Very nice area, I retired as a Federal Law Enforcement Agent in 2013, I went back home to my hometown on the South Jersey Shore and found that it had changed so much, It sure has broken my heart to see the area just ruined. I’m watching this because I am a retired LEO in California and looking where to move. I am and have always been a conservative and I can’t take California anymore. I’m in a small Northern California town but even up north has been ruined. I am taking my red vote, selling my house and land and moving somewhere in Idaho where I can buy a minimum of 20 acres and live in peace. I just need to figure out what part of Idaho and before someone says as a Californian I should stay out let me just say you need my red vote to offset a lefties vote who was moved there after ruining their home state. 👍

Hey Nick I hear you. The only downfall I can see is that in the last year, corresponding to the pandemic is that homes and rentals have gotten large price increases due to demand out here. Have a look on Zillow or rentals.com. See if it still fits your needs. You might check out Rathdrum or spirit lake also as prices seem a little more affordable compared to Cda. Very nice trip down memory lane. Lived in Sandpoint for 30 years, but have been gone for 10 years now. So many changes, but so much the same. Wish you would have gone on the west side of town also though.
Thanks for the comment. It’s changing no doubt but still a very beautiful place. I’ll film the west side and put a video up of it. Let me know if you want anything in particular.
Thank you. I tried to reply elsewhere, but it didn't go through. If possible it would be nice to see coming in the Dover Hwy to see what has grown that way, and maybe North Division, & Pine Street, ?
I currently flip for a realtor in Boise but interested in the need for housing restoration or if there is a need for handymen up there in Sandpoint. Thanks
Hi Hayden There is a shortage of all tradesmen in general up here right now. But there is also a supply constraint. Most flippers I know are having a real difficult time finding inventory or at least inventory they can make money on because everybody’s pricing their stuff at top dollar right now and there’s not a lot of houses on the market up here it’s kind of similar to Boise so you might want to investigate the house flipper guys or guys that buy houses cash they seem to have gone quiet in the last year or so. It’s extremely difficult to find inventory. If you need any help just reach out. I speak with friends down in Boise at our house flippers and they say that’s gotten extremely tough down there I think in general it’s getting tough all over Idaho
@@Mr-Idaho I appreciate the quick reply. My heart isn't set on flipping it's just what I do but I'm more than happy slimming down to a more handyman business to live in a smaller quieter City
Thank you for giving us such a thorough and realistic view of the whole town of Sandpoint. I am considering moving here from south Florida. I want to live in a nice smaller town in/near the mountains in the NW, and in another red state! I would love to buy a home on 5 acres or more if I can afford it and get it set up for off grid living. Not sure what prices are there yet. Since it's voted the best small town in America I was expecting it to be more like a Whitefish, Montana, Galena, Illinois, Park City, Utah or Jackson Hole, Wyoming. No offense intended, but there is nothing fancy about it - it's not really remodeled, quaint, charming nor seems to have any nice shops. That's a little disappointing. But....the fact that it clearly is "the cleanest city in the country", that alone makes me want to move there. That says a lot about the people there. They must still have some good values, respect and care for themselves and others, and some common courtesy and decency left! How refreshing that is! And, next to no crime?? Wow. I'm sold. I'd rather be around nice people with decent values any day than being around fancy! Thank you. ;)
No offense as this is quintessential Idaho. It’s not trying to be anything other than a great place for good people and their families. The Sun Valley lifestyle is here, but not all the movie stars(yet) and associated items that those ares have. Housing costs are beginning to become an issue though. Sandpoint is a true hidden gem that is starting to be discovered. Up until now it has kept all its small town attributes. I can’t speak to the future, but it currently, really is a beautiful place with fantastic neighbors. It’s worth a visit in person to see if it fits your needs.

@@Mr-Idaho Hello and thank you very much! I have lived in the L.A. and Santa Monica area my entire life and was looking for a change and to get into activities like skiing and off road motorcycle riding. Thanks again!
That’s a tough one it’s changing daily due to the heavy demand were seeing of out-of-state buyers coming into Idaho put in the Boise area it’s around $340,000 median. In the north Idaho area Coeur d’alene it’s about 380,000 and in Bonner it’s about 320 k. And all rising. It’s getting thought for first time buyers and fixed income folks to afford a home.

Honestly in all due respect to anyone that might take this the wrong way, I'm a 4th generation native in Colorado, with all the newcomers from the west coast I no longer recognize this state. In no time we went from a red state ranked amongst the best economy, affordable housing and jobs to just took the bottom spot out of all states. Newcomers voted the same way they did in California, in EVERY state office, unchecked craziness. My question is from my research Sandpoint is the opposite from what my state has become, this is what we're looking for in a place to relocate, can you elaborate? Any links to your listings? I'm understanding Boise might be heading the way of Denver?? Your insight would be appreciated.
Hello Tim, I dont think I am qualified to answer this for you fully as my point of view is only from my personal experiences. But you can look at civic associations and political enrollments for the area. I personally have always found Sandpoint to be a little more “Liberal “ leaning than other areas of North Idaho. Bearing in mind it is a tourist town and an “artist” type of town environment. CDA seems to be slowly moving this direction also more as of late. But again, these are my personal observations. I think any of the larger towns will have a more diverse type of community due to the influx of people from other areas. If you are looking for areas that lean toward conservative, in my view these tend to be in the more rural out of town communities. Shoot me an email tomolphie@gmail.com and I would be glad to send you some listings.
Wow, great video Tommy, I am from New York (not the city) and am in college for Law Enforcement and emergency management. Been thinking of moving to Bonner County after I graduate. I want to move far out to a nice relaxing place where I can work and bring my knowledge of community policing and Emergency Management with me. What would it be like for me, an outsider moving in? Would I be welcomed into the community?
Hello Richman, Idaho is very welcoming. Especially to New Yorkers. Anytime I meet someone new they inevitably ask wher I’m from due to the accent. And once I say New York. They always follow up with. It doesn't matter what tommy says truth be told most of us in north idaho tolerate out of state ppl.. only as we have to.. I have been here all my life and it seems ppl come here and think it's a city.. they drive like crap don't obey proper laws and have no actual regard for how we live.. can't do the posted speed limits and make ppl like me have a hard time not removing them from the road.. I trust u to make the right choice as to stay in your city where u understand your place..
TOMMY... Cleanest city in the USA? Well Montana disagrees with you but, We don't want that getting around , New Yorkers and Californians should indeed go to Idaho instead of Montana. LOL!
It is a nice place to visit, but after living there for 20 plus years, I am glad to be away from it. Sandpoint is a resort town, it is a right to work state, which means they have lots of part time workers and no full time, If you do not come in with your own business, be aware that you may be working 2 to 3 jobs to make ends meet. The wonderful blue sky is not there at peak summer, because farmers down south burn their fields only when the winds are going up towards Sandpoint. Both CDA and Post Falls have laws that they will be fined if the smoke fills their sky's.
My daughter and family moved last month to Sagle and love it. I live in S. Calif. Next spring while still living and working in Ca. I plan on buying 20 acres in S. Boundary County. I will probably move to my property next fall I was born in Queens N.Y. and grew up on Long Island

Please let me know if you need any info, I’d be glad to send you any info on all matters including local life. My folks are both from Brooklyn.. I have been to queens many times to visits Aunts, etc. Kinda miss it sometimes!
Do you think I would be shamed by locals if I moved there? I'm from the LA area. I'm almost split politically and lean more libertarian. I vote Republican now because California is not what it was even 20 years ago thanks to, at least in part, an influx of Identitarian liberals moving in along with conservatives moving out. It has become a one party state. I can't say that I would vote Republican on everything in Idaho, but again I'm one of the only conservative-leaning students at my school. I guess I'm just worried that in some local or state election in some circumstance, I might vote for a Democrat if I happen to like that individual better. I worry that I'd have to keep this a secret if anybody asked since that would fall right into the California stereotype. Sorry for the long message, either way thanks for the video! It looks awesome up there.
Hello Bill. I actually consider my self Conservative Libertarian. I have never voted Democrat ( I object to most of their policies, some I see value in but can’t get behind the party politics at all) but I also haven’t always voted Republican( if I didn’t think the candidate earned my vote). In my opinion there will always be some one who disagrees with you, ( especially these days) Every Year I visit the booths for the Party systems at the state fair. I visit both as I like to be well rounded with my thoughts and ideas. No one ever bothered me going into either booth. I have been here 25 years. My thought is this. If you dont get into to other peoples business that’s not your concern and you dont try to change what you find when you get here you will fit in fine. If you run contrary to those opinions you might run into obstacles. But Idaho and its people are really welcoming. I can’t tell you how many times I have been helped by strangers , looking for no reward other than the satisfaction of a good deed. It has been countless cases of pay it forward since I moved here. My family and I love it. Remember. Dont talk religion and politics and you’ll be fine.. You may be a little bored but there is always plenty of outdoor activities to fill your time instead.
@@NB-sy5gb Trust me, if the Democrats win a statewide election in Idaho, it would scare me into voting straight Republican. California went from a swing state to the most Democrat leaning one in only 30 years time. As recently as 2004, the presidential race was won by less than 10%! I don't want to see that happen in Idaho.
Grow up in north Idaho. Due to California people moving in raising prices and trying to change laws . We moved out. Sandpoint isn't the same anymore. Too many cars to many people
Aloha Tommie. I spent 11+ years in Sandpoint starting in '76. Had 3 boys and a daughter at home in town. One could tell the kind of firewood they burned as they walked past you in CONNIES CAFE. My 1st meal I had there made me laugh. The waitress asked me where I was from. I said I had just got off the GREYHOUND BUS after a 5 day bus ride up from the south. She bristled, and remarked....great another Californian. She was relieved when I said.... No, "the south" as in Tampa, Florida south. I was stunned. Sure enough I came upon several stories of people that were turned off "by them no good Californians". Seems they had money in their pockets to easily buy 20 acres of prime, beautiful land the locals had a hard time even living on. Back then Sandpoint had like 4,100 population. Been here in Kailua-Kona for the last 33 yrs. If I ever went back to the mainland it would be to Sandpoint and Bonner County. Not for their politics. Not for their religion. For the natural beauty and sensible people that were there. I almost saw my house that we built. I could walk to my work at the County Courthouse as you turn onto 1st Street from the long bridge. A 5min. Walk at the most. 1st time I've seen any live drive through of it all. Bonner Mall was new in the say '83 era. Mahalo for the memories.
Fantastic memories Bill. You have a great view of it all! Thanks for the comments and your perspective. They are very insightful as to Sandpoint back in the day. Please let me know if there is any other items you would like me to film. And enjoy the paradise you live in now. All my best! Tommy
Ah, wow. I may have been thru Sandpoint a thousand times from CDA going skiing, fishing in Montana and beyond, or north to Canada. I love Sandpoint. Your video is useless showing this wonderful town. I am so disappointed.
I’m sorry you didn’t like it. It was a simple drive along , trying to show some of it. I would love suggestions on what or where I should film so that others may see it’s great beauty .
Sorry, but I get annoyed with people advertising these once pristine small towns as “cleanest” and “best place to live.” Then out of staters, like yourself, move here in droves, raise prices and bring with you all the bs that makes your current state a “dirty” place to live.

Maybe I will see you to buy or rent in a years time!
I look forward to it. Good luck with school. Stay healthy. Thanks for watching
Hey Tommy, take your ass back to NY and Sand Point can be clean again.
TOMMY... Cleanest city in the USA? Well Montana disagrees with you but, We don't want that getting around , New Yorkers and Californians should indeed go to Idaho instead of Montana. LOL!
Dan, I agree. Montana is stunning and clean and great people! If my wife would go I’d be there! Ps I won’t tell anyone!
@@Mr-Idaho Okay, Tommy it's a deal ,You and your Wife are nice people and would be welcome but, Shhhh! LOL!
we don't want this place to turn into California
Wish I would have moved there from New Jersey instead of moving to Florida.
There is always another day! good luck to you.. Ps buddy love was a great one!
whats wrong with Florida may I ask?? THinking of moving there
@@buddylove2603 whats up with medical care??
@@mimi7914 My opinion is that it's harder to find quality doctors here, but that may be all over the country now.
What is SP life like, post CWC?
A great place to live. Safe. And low population. And a lot of self sufficient folks
It wasn't that way very many years ago
AnnaMay That’s great stuff, I’m sure they love it. Boundary is beautiful. Nice people also.
Sandpoint is a refuge from the Democrat party! If you bring California politics here, there will be nowhere to run to when they destroy our city!
You are correct, we do not want you coming here.
@@kookietherapy9398 Thanks for being honest.
Back then Sandpoint had like 4,100
population.
I really liked it. Oh well.
Thanks for watching
Sorry, but I get annoyed with people advertising these once pristine small towns as “cleanest” and “best place to live.” Then out of staters, like yourself, move here in droves, raise prices and bring with you all the bs that makes your current state a “dirty” place to live.
Gee I wonder why it's so clean. Hmmm. What could it be? We're not allowed to say why.
I’m not sure why but just remember diversity is a strength.
go home and stay away
Beautiful! Would love to move there... seems housing prices have just skyrocketed, people bailing from Democrat ran states
Thanks. Prices are up , but there are still some home. The Silver valley is still somewhat reasonable.
