Oh man, someone in Sparks fangroup talked about how this was cringey at every show he witnessed (apparently, the East Coast were not fans of Sparks' shenanigans). And I'm just cackling. This is an absolutely top-notch piece of theater.
Another comment: I watched the recent documentary on Sparks, one thing no one can deny , they worked HARD to entertain their fans. So nice to see the love and adulation the fans gave back.
I saw this year's ago and thought "Wow! Who are these guys?" Always on the peripheral of my musical taste. So glad that so many fans are posting to UA-cam so we can all learn and appreciate the Genius of Sparks.
@@annabackman3028 Russell is soo sexy -we shouldve been seeing them in manchester this year but covid put paid to that -so seeing them next year instead
On this day in 1982 {August 28th} Sparks performed "I Predict" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand... Three months earlier on May 15th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #60 and spent 7 weeks on the Top 100... The group was formed by the brothers Ron and Russell Mael... On May 15th, 1982 they also performed the song on the NBC-TV program "Saturday Night Live"... R.I.P. Mr. Clark...
Peaked at No. 60 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June of 1982. Great, highly bizarre and wacky fun New Wave song. From their, “Angst in My Pants” album. An Atlantic Records release.
The lyrics are absolutely as crazy as some people expect from Sparks all the time, but the most part of their lyrics are very serious, with serious topics, only covered in the extremely well used language and choice of words Ron (and Russell) uses. Also, as he has said several times, they disguise the seriousness with a jolly melody. However, if you look deep into it you can interpret a serious side, which is possible everywhere if you put some effort in it, BUT THIS is crazy, and I LOVE IT🤩😘💖💖💖💖💖 ("Cold beer and pretzels take care of cancer" 😂 Oh, I wish they did... 🙄😢 I just wonder how I had got two of my dogs to drink that beer? Some friends and relatives, on the other side, the pretzels must have been the missing part in treatment. 😞 Anyway, the lyrics are hilarious 😂😂😂)
This entire show was on youtube in very good quality. I think the problem was that the opening segment showed a woman getting ready and traveling to the theater, but there segment played Romeo Void "Never Say Never" in the background and it got removed because of copyright infringement.
This is the most 80’s thing I’ve ever seen.
The eighties is an era that is so visually ugly you just gotta love it 😂😂😂!!
O m g, what kind of clothes we wore 😅😬🥰😂

I’m from the east coast and love Sparks🤷🏻♀️
One of the reasons I left those stupid groups overrun with those fucked in the head freaks.
I love how Russell never bats and eyelid at any of Ron’s antics on stage.

They are both so adorable 😍

Ron Mael is hotter than lava 🥰
The crowd was abit too quick to help Ron get his clothes off but he is a trouper and carried on with his striptease.

Russell's voice very strong on this song.

Brilliant band!!!
One day Russell will find a tailor who can make a suit in his size! Keep on rocking. Will see Ron & Russell live this month (UK)
Perhaps he shared wardrobe with Don Johnson's charactar Sonny Crockett of Miami Vice? 🤔
😂😂😂 The eighties fashion...
Long live the Big Suit!!!
David Byrne copied Russell
David Byrne copied him for "Stop Making Sense" movie
Can't get over the power of his voice!!
Grandissimi ❤❤❤
I wonder if anyone still has that belt that Ron threw into the crowd

L.A.”s Very Own, Love Living In New Wave City!
You can find the video on the mtv site. I think it was deleted from youtube because of a copyright claim by WMG
Who wore a big, white suit first? Russell Mael or David Byrne?
Well, David Byrne's (even more supersized) suit got famous one year after this, but I have no idea how long he'd been using it before
2 people who voted this down are Bieber fans :(
Do you have the original source VHS for this legendary concert? I'd love to transfer it on my equipment for an ultra HQ YT upload.
