This week, we visit a modern and masculine home in Bedok North. It’s a 731 square feet resale HDB unit that has been completely gutted and transformed. Homeowner Ming Hui was always on the lookout for one that hasn’t had any renovation done for a long time, as he wanted to build the place entirely to his liking.
The theme of the space is a minimalist monochrome look, and the ending result is a perfect blend of neutral grey and black tones. He had the space converted to just two rooms basically to fit his lifestyle, as he wanted to create a seamless look.
In the living, instead of a regular TV console, it is a built-in cement block that complements the overall minimalist and sleek look of the place. There is also a 4m long kitchen island installed, which doubles up as a place to prep and cook, as well as to dine.
The master bedroom is combined with the existing store, which now accommodates a walk-in wardrobe instead. And to further optimise the space, he also has a platform underneath the bed for additional storage.

Every minimalist styled house/room needs just a few plants and wall art to change the entire dynamic. It really goes a long way especially in a minimalist house because it draws more attention to these things.
Same principle as with anything within the realm of design really. I spend a great deal of time convincing people how powerful simplicity is. It's a hard sell cause non designers always wants to fill up space and occupy in graphic design, interior design, industrial design, UI design etc. It's almost a mandatory exercise to add and not subtract in their world. They have to learn the hard way how visual noise works unless they put their trust in the philosophy of simplicity straight from the getgo. Unless your aiming at maximalisme of course, that done deliberately controlled and conceptualized is something else. To me this guy's style is a little too "cold" but as you mentioned it doesn't take much to warm it up. It's a great canvas of opportunities.
@@Underhills It is amazing how ugly some of the stuff they use to fill the space is lol. Like weird ropes being draped over things or signs with no meaning.

One word - Perfect. Like the long kitchen island as well as the 6 folded glass doors to partition the bedroom and living room. Surely, I like the monochromatic home with a highly clean look. Love to see more of this design.

I also thought about a central island kitchen, but I remember a stove hood smashed that idea because that would block out lighting and look hideous. With his central island kitchen, it doesn't have any stove hood to draw away smoke. So he doesn't do any cooking? I am perplexed how this kitchen could possibly work. Also the video is missing a peek into where the fridge is hiding.

Fixed 4M kitchen island is such a waste of space considering he probably hardly ever uses it to entertain, as he says he is often tired after work.
As he has the dough to spend, I'd have got a smaller lighter one that either folds away or can be pulleyed up to the ceiling when not in use.
He broke down walls to get more space and flow so I'm surprised he deliberately blocked off so much space.
Decent. Most videos that claim to be bachelor houses/apartments etc are FAKE BACHELORS. With you I believe you are a true bachelor. Everything is directed at functionality..
