    My biggest take from this is his mental game. He just seems so relaxed and present for each shot. Even on bad shots, he saw a positive solution to prevent a high score. I get way too frustrated on bad shots and my expectations are delusional for the reality of where I’m at in the game.

      We gotta remember we are playing a game. I got so frustrated with golf I gave it up for a year and a half, now even when I slice a ball into the water it puts a smile on my face because the next shot can't be any worse, and as long as you're out there you are getting better.

      I play the game to be in the moment. It’s totally relaxing being outside hitting balls in the water or clanking them off trees, or even creating a 3 foot divot just to have your ball roll inches in front of you while the chick in the drink cart shakes her head and the grounds crew looks on.
      I love the game not because I’m good, cause I am so bad. I love it because of the memories with friends and family and being outside.

Many Pros struggle to explain what they are doing in a simple way but John has a gift for keeping it simple. Relax, have fun, and enjoy the feeling of a well hit shot, I think that's why we all play anyway

    Wow a blast from the past….I learned so much from this very episode, I still hit about 20-30 balls left hand only every time I hit balls (3 times a week) it really taught me to stay behind the ball and become a much better ball striker. This video just started and I bet there’s a part where he says keep the driver on the ground for 18 inches during takeaway….that in itself cured my slice forever and taught me to hit the driver from the inside.

    • @puredistancegolf
      @puredistancegolf Рік тому

      @zebrazport3120 it definitely doesn’t. Forcing mechanical positions is never a good idea, especially at high speeds. Work on mobility in the gym and let it happen naturally, if at all. There are much more important things to focus on than a straight lead arm in the backswing, especially as far as swing-speed is concerned.

    I really like listening to JD talk about his approach. He has this way of simplifying things. He is much more articulate than people give him credit for due to the notion that people who are from the south that speak with a drawl somehow lack intelligence. It happens to all of us and a reminder of how humbling this game is. New equipment takes a solid month or more to adjust. Not sure if you ever been fitted before but I have twice. First one was terrible and the equipment was all wrong for me but how would I know. The second was done from Club Champion dialed in with that track man. Mixed bag later, I thought everything would be solid.
    Come to find out all the bad habits I had from the previous clubs were still in the new ones and had to adjust and trust the process.
    Unplug for a couple days and do something totally different and then come back to it and get back on the grind. It will all come back and then some!

    Shame we didn’t see more of John in Europe. Natural player and the greatest character.

    So …188 yrds out and out of rough id probably (if i was trying to manage my round )hit a 7i also …but! Not thinking i would be putting my next shot …but if i worm burn it it may make it bouncing along but not screem by and if i connected perfectly with loft etc id have a very short chip /sand /pitch etc with the unusual chance at birdie….id not expect it to be hit perfectly (with loft ) and carry almost 200 yards and roll almost off back of the green 😮….these guys always amaze me how they do this…when i was younger (and maybe still today ) i could occasionally lauch a perfect 7i that distance ,but id have no clue where it’d land lol…could be up to 50 yards left or right of target,and if on target that would probably be luck 1 time out of 15-20 tries lol ….👏🏼👍🏼

    Big John won the open championship at the home of golf , St. Andrew's . At the end of the day, all the stuffed shirts that kept him off the Ryder cup, can never take that away .
