I really loved this hike! Eagle Bluffs sits at an elevation of 1,094 m and offers breathtaking views of Vancouver and beyond.
Getting to Cypress Mountain Parking Lot: On Highway 1, take Exit #8 for Cypress Bowl Road. Follow the paved highway for 13 km all the way until the parking lot at the very end by the downhill ski area.
Located on the jagged slopes above Eagle Harbour lies a breathtaking view of Vancouver and beyond from Eagle Bluffs. There are three potential routes, but I chose to start the hike at the alpine skiing area at the Cypress Mountain parking lot. From here the Baden Powell Trail is well marked and takes about 4 hours for a round trip over Black Mountain, to Eagle Bluffs and back to your car (I did it in roughly this amount of time, but I stopped a lot to take photos and film - the scenery on the way up is stunning!)
Eagle Bluffs is not mentioned on signage often, however you will follow the Baden Powell Trail which is marked by the distinctive "BP" & bright orange trail markers on the trees. The trail begins to ascend quickly as you make your way up a series of switchbacks. Make sure to take rest breaks, drink water and look back at the views as you gain elevation quickly through this steep initial section of the hike. After a section of more gradual incline, the trail will reach and junction and to the right lies beautiful Cabin Lake. After you’ve enjoyed a pit stop at the lake, I recommend a short 250m detour trail up to the North summit of Black Mountain, sitting at 1,224m.
Back on the main trail by Cabin Lake, continue to the end of the boardwalk and you’ll pass the southern peak of Black Mountain. You’ll then begin to descend downhill through the forest to Owen Lake, then you’ll pass by several muddy sections and several small lakes. After another 20 minutes or so, the trail descends quickly down a steep rocky section and into a thicker forested area followed by a clearing and the incredible view from Eagle Bluffs.
Luckily I showed up on a clear sunny day, so the sprawling Lower Mainland, Vancouver International Airport, Mount Baker, Eagle Harbour, Horseshoe Bay and all the way to Vancouver Island was all visible! Such a great view of Stanley Park, UBC, and the large amount of cargo ships sitting in English Bay, too.

The little chipmunk visitors were adorable! Did you have any mosquito issues during the hike?
Weren't they so sweet! Clearly they are used to being fed which isn't great, but I loved having them jump up to say hi!
@@DameUntamed I was stopped at a view point in the Kootenay region, overlooking Columbia Lake and I had one come darting up and stop right next to me. It just sat there for a bit, staring out at the same view I was enjoying.
What hiking boots are you wearing in this video?
Hi Charmaine, I'm wearing Salomon hiking boots! They are great. I've had them for 6 years and they are still holding strong. The closest available hikers that I could find would be the "SALOMON QUEST PRIME GTX - HIKING SHOES ".
The Rats are terrible at cypress bowel. Hope they didn’t bite you.
Thankfully no rat bites for me... phew! Didn't even see one, just the chipmunks and squirrels which I don't mind :)
