This song is on my BAND-MAID list titled "mood". It is my favorite song on the list. Not that the other songs are bad, there isn't a "bad" song in their catalog. I just love this one most. BAND-MAID has recorded more songs that I love than any band in history. That's really saying a lot. I love a lot of bands and different kinds of rock and roll but no one does more or has done more to encompass all the different kinds of rock that I love than BAND-MAID. Whether I want to just head bang like a mad man or listen to the more "pull your heartstrings" kind of rock, I can ALWAYS count on BAND-MAID to give me what I want.

I completely Agree with your analysis. They are the definition of complete not only without a weakness but an overabundance of strength at each position. It's like having a band of studio musicians that happen to be created by artists and performers all in one. I think the most impressive thing about Band-Maid is that they have had the same lineup from day one for over a decade. That in itself is extremely rare.
Usually one or two members are the standout members that are indispensable the others are role players that can replaced without missing a beat. With Band-Maid all are indispensable that cannot be replaced. Let's just hope they are only in their prime.

My friend, isn't it fun discovering (in my case, rediscovering) a new Band-Maid song. Every time you hear a new song by the group, it's like you looked down, saw a new gem, picked it up, wiped it off, and now it's part of your collection that keeps growing. Mining for gems could be an apt description for reacting to new Band-Maid songs.

This makes me long for more piano from them. It also emphasizes that their writing and arranging skills are as deep as their performance skills. All of their songs are emotionally charged, and I've come to feel that that underlies their musical decisions. No thought for genre. The only question is: Does this sound convey the emotion we're trying to convey? This song has a pensive 'how do I pick up the pieces' feel to it. It's hard to get pensive out of an electric guitar. Comes more naturally to the piano, and I couldn't imagine this song without it.

Fantastic. With over 130 songs in their quiver, it's great to stumble upon a new listener of a great old song of theirs. I love this song, I swear this band could mitosis itself into 4 or 5 groups to play jazz; fusion; metal; rock; acoustic and anything else.
Anything you pick that you haven't heard yet, your Maidiacs will love because your reaction cuz for us it's another opportunity to hear an older song, revisited and in your case new insights. Not true for all reactors but I always seem to pick up a gem or two of new ideas or insights.
Oh and you actually can pigeon hole one member of the troop lol

It's still so Band-Maid. I love jazz, and it has the slight acid-jazz vibe that I enjoyed during the 90s too. Pop-rock fused with that created my one of many favourites. Thanks so much for giving this song more love it deserves.

My friend I enjoy your channel not just for bandmade but for all the bands that you review I like the fact that you're a musician and you can break down what you feel is right about a song or wrong by the song and whether or not I agree with you at every single song I still respect the way you look at the songs and break things down. I don't care if you do a song that's 35 years old just hearing your aspect of how this song was written there's always informative very much appreciated.

I love everything about this song, from Kanami's piano intro and playing throughout, to the groove that Akane lays down, to the great harmonies. Okay, I can do without the acted out parts of the video, but I guess that helps to explain Saiki's little gift to us at the end of the song, lol.

This song has a mixed reviews among fans, but musically, it is a very sophisticated piece of work that no ordinary rock band could possibly imitate. It is a wonderful fusion of rock and adult comtemporary, with the use of 6th, 7th, sus4 chords and used in jazz and R&B, as well as the ghost note groove of the snare. I feel the similarity with the 80's super group TOTO, who used to play hard rock with various elements.

    • @lurkmerchant
      @lurkmerchant Місяць тому +1

Yes I loved ToTo. They were my favourite in the 80s folkowed by level 42. They had the different sound from other big name 80s bands. Kanami reminds me of Steve Lukather, not for her playing style but the way her creative mind works.
Her main instrument happened to be guitar, but she has the mind of composer. Like it's all in her mind to start with, melody and sound. Band-Maid has the talents she wants to draw out the picture, feel, rhythm and sound in her mind. I'm rambling here myself. In Band-Maid, everyone is as melodic as vocals, and everyone is as rhythmic as rhythm section in my opinion. And everyone's happy musical paradise. No one tries to limit your creativity. You have your own colours and shades.
I bet I'm not the only one who sees colours and pictures in Band-Maid music.

from JAPAN. Thank you for your reaction to BAND-MAID. Again, I enjoyed listening to the program. May I make a suggestion? You checked out the acoustic versions of SAIKI and KANAMI, why not now check out Sayonakidori by MIKU? This song is uploaded on the official site and can be easily found. Personally, I consider it a masterpiece of MIKU. MIKU, MISA, and AKANE, play as a 3 piece, and MIKU's sweet vocals, different from SAIKI's, are very attractive. Also, unusually, AKANE provides backing vocals. MISA plays lead bass. There is also an acoustic version of another song, Catharsis, which is a full band. I think MISA's bass stands out on all of the acoustic versions of the songsAnd KANAMI's acoustic guitar also has a nice taste! This is also nice, so check it out if you like.

I love Band-Maid's "Start Over" because I'm into great writing, playing and well-constructed songs. But the jewelry store ad MV... not so much. Songs like Daydreaming, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Wonderland, Awkward, Start Over, Mirage, At the Drop of a Hat and Smile can help them more than most of their catalog to become more approachable and widely accepted by the general public.
However, I'm afraid the kind of songs I love from Band-Maid, The Warning, Lovebites, and Jinjer will remain a tiny, tiny niche like a sea slug in the ocean of teaming pop life. BTW - Start Over sounded awesome in their online live OOJ Concert. And it gets great fan reaction as seen here in Amsterdam: :ua-cam.com/video/AGyWuUm0SIA/v-deo.html (Fanvid thanks to Vladimir Chupin) Thx, Thx, John!

Supposedly this song caused a bit of negative reaction among some fans. They were crying about Band Maid going too pop and soft? Then Band Maid responded with "shut up" at the end of Rinne, probably their hardest song yet. I love this song and wish they had explored the styling with more songs.

    • @me262a1

I remember when this song came out and it was more than "a bit of negative reaction". The JBI or nothing sect was ready to march on Tokyo with pitchforks and torches if they could. It was really bad in reddit and the discords. I gotta admit I was a little worried myself. LOL I've since learned that this band knows what they are doing, to expect the unexpected and at the end of the day when it's all said and done they are an impossibly hard rocking maid band.

Never let Kanami and the ladies hear that their music has become too soft. Unless you want to hear more often messages like Saiki's at the end of a song that is very 'poppy' even by their standards. The good Kanami has certainly even intentionally left out her guitar solo and instead treated us to wonderful piano tones. Now that I think about it.... Ladies, you're getting soft! 🤣❤‍🔥🤘🏻

RC, first of all, by all means ramble on when it comes to breaking down Band-Maid songs because I learn quite a bit when you do it. Second, as a musician, what is your opinion of why this band is so special that rockers and musicians our age put them above most any band and even compare their music writing on par with the Beatles? FYI, I thought Rush would be my favorite band until the day I die but now they have dropped down to second all time favorite. Just pick any Band-Maid song and we’ll be waiting for it! ✌🏼

So, good ear here! I assume you are talking about the two chord "punch" being done by Kanami, Miku and the piano. This combo was, and still is, very popular in Pop Rock and Rock in general. In this case it's a C/G move that is used as cadence during the verse. You can hear Cadential moves like this in many songs from "Celebrate" by Kool and the Gang to "Roundabout" by Yes. I'm going to assume that what is really catching your ear is the Tone. Kanami is playing the transition with ringing "open" chords, Miku uses tightly controlled Bar Chords while the piano gives a "ringing punch" underneath. You can hear a great use of this combo throughout the song "Thunder Island" by Jay Ferguson. Let me know if you figure out what song you're thinking of - I'm super curious now! Rock on and hope this helps!
