I was very interested in this video because I have made this skirt once before in a lovely dusty pink linen. I have only worn it once because it didn’t drape well and I had too much fabric around the waistline- both front and back. I tried taking some out with a back seam but it really wasn’t very flattering. I m now inspired to make it in a viscose fabric. Maybe in a smaller size. Thanks for the inspiration. 🌺
Hi Kealy, with the pockets bagging/dropping slightly all I can think of is that maybe the length has stretched out slightly since you have a piece cut across the grains, like you would get stretch if it was cut on the bias. So maybe it could be stay stitched 1st
I am so pleased you did this review Kealy I am all set to go with this make so I have ordered myself some muslin to make a test version initially , I love all your skirts , the waistband is a great idea because that would definately annoy me too . I really enjoy all your podcasts , your positivity is very inspiring and motivating . Thankyou so much for sharing your thoughts !!
Beautiful skirts ❤️. I made my first Donovan skirt in cotton a couple of days ago, and I too found the waistband to be too wide, I also had saggy pockets. I made another yesterday using 1 metre of viscose, I took an inch off the waistband pattern piece, and left off the pockets. I prefer the look and feel of the viscose skirt, it’s more drapey.
@@VoiceofaCreative Can I ask how you do your seams? I overlocked the fabric then sewed them at 5/8 inch. I find that the seams don’t gather the same as the rest of the skirt. Should I sew the seams then overlock the edges together? Thanks in advance.
These skirts are lovely on you. I like how you've paired your tops with the various skirts. Your Artist shirt is wonderful! I recently made an elastic waisted bias cut skirt that had ties in the side seams that come around to the front off center to tie loosely. I like that detail because it helps mask the elastic in the front. I also had a bit of fabric left over and made a sort of tank top and when tucked in to the skirt it becomes a faux dress. I agree with you on using rayon or viscose for this type of skirt. It allows for nice draping and doesn't add bulk to the tummy area. I also like to blouse out my tops a bit in front to cover the elastic band. Would you get the same kind of easy fit if the waistband was flat in front and had elastic only in the back? Do you (or anyone reading this) have suggestions for a pattern like that? Thanks for putting out such great content and for sharing your thoughts as you evaluate your makes.
Denise Dorsey thanks, I haven’t seen any skirt patterns which are flat at the front and elastic at the back. I know quite a few trouser patterns which are like that though. The front skirt would still need to be gathered into the skirt band to allow enough room at the hips, definitely worth looking into. Ahh yes in my early skirts when I first started dress making I added a tie detail to cover up the elastic waist band. I don’t mind it so much now. Thanks for watching ☺️
Voice of a Creative I understand what you are saying. The fabric would still have to be gathered somehow into the waistband. I'm still learning so much!
I haven’t tried wearing a belt, I don’t actually own any. I have tried to wear belts before and they press on my stomach making it very painful. Hence why I wear mainly elasticated skirts and add soft ties to dresses instead. Would definitely emphasise my waist but it isn’t really for me😊
Hi Kealy!! Wonderful vlog.. All your skirts turned out beautifully.. Even loved both cardigans....

Lovely skirts. I like your detailed review, thank you
Thanks 😊

I am inspired to try the donovan skirt pattern now. It's hard to find a nice skirt pattern. Thanks for sharing!
S Pixley yay!! You should totally try it, I love all my versions 😊
Great outfits. Loved the video. Keep them coming 👍
Shirley Smith thanks 😊😊
All your makes are perfection. What a lovely handmade wardrobe you have made. I can imagine you will get loads of wear from these pretty skirts. 😊👌🏼
Thanks so much, yes I’ve worked really hard to make lots of lovely things which go together 😊😊
loved your makes.I think the Lilac skirt would look good with the ties which would cover the seamline in the waistband.
Love the skirts. Great outfit combos too. Thanks
Thanks 😀
Great ideas I will try to make these skirt plans. Thanks
Great! Thanks for watching😊

I did wonder this, i have tried stay stitching. It didn’t do anything to make a difference. I will try again next time 😊
A really comprehensive review Kealy and the skirts look great how you’ve styled them😍❤️
Lynne PRENTICE thanks, glad it was comprehensive 😊

Totally agree, always good when you can make a few adjustments and it makes it much better.

@@elizabethhill8781 I’m not entirely sure what you mean, I usually sew the seam and then then overlock together, or individually.
@@VoiceofaCreative Thank you, I don’t know what I did wrong, I may trim the seams next time. Third time lucky, hopefully

Have you tried wearing a belt with the first two skirts? I think they add a finished look and your waist is small enough to be emphasized.

I thought you were going to include the dress too, since I love it!
I was going to but I didn’t want the video to be too long. I love the dress as well 😊
😀
💟💟💟👌😁😘
The pockets are horrible to work with on this pattern. I just do circle skirts now and follow a pattern from another tutorial
