This is great information for those concerned with energy costs! Now I can feel less guilty about leaving my Arcade1Up cabs on attract mode when I’m doing other things in the room!
I wouldn’t worry at all about the 1Ups after seeing this info lol. I used to feel a little guilty myself with the modded 1Ups running but compared to the real games, they don’t pull much.
I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed it that much. I genuinely was nervous to release this one. It was one of those things I wasn’t sure if I was alone in wondering about it lol.
@@KillerArcadeGames I’ve had a killawatt for a long time, I honestly want to steal your idea and try it on my megacade and vpin for a video since each have so much RGB they have dedicated switching power supplies just for lights…
Awesome vid brother. Now you got me curious about my Rush 2049 SE and Artic Thunder cabs especially since the Artic Thunder has the shaker in the seat and the blower.
Very good stuff, thank you for doing it! For my arcade goals (since like most of us, we have just about every game available you could imagine on one platform or another ranging from mini consoles, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Wii U, etc.) it's really about making it super easy and encouraging for me to "play a quick game" and so power consumption is a big deal. Having to power on that Hydro Thunder, wait a minute and then use 200+ watts would be very discouraging for me...
Real arcade cabinets have the biggest draw upon startup due to the CRT firing from cold. Once running, they aren't too bad. With 20 arcade games and a 15amp breaker, I can pull it up without tripping the breaker, but as soon as I throw the pins into the mix, it's blackout city in the gameroom lol.
I do remember the lights dimming in my room when I’d turn on the old CRT TV as a kid! I picture your basement outlet looking like Clark Griswold’s garage outlet hahah. Would it be too hard to add another circuit down there?
@@KillerArcadeGames that pretty much sums it up lol. The cheater way to do it, is to add a 20amp breaker to the box. The correct way is to wire the entire thing from scratch, but since my basement is finished, I'm taking the cheap way out lol. A friend of mine is an electrician by trade and he's coming over to inspect. Really, it's the pinball machines that throw a monkey wrench into the plan. Running all my arcades with the pins off, doesn't trip thr breaker.
Thanks! As someone who does the same with other channels, its cool to hear of someone bingeing my channel. Hydro Thunder is such a fun game, the tracks are so detailed.
I've bought 3 packs of these amzn.to/3jDKnRo They seem to be pretty good about staying online. I've only had a few instances where they lost connection and I had to unplug them and plug back in. I do keep them on a power strip between machines so I can easily reach them if I do need to reboot them. I have a bunch of those Wemo smart switches in my house to use with Apple HomeKit. Those are good too but I didn't want my games to be accidentally turned on or off by a random voice command from my wife in the house lol. Kasa does make a 4 pack of HomeKit enabled plugs, if you prefer that.
I recently modded one of my Arcade1up machines by following one of your videos. I was curious, is there any worry of having the pc plugged into a power strip vs directly into the wall? I'm about to mod my second cabinet and logistics wise, it would be so much easier if I could plug the PC's into their respective power strips instead of directly into the wall. Not going to have them on the same outlet of course, but just want to make sure I'm not going to short out my PC or start a fire or something. Thanks!
I haven't had any issues with the PCs being plugged into the strip. All of my 1Up mods have the same PCs on strips inside. They've been power cycled probably 100-200 times by now and the PC is fine.
The presence and SOUND that comes from an OG Arcade has NO EQUAL!!! Especially the OG MKII cab! 100 machines running and you heard MKII over everything else!
@@KillerArcadeGames Those attract screens with that BASS back in the day was incredible! Im jelly u got that OG KI! My dream cabs are KI, SFII CE and MKII cabs!
Yeah it’s nuts! The Texas arcade/hard cider chain Cidercade must have insane electric bills. They’re open at least 12 hours a day, every day. Each location has over 100 games and their biggest has around 300. It must be super expensive to operate. But they’re always packed!
I don't have the cabinet anymore but it should be around .25-.50 amps if I'm calculating it correctly. They use very little power compared to real machines.
I remember way b4 his youtube stuff around like 20 or 22 i got into mame and because of him i got to play ki and 2 from his website and randomly found his youtube channel...THATS INSANE THE ODDS OF THAT
😀 i was thinking large arcade machine like does would pull like 500wattt am surprised to know its not really to insane of a current draw pretty regular in my opinion most normal appliance draw like 125 watts so 200-300 watts aint bad at all aint bad at all :)
Yeah it really isn’t that bad. I know most of the cabs say 3 or 4 amps on the power sticker on the back. I assume that’s their max potential consumption.
How many watts did the drums pull? Sorry, I couldn't resist, I'm juvenile. You're lucky I didn't comment about you saying you were bending over when you plugged in hyrdo thunder. Wait. Nevermind, told you I was juvenile.
The drums are on their own circuit, i even set up a whole new line of 125 amp service to power those bad boys! Haha I didn’t even check it but I assume they take nearly no power, if I include the PA system it might be a couple of amps!

I LOVED this video, such a great idea! I was trying to guess each machine before the reveal. OG machines were about 50-100watts less than I thought.

This was awesome! Thank you for sharing.

Dude, this content is fire
I can’t tell if you’re serious but if so, thanks. If not, I get it…this was an odd choice of video content haha.

Good to know. My old basement had one outlet for three arcade1ups.
I’m no electrical engineer but I assume you could run around 50 1Ups on one breaker without an issue lol.

good video dude I was curious about this as well
Thanks, now we all know!
Sad I missed ya Monday. Next week! Have a good one man
Thanks for checking this one out. I might stream this weekend!
great to know, excellent video bro
Thanks, I really didn’t know how this video would do. I’m glad people enjoyed it.
Cool video!
Loving the channel mate! Been binge watching over the last few days. Would love to have a Hydro Thunder arcade, one of my favourites!

Sweet video it was different , i would of guessed hydro would pull the most. Good to know my 1ups arent energy hogs .
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I wasn’t sure what people would think of this one.
hey thanks for this; i was curious on how much power i was using in my arcade lol, seems like not much actually!
If its mostly 1Ups, you're good! If all of my cabinets were big CRT based machines, I'd probably notice the hit on the electric bill haha.
Great video. What smart switches do you use for the cabinets?

Yeah buddy!! I’m loving it.

That's absolutely true. Its shocking how loud the real cabinets are compared to the 1Up cabinets, even with the aftermarket sound systems.
@@KillerArcadeGames Those attract screens with that BASS back in the day was incredible! Im jelly u got that OG KI! My dream cabs are KI, SFII CE and MKII cabs!
Holy hell, your average arcade would require so much power to run! That real KI cab is a power hog.

you can probably run that room on a small solar panel!
Maybe. I assume the whole place running at full capacity (AC included) is around 30 amps. I don't know much about solar so I can't say.
How many amps does the Mortal Kombat 30th anniversary pull? Thanks!
