The fact you did this was mad respect - still have a lot to learn but impressed with Lush’s knowledge
I love how lush one can relate to literally everything, most Americans would find this weird but lush actually fucks with it and can relate
Leandro Femi yeah I love his point of view and knowledge
Lush a real 1
Init, rate him for this
Facts bro
So much respect for Lush! Dude is actually quite educated on grime and that's very rare in Americans. The way he analysed the clash is amazing taking into consideration the era, history and different styles of both Kano and Wiley!
Lush lowkey knows his shit about the UK scene
“Willy vs Kano” GOAT.
RIP Esco
SKEPTA VS DEVILMAN NEXT PLS
Hope they do this!! They'll prefer it
Guys the reason a lot of Wiley's end in the same word . They are pre written 16's . they were made for raves /clubs with live crowds . Easy to remember lyrics that the crowd can chant back to you )
Yesssssss u really said it all
Well done, and the chanting at back,is what makes the battle so interesting
Brap you man really watched a grime clash
LOLLL omg cant believe ur covering this! im a grime fan but i dont think people will be feeling this but its such a huge battle, maybe biggest of all time in the UK scene at the time
OKG2000 It's a dope battle. People were trashing it, but when you understand it it's fucking dope. Not lyrical content, but the flow is dope.
Just for some context... this battle was set up with no real prep really... kano was coming up and Wiley was the biggest thing and jammer decided to set this clash up... That is why there isn't many bars directed at each other they just mixed bars up a bit
I love how knowledgeable lush is on music
Rip esco in the back
LMFAO this fool called Wiley willy
Even though Avo did pronounce it incorrectly at first (it's not as if he's into the grime scene though), Wiley has called himself that in bars plenty of times over the years and once in this battle aswell
spitting writtens in clashes in the UK is totally normal actually a bit of a trend. We dont look down on it, unless its being totally overdone. Its purely for crowd reaction which is crucial over here. Usually they are well known writtens, just a few lines, that the crowd can get behind that are then remixed for the occasion.
Having iconic bars also leads to the hi-jacking of the opponents bars/flows and using them against eachother which understandably, non UK listeners usually dont catch.
Still got this dvd
Lush and Frak couldn't have been a better choice of guests for this clash
So just a little background on this, first of all thanks for doing this cause hopefully it turns people to check out some grime, in particular some easy listens, p money - catch me if you can, pretty much anything from kano/ghetto, wiley/dizzee rascal and then go from there if interested. Anyways so as far as background goes, the camera guy (dude with the dreds) that's jammer, part of kano's crew at the time (nasty crew). Wiley was at the time the 'top boy' of grime/eskimo (arguable i guess). Kano was the up and coming artist more known for flows/lyricism. The trick with this type of battle though is to watch it all yhe way through without stopping as it's all about the general vibe and atmosphere (i get why they stop alot to talk but this isn't like most kotd/url/grind time battles where you can do that. Also the guy in the white tee at the back is esco who has since passed away (not sure if relevant)
Also a sidenote wiley may have seemed basic in terms of rhyme schemes at the time but his thing is more catching the beat right and riding it through so if you keep that in mind it helps make more sense with why he isn't so technical with bars even though he is capable of it. Also worth noting the sheer amount of bars they both had for damn near all 5 rounds, imagine that in 2004 without a note pad or phone to look up a verse compared to these days with there only being three rounds generally speaking in battles these days
Thanks for this!!!
This is why I subscribe to RYD. I love Grime but I'm not from the UK so I know next to nothing. This makes it difficult to "dig in," as exposure is minimized, but I'm always anxious to find more stuff. I will say this battle is highly more enjoyable watching the battle non-stop. Might have to reformat RYD for this type of thing (pause and talk at the end of rounds or something) because it's infinitely better that way. Imran Kazzy, thank you so much for the info. Please, if you or anyone else has further recommendations, I'm sure I'm not the only one that will enjoy. Anyone who can't appreciate this should just stop listening to any type of rap because it's honestly not for you. This was amazing. The only point I'll disagree with is that even though Wiley's rhyme schemes were basic, he definitely had bars. Give. Me. More. Going to check out what you mentioned already... Respect Avo.
I second what Imran Kazzy has said but I would also recommend listening to full albums/mixtapes such as Kano- Home Sweet Home, Ghetts -Ghetto Gospel, Dizzie Rascal- Boy In Da Corner, Wiley- Playtimes over, Dot Rotten- Rip young Dot. They're some of my personal favourites and show the foundations of the grime scene. I think listening to grime freestyles/Radio sets is a good way to find more artists as well, check out logan sama after hours freestyles on youtube! I can imagine just typing grime into youtube won't give the best results as the scene is now somewhat overcrowded with music that I wouldn't consider grime and certain artist that are very mainstream but don't show what real grime has to offer.
WTF? NEVER IN MY LIFE WOULD I HAVE THOUGHT I'D SEE GRIME HERE WOW
Don't think these man know this was not even planned and was just that happened that day. That's why this clash is so legendary coz jammer just asked man to jump in front of camera and this happened. Not many can jump on camera and clash with no prep like that.
Props to LUSH for having an open mind and seeing things in context.... Big ups...
Kano is my favorite grime mc right now. His latest album was amazing
Sway Kano is actually very skilled
That's Wiley MBE nowadays fellas
Round 4 beat is: Jammer - Destruction.
Jammer is also who’s basement this is filmed in, legendary location within the grime scene.
ua-cam.com/video/Roma6WyqXZQ/v-deo.html
I’m not tripping but that’s the dude from top boy right
Yeah both the leads in top boy are from the grime scene!
They are both OG's in the grime scene 😊👌
Big Up From The UK !
This brings back memories.
channel u secondary school
This clash was on the first ever lord of the mics DVD/CD, each MC spits 3 x 16 bars per round. Its not the cameraman (Ratty) ad-libbing kano its the creator of lord of the mics (Jammer) who was also in the same crew as Kano (Nasty Crew) at the time as a producer so thats why he knows his bars, Jammer produced most of the beats in this clash as well. The reason Kano got more time to spit in my opinion is because he was only 16 at the time and Wiley has always enjoyed bringing in new grime MCs even if they were in a rival crew because grime was built on clashing on radio sets. Even though Roll Deep and Nasty were rival crews Wiley and Jammer were friends as producers and spent a lot of studio time together also I think their dads were friends and now they're both in BBK together...btw thats Skepta sitting behind Wiley...R.I.P Esco as well
damn this is classic shit...i thought i was the only nigga who seen this shit when it came out lol..remember mtv did a special on it.....got to give u hella respect for this..wiley is still a beast.godfather of grime-
Avo looks so confused hahaha
Shout out you guys from actually looking at this old skool UK classic!!
Leng
Can’t thank you enough for watching this
This was the birth of grime...lush you hero
Jammer - Destruction is the beat from Round 4. (the location is jammers basement ... the dude who produced the beat and arguably one of the birth places of "grime" hence the walls being signed by nearly every original grime mc) Also the dude in the background is Esco .... (RIP) he was a very respected and well known face in the grime scene and from SlewDem - also Skepta is sitting directly behind Wiley lol
That staircase takes me back... 💜
Check out Earz standing there breathing fire, "are you listening do you hear me" 😉👊🏾💥
This is so great to see, big up Lush One for knowing about the culture
This just show how much UK mc's have improved over the last 15 years compared to US rapper who have heavily declined
This is pretty surreal to see Kano rapping after watching Top Boy
R.i.P esco guy in the back 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
This is ooold school cant believe you guys watched this. Wiley and kano had a set in culture clash 2016/17 along with Taylor gang, mixpak and ukg. Too long for a watch but worth checking it out :)
The name of the riddim at round 4 is called destruction by Jammer
Big up for covering this!
big up for coverig this - i remember when this dropped on dvd haha
the hallway/stairway is in jammer's basement where all the Lord of the Mics clashes occurred - classic material!!!
Watched the whole 45mins. This was dope n brought back crazy memories. Love from LDN
Salute to you guys man. Love from London
Respect for covering this. I don’t think this is a clash that North America will fully understand. The style, flow and lyrics are something that represents uk urban culture. If you are a stranger to that it’s gonna be hard to relate. This clash is also like 13 years old
The idea was you would text in who you thought won, and then the winners would be announced on the next DvD. LOTM 1 came out in 2004, and LOTM 2 came out in 2006. The winners were never revealed in the end.
watch bars in the booth with Kano, on behind the bars with Illmac. that is a fire free
Jheeze absolute classic. RIP Esco
Eskimo is Wiley's sound, The beats he made were mainly under the Eskimo banner - Eskibeat etc. He has his own Grime rave, Eskimo Dance. Wiley is one of the originators. Along with Kano. If you want to Listen to an Original Kano track from back in the day. Check Kano Ice Rink.
Kano isn’t the cameraman. 😅
Damn this is why I fucking love RYD
Hope you can do a watch with Tony D vs Soul now, it just got released, Tony's bow out and Soul catching a body.
glad to see you doing more UK stuff
Maaaad props for doing this.....!!
What the fuck? I know this channel is about watching rap battles but damn, this was not what I expected. Big up though for showing love for the grime scene!
This is abit cringe tbh you need a UK head to watch this and explain it big ups for watching tho but you man will never understand
KION Manchester truth
KION Manchester exactly what I was thinking, and I'm American lol.
Init haha, at least they tried.
Whole new level of respect for this. 2 grime veterans. #Classic
Jammer is the camera man, he was in nasty crew too lol
U NEED TO WATCH "BASHY VS DEMON" OMGGGG THAT WAS FUNNNY BRUHHH!!!
Ghetto vs Bashy is the battle you guys need to watch.
This makes me proud asf #grimekid
Damn Lush is educated lol, think I got a new respect for him
Lmfao @ the battle being in a bathroom with Gloryholes in.
This is LOTM by Jammer, Part of Boy Better Know (Skeptas crew) most of the battles were filmed in the basement of his mums house.
Its filmed in jammers basement he's part of bbk with skepta plus the guy in the back is Escobar rip. Lush may of heard of him from a ghetts tune!
As an American, You should do more grime clashes.. even the don't flop on beat battles. I elect Dialect vs Natril
That’s in jammers basement lol
SKEPTA VS DEVILMAN
The guy in the white hat gets it 👍🏾
Big up from the UK
That riddim in round 4 is by Jammer - Destruction
Fuck me can't believe you guys did a lotm clash big up!!
I would appreciate the rapping more if there was no instrumental in the background. The rapping is double-time off beat, which would sound better if there weren't a beat behind it.
Repeating the word was what it was all about back then. I get that you guys are from US and don’t understand it but that was the trend. Shit was fire back than. An artist couldn’t get the crowd hype unless he wheeled back the word at least a couple times
Lush is always so sick on these, so much respect for the UK base.
Skepta vs Devilman
Shout out to these guys putting effort in to understand the culture of grime
You should review some more lord of the mic clashes
I think Kano inspired Quill, but to be fair everyone in the uk scene virtually would look up to both these mcs
Great idea. I'm watching all this shit.
Didn't these guys have a guest verse on Gorillaz Plastic Beach album?
SKEPTA VS DEVILMAN !!!!
Laurence Millar WE WANT SKEPTA VS DEVILMAN PLS BRO
Yes! who ever suggested this is a G
Rd4 is where it's at
RIP ESCO
And its Murkle mans basement.
I know its very unlikely.... But Id love to see Wiley 'Watching' a KTOD or URL battle on here hehe
In his vlad interview Wiley said he made a song with Hollow Da Don, so he must of seen pat vs hollow in London
I dont deny that he watches battling... But to see him on this show would be dope.... Maybe more likely now maybe...? Lets see
I would say that Wiley is better at making songs than actually battling.
U don't pause a clash
this is great
Didn't know lush was educated on dnb and dubstep haha
Frak cool af avo was all what does hits mean thinking they were boxing or someshit 😂 frak all thats their hit songs
Oh
2 min in and im tired of the word "hella"... that said i love these vids
more grime clashes.. Skepta vs Devilman or Scratchy vs Footsie
Wiley isn't freestyling. He's just a terrible writer. Kano bar for bar was the best grime mc.
wiley is a terrible writer? lol what a foolish comment. i'd agree that kano has a better pen but wiley is way ahead of most grime MC's for penmanship
Daft comment. Wiley is arguably top 3 in grime and Ghetts or Trim have the best pen in grime
Yes he was u trippin lol
Nick Carletti Hyams not reading off paper don’t mean he was freestyling?
Jefferies I don’t know what would lead you to make such an odd inference
Skepta vs devilman is the better clash and i feel youre not understanding this its not a battle perspective. Im impressed by lush 1s takes on it tho
Kano. Made in the Manor bro.
Fucking Willy vs Kano
smokey>>.
The flowssss
i made it to 7:27 . sorry i tried to watch this. shout out lush and frak tho
