Totally understand why you quit. I was a Sec school teacher for 19 years and quit my job in May. I also struggled to find meaning in my job after so long, i guess my passion for the students died sometime ago. Everyday just going through the motion, until i could not take it anymore, fueled by unmotivated students and unreasonable parents.
That’s incredible. 19 years being a sec school teacher!😯 I have friends who teach in schools too, the demands from unreasonable parents and school mgmt culture are key factors. It must have been a difficult decision given that it’s such a niche career 🙁 Hope you found something else that works for u!

I totally agree with your thoughts! I tendered my job a couple of months ago without another job as well. I was doing accounting, I understand how well the job prospect can be if I endure through the years but indeed, the thought of doing a mundane job scares me. I’m doing a totally different job now, the pay is slightly lower but I’m much happier and I think that’s what truly matters because we spend 1/3 of our lives working, we need to enjoy our jobs to live life to the fullest. Am currently jobless too (got fired previously after 1 month into my new job for not hitting my sales KPI) but thank God I just accepted a new job offer. It’s a tough and cruel world out there but there are many people who will support and encourage you. Just relax and recharge first. As long as you continue to apply for jobs, a suitable offer will come eventually. Hang in there!

I stayed in a job 20 years because at first I was scared to leave because I didn't know what else was out there, then I stayed because I had been there so long I didn't know if I could get paid as much elsewhere. When I finally left it was the best thing. I was doing similar work but for a company I loved working for. (And paid more!) Wishing you all the best!❤

Support. Do what makes you happy. Give and take there is no perfect work, but it should at least be a place that make you more than half happy. Go for it! You can do it! Be happy!!
Hi there! Just want to say that you are so brave to make this decision. In fact I did it as well earlier this month because I find that I don't have much to learn from my current job alongside with the career progression. Currently I do not have a job in line but will be going on a part time course which will last about 6 months. The course is pretty good that would help me learn some skills in IT related knowledge which the school would helped me to arranged for interview/job offers based on my technical skills that I have learn throughout the 6 months. Just want to say that you are a brave lady because not many young couples are able to do that with the increase in cost of living + housing loan + daily expenses or some even with kids to take care of. Lastly, please take care of mental health and stay positive while the job hunting might take up to 6 months (hopefully less than that). Good luck!

leaving a job can be a fine line. I too was in a similar situation where I wanted more of a challenging and meaningful role. My current role at the time was ok. The management and people were super nice and friendly. I subsequently left anyway and then found a new role with more responsibility with a new company. But it came with a price -- my new manager and executives were very toxic and nasty and just pushed down on all the staff. I dreaded getting up and going into the office every morning (this was about 5 yrs ago pre-Covid with no wfh). I only lasted 4 months and begged my old manager to give me my old job back and thankfully she did. Now, if I ever switch jobs, I will only do it through networking with mates because at least they can tell me honestly if the company they are at is a good place to work at or not.
Whaooo your previous company must have also valued your contributions v much👍🏼 Good to hear you managed to escape toxic mgmt - this is the worst environment to be in, no matter how great the job is and how well-paid!
@@yuldaze totally agree. 5-6 years ago, when we had openings, we would only get 20-30 CVs per open role. Now, we receive hundreds being emailed blindly to our HR manager -- and we don't even have any openings ! so yes, it is a tough market. Hopefully you have some leads and can land on something soon !
Work these days has been so challenging and very fast paced. We should normalize career break and prioritize mental wellbeing. Take a break and come back stronger!!!
Ooh actually there are lotsa affordable food options near my current workplace! Mostly food centres. If I want to keep expenses low, it can go as low as $6 per meal, including kopi 🙂
Now Scoot quite cheap, esp Nov time slot. Grab a cheap cheap ticket, fly to Osaka and head down to Shikoku, and drift aimlessly one whole month. Best is to bridge over New Year and then see how. 😁 if you are fearless, try walking long dark motor tunnel, about 30 mins type. You may think it is silly, not really soul searching, but somehow you will communicate with your own soul.
Didn't know Song fish got sell frozen fruits. Wonder how big the bag is 😊 will check that out. Can be "rebellious" in job when young 😉 Esp when there's no much monetary commitment. I only lasted 4 months and begged my old manager to give me my old job back and thankfully she did. Now, if I ever switch jobs, I will only do it through networking with mates because at least they can tell me honestly if the company they are at is a good place to work at or not.

@@yuldaze totally agree. 5-6 years ago, when we had openings, we would only get 20-30 CVs per open role. Now, we receive hundreds being emailed blindly to our HR manager -- and we don't even have any openings ! so yes, it is a tough market. Hopefully you have some leads and can land on something soon !

Ooh actually there are lotsa affordable food options near my current workplace! Mostly food centres. If I want to keep expenses low, it can go as low as $6 per meal, including kopi 🙂
Now Scoot quite cheap, esp Nov time slot. Grab a cheap cheap ticket, fly to Osaka and head down to Shikoku, and drift aimlessly one whole month. Best is to bridge over New Year and then see how. 😁 if you are fearless, try walking long dark motor tunnel, about 30 mins type. You may think it is silly, not really soul searching, but somehow you will communicate with your own soul.
I’m careful about my spending now without an income🥲 But thanks for the inspiration! I might do a short trip nearby🙂
