Mike White, creator of Enlightened and writer of School of Rock, talks about writing the HBO show Enlightened. Moderated by Winnie Holzman and Robin Schiff.
Any interview with Mike White is incredible.... he's incapable of "faking" anything, as in his writing. It's very gratifying to see someone finally get the recognition they deserve for being so unswerving in his values and mission. The definition of "integrity"!
@@leif1075 On the left, pretentious, over-caffeinated alpha- "Jackie from Roseanne." She is more interested in the questions she is asking and how she is asking them than the guest or his answers. On the right, genuinely sweet but completely off-base beta- "Gramma Clairvoyant." She thinks she sees more than the rest of us because no one has ever had the heart to tell her she's wrong. The more she tries to explain the truth about something, the less coherent it gets. Both are oblivious to their compulsive interruption's frequency and effect. Mike is so kind and patient that he gets stomped on from both sides, as he teeters back and forth between their guest and their victim. This mix creates a perfect cringe-comedy effect.
He is so much like Woody Allen, but Woody Allen would not be tolerant to interviewers . Nervous and projected humility, but inside…sharp as steel, confident and a wit that isn’t as over explained. Different…but very similar.
