We've heard this same rhetoric before. Nothing has changed. You need to act yesterday.

The city of Johannesburg is mandated to prevent these things from happening rather than wait for them to happen and deal with the fallout thereof.

These new chaps do not know that they are suppose to do PERIODICAL CHECKUPS, but they grew up knowing that this was done to prevent such incidents. So it is easy to drag the city to court. They just talk and do not want to do their part, pushing it over. If I was the owner of that block I would implicate the city , they are paid to do these things not just call FIRE FIGHTERS.

This means that all those hijacked buildings are the homes of the criminals coming from outside South Africa

And clearly government is scared of them since they've been occupied more than 20 years, I don't think their strategy will require more than 5 years

How long must this situation of highjacked building continue? Why can't the municipality deal with these buildings?

Sir do you have what it takes to deal with these complex issues? The clock is ticking. Thabiso and the rest of us have the right to know when you are going to fix this dilapidated city (i.e crime-ridden streets, homelessness, youth unemployment, violence against women and children, pot holes and the general rot in the city etc)

Entering someone's property without their permission is generally considered trespassing

Just listening to this short man, and I already have no confidence. Why is he asking for ideas, he should come forth with them, he gets the salary & perks. Just another stooge

Until the present governing bodies start to reconsider the MUNICPAL LAWS like keeping the buildings HABITABLE; the pavements should be kept clear for pedestrians to walk; the municipalities to build places for marketing where people can rent stands, what is happening now to these buildings LITIGATIONS can show up on top of somebody's desk. INTERNATIONAL COURTS can feed on SA. The best bet is to take these buildings down, what the world saw of a building in HILBROW is beyond HEALTH HAZARD.

Mr Mayor..... Your first major challenge. Dare i say you destined to fail!!!! . No resolve, no urgency. There is no easy solution. You cannot be Mr Nice Guy and also address the hijacking of buildings by being "sweet".... Sadly you are way out of your depth here and destined to fail..... The City of Jhb should be sued for negligence, perhaps then we will see some real action.

South African cities are run by people who were C and D grade achievers in school! So, why do people expect this people to bring an A or B level of standard in the city. People who had A and B grade average in school live in places like Sandton or Cape Town or overseas. They have no confidencce or desire in living in Banana Republic cities!

I don't trust this mayor, shame. Nevertheless, he needs to be given a chance to show the citizens of this country what he's capable of.

If the City of Johannesburg with the resources of the JMPD cannot prevent buiding hijackings how the heck are the owners of the buildings meant to do it? This has been going on since the early 1990s -the idiot bureaucrats have just realised there's a problem😂😂😂😂

Who is oblidged to organised the relocation?... The city or the owner?... If this falls on the City, then its favorable for the owners to smoke out these building hijackers quicker than going to court😂😂... I would hire someone to start a fire to get my building back.

@siphociliwe1096 A lazy lazy person will make excuses and look opposite direction like what is happening now. HOUSING OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, we might as well call back APARTHEID.
