It is near impossible to calculate that since it is nighttime and the shadows are mainly made up of the additional lights and they change where ever you walk considering the position of you and the light source, therefore, making it basically unachievable to calculate that.
The answer to the riddle of the crazy scientist in the tower do also have an alternative. For example you can use the stick to measure the shadow of the tower bit by bit.
