play through I somehow only missed Thiollier. I went through every boss I could reach, interacted with nearly every main npc, and somehow still missed him, Guess I gotta start up another new game plus.
Going down darklight catacombs on a no vigor glass cannon had me going down darklight catacombs with a new build. And then, when I got to the boss at the end for the second time, I forgot to switch to red flasks and only had urgent heal. It was pretty rough, considering it was somehow ng2 and my mimic was only +4 . The decision years ago to just beat the game instead of farming golden seeds and ghost flowers, also bit me in the butt, down in good ol darklight catacombs, just so I can have my frenzied perfume bottle. Worth it.
But yea midras guna be worse I think, nothing like trying to beat frenzied lord with frenzy, I'll probably change my build for it and hit the old larval dusty trail after.

Every choice I made I'm glad I did I play through the first time blind and it's an awesome experience I would never want to know everything ahead of time and be checking guides and all this that would totally kill at least half of the fun out of it

I ran in like the base game. Not knowing you risked certain questlines just in your movement. I am on my third play through trying to play smarter.
I told moore to be sad forever , thus seeing him laying on the pest , and invaded leda , I didn't even know where the storeroom key goes to , so I completely locked myself out of her quest. Am i cooked ?
7:10 I mean this is just completely ridiculous, who would possibly ever think to do this? I love Elden Ring but I hate the fact that completing quest lines without using a guide is nearly impossible.

I found the door, then found the key, then tried to find the door again but got lost in the area multiple times so gave up thinking there's probably nothing important in there :D
I made the mistake of playing through with a friend. Those choiced invasions in shadow keep and storehouse never appeared until it was too late because of running through with somone
I kinda burned the sealing tree before doing any npc quests… and killed them… I was not happy when I realized what I’ve done
Three, playthroughs and I never knew that you had to actually use the warming Stone at the forger. I always just use the leave option and I always wondered why it never worked
I got in the situation where I played through the entire DLC, without doing any of the questlines HAHAHA! Only realized it until WAY later, defeated radahn and I was like," ok where's the next main boss and what quests do I gotta do." 🤣
My goal in my one dragon characters playthrough is to eat bayles heart and become lord of frenzied flame.
The two of them can sort things out on their own later.
I actually managed to lock myself out of all but one of moores outcomes, which is the one bout attacking by the forager brood, but I refuse to do it.
I’ll just complete one of the quests endings in NG+ 4… or NG+ 2 of my SotET playthrough
