This song is personal for him. His Aunt committed suicide when he was 4/5 years old. As he got older he asked his mom about how she felt. So this song is about the aftermath of suicide and what we are left to feel afterwards... Wondering if there was something we could have done.
There is a wee bit at the end of the video, it's a voicemail, calling her phone just to hear her voice on her voicemail recording after she died. It's such a touching video 👍😢
Aw dang! What a heavy way to end the video. That literally makes it so much sadder.
That's the saddest part of the video. A lot of time when we lose someone, the only way to hear their voice again is through their voice-mail 😔
@@alfredorojas4243 My partner of 20 years left a message on my answering machine." Please get hold of my kids, I'm getting sicker and sicker by the minute". The following day he passed away. He was 86 years young, and I'm 56. I unplugged the machine and save his last message to me. I miss him so.

For so many of us this is what mental illness looks like... We look and act and seem happy! Deep inside though a storm is brewing and until the storm hits you'd never know we were struggling! Thankfully I was unsuccessful in my attempt and I'm still here 3 years later!! ❤️
For me when my mental state was truly at rock bottom I physically could not pretend to look happy. I became a person i never wanted to be and I was effecting other people by the moods i put off.
it's part of the coping method. We take pride in trying to look alright. if we make everyone laugh, maybe we won't feel so sad... but it only works temporarily.. until we're alone with our own thoughts, and then the hammer falls.
This is one of the most powerful music videos I’ve ever seen. The characters all feel so relatable. It always brings tears to my eyes.
THe song is about his aunt that committed suicide when he was young. And what his mom would have said and others in the family if they had known what they would have said or done differently to save her. It really just hits home that others may seem fine but the battle inside your mind is telling you otherwise. I cry every time I hear this song.
All of Lewis Capaldi songs are incredible. He has an amazing voice that resonates in people's souls. From the first time I ever listened to him, I then listened to him every day. Please can you react to his music video of 'Hold me while you wait'. Its an incredibly beautiful song and full of emotion. The video is filmed in black and white and you can see all the emotion etched on his face as he sings. Forever, Leaving our love behind, Grace and Don't get me wrong are incredible lewis capaldi songs too. Thank you for your great and reaction. I'd love to see more Lewis reactions :)

This song is beautiful and I love how they show the reality of someone dealing with depression because a lot of times people don't realize when someone is depressed. Take me for example, I used to suffer from depression and got into self-harm and when my counselor the school nurse and my mom found out, the thing I remember both my counselor and mom saying was that "I wouldn't have known you felt this way 'cause you don't seem like the type", so the fact that they didn't show her being depressed made the ending hit harder story wise and to fit the lyrics
This song gets me every time 😭 the emotion in his voice and the dawning realisation of what's happened. I heard it in the car the first time and almost ended up crying while driving home

This song is like ethereal. If I need to cry, this song gets the tears flowing every time without fail.
You really get this song. My late husband can still remember the day his Auntie Meeda drowned herself in the River Clyde...he was 5 when this happened and died when he was 68 and the memory of her walking away and turning to stare at him from the end of the road saddened him all those years. He knew something was wrong but he was only a little boy. So sad
How sad for Lewis. It certainly must be an overwhelming song for the loss of his aunt, so sad.

Suffi, I am a new subscriber. I saw Lewis live about a year ago and I can tell you he is genuinely THAT good! Once this pandemic is over and he comes to play near you, do whatever you can to see him! Worth every dime. He sang this before it became a massive hit. It was amazing.

As somebody who has struggled with mental health for years, and have been in the hospital because of it, this hits home. I had two Maine uniformed police officers standing in my living room recently for a wellness check. I get so scared, and mental health is not a joke.

Thanks for this. I am one of those people who don't base a lot on relationships (nothing lasts forever) and falling in and out of love is an everyday thing that doesn't surprise (or involve) me. Life has made me embrace being single and I cherish the "no mess" of being alone.
I thought this song was just another one of those mushy break-up songs.
It turns out it was deeper than that and I would never have realised that if you hadn't reviewed it. I love Lewis Capaldi's voice.....that is why I bought his CD. Maybe I had better listen to the song lyrics closer now.

This song was used on my friends funeral who committed suicide....it was her favorite song. She would've been my cousin in law if she were around. I miss her.

The sad thing is...the first time I ever heard this song involved someone dressed up in a turtle costume singing the hell out of it... and after that I had too look up the actual song
I think it's basically her dealing with deep depression but nobody knew about it cuz she was hiding? Disguising it? N so she ultimately committed suicide

The video is so happy but the song is not because a lot of times with depression or mental illness we just fake being great so that way we don't have to deal with the demons inside or our issues. So she may be happy in the moment but in reality depression always wins.
