I welcome all dislikes coming my way, please do it because I know there's hardly anyone who studies the Bible accurately and writes songs accordingly these days. Now I know Brandon is joking but Jesus is the Rock so lets not blaspheme. And is it so hard to give a little respect to The Blind Boys Of Alabama who first wrote Honey In The Rock in 1950 or did you not know that? I know the lyrics are different but still Romans 13:7 says give respect to whom respect is owed.. And so I end with this context complaint. Psalm 81 talks about the sad fact that God's people would not listen to His voice which led to sad consequences; but yet God would not give up on them. A genuine covenant participation would lead them to victory over their enemies. And so although those enemies hated God they would soon cringe toward God in submission and all this IF ONLY Israel would listen to God's voice then He would bless them with the fruitfulness of the finest of the wheat and the honey from the rock.
Ok so I stand corrected I did find an earlier version of Honey In The Rock from The Carter Family (pre Johnny Cash) and their version came out in 1937.. I know some may think I'm being legalistic in my earlier comment but I'm really not. Using things in the CORRECT CONTEXT is very important. Take these scripture verses for instance (John 6:54 But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day.)
(John 14:13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.) So what if I wrote a song just based on these verses alone? Surely someone could write a Christian metal song that sounds cannibalistic right? Or even a misleading song about asking the Father "anything" in His name like a new car or even a new job in which we all know that both song ideas are out of context.
