    So to the people being disappointed, I too ALMOST felt underwhelmed until I realized something important. This song has 5/6 songs dedicated to his late father. This album wasn’t only for us, but for him and Rory. This was his coping mechanism and tbh I loved the album more when I thought that. These are songs that his father would probably have loved, hence the less heavy.

    • @drew-alexander

      this is the perspective a lot of folks need to go into this album with. This really was what Rory needed to do to help cope with his Father's passing and I find beauty in that. It also helps that despite the fact that these are songs that are not as heavy or guitar driven, that they are still fantastically written, performed, and mixed/mastered.

    Genuine emotional masterpiece, and I don’t use that word lightly. I got to talk to the guys at a meet and greet during their small US tour a little over a month ago, and the way Rory described the paradoxical roller coaster of emotions of his father’s death and daughter’s birth happening pretty much back to back, mixing together grief and joy in such a profound way, is translated so insanely well into this album (Parallel into Afterglow is just phenomenal). I don’t care at all that this album isn’t “heavy”; it’s exactly what it needed to be to convey these emotions. Beyond moving.

      Is not really the lack of heaviness, its the fact that the synth/electro elements are so present, that it left out pretty much all the other instruments, I even wonder if the other guys had fun recording this aside from Rory.

They're still metalcore, they blended genres with edm and grunge but the entire album hits like a truck because they use every genre and mash them together. I just accept it's not the album I wanted, but the album the band needed, so it doesn't matter, all power to them, I hope their next record will be more up my alley and if it isn't that's okay, I got other bands to listen to and hope Dayseeker are successful with what they do

    The only issue I have with this album, and I think everyone else is noticing it too but perhaps can't put a finger on it, is that they've allowed their side projects "Hurtwave" and "Sightings" to bleed into Dayseeker proper. This could easily be a Hurtwave/Sightings album, and it would be incredible (not sure why they didn't just release the album as such). But as a Dayseeker album, well, it just isn't.
    In short, it's mislabeled & there's a disconnect... particularly given how they've always kept continuity with their albums, both in the sound and the narratives within the lyrics (e.g. Sleep in the Sea Pt. I > II, What It Means to be Defeated > The Nail in Our Coffin, The Home We Built > The World was Quiet, and much more).

    This album is a masterpiece. The emotion in every word Rory sings, the lyrics are amazing, there were multiple points in this album that destroy the feels. Paper Heart brought so much emotion, Without Me is still just incredible in every single way and hits like its the first listen...and don't get me started on Parallel, made me cry on my first few listens. This is in contention for my AOTY, at bare minimum it's top 3

      Highly disagree, I think Bad Omens did a much better job blending genres than this album does. Bad Omens did a lot of weirdly experimental things and mixed it with metalcore, this album is a Hurtwave album and the 4 singles are the only thing on it that resemble anything even remotely close to Dayseeker.
      The album doesn't NEED to be metal, but comparing it to TDOPOM doesn't make sense considering that album was genre bending metal constantly, this is synth-pop from front to back. They are completely different genres and two different types of albums. It's good in a completely different way.

    • @MoskauProductions
      @MoskauProductions 2 роки тому +2

      @@psrevoke8343 To make myself clear I’m talking about rivaling TDOPOM in terms of album of the year. Both albums have God tier production with relatable lyricism. I agree they are different but Dark Sun does have heavy Metalcore elements in songs like Neon Grave and Dreamstate. I think blending the Hurtwave side project with Dayseeker was on purpose because Rory has said in the past he wanted to take Dayseeker in a more pop direction. But it’s your opinion which I respect. You don’t have to like what I say but I think these two albums rival each other because they each provide something the other album doesn’t. I honestly wanted more pop from Dayseeker since their Metalcore stuff, while good, doesn’t really appeal to me as well as other bands. • @psrevoke8343
      @psrevoke8343 2 роки тому

      I'm not upset that it isn't heavy, I'm upset because of the lack of diversity and the blending together of songs. The album would be a below average Hurtwave album in my opinion too, because that's what this should have been. It's incredibly boring to listen to for a lot of people. Crying While You're Dancing is incredible, and it isn't heavy in the slightest. It has instruments, it has peak points in the song, it has low points that contrast it, it has a chorus that blasts out of the calm melody beforehand, it has a solo, it is constantly progressing.
      In my opinion, the non singles do none of that and instead opt for a lull of sorts, a very calm and sleepy vibe and they all sound identical. If they took the Bad Omens route and went all in on blending metalcore with this synth-pop sound, we would have gotten something really unique. This is just Hurtwave. That's my problem. The lyricism is great but it can't carry an entire album alone.

      @@psrevoke8343 word I can respect that. I’m just choosing to believe this is a 1-off sound for the album due to the tragedy, and it’ll be back to more of a blended sound in projects down the road

    • @psrevoke8343
      @psrevoke8343 2 роки тому +1

      @@brent_004 yeah we'll see, I think Rory was talking about blending the two projects (Hurtwave & Dayseeker) because he wanted to go for a more pop oriented approach, so it may not come back unless they all decide against it after this release.
      Regardless, all it really needs is a bit more energy and I'm on board. I don't need breakdowns or screaming, I just want more of what they did with the singles. Either way I do respect the work they put into this album and I see why people like it, it's just not entirely aimed at their metalcore audience.

    I can understand the disappointment, especially when you look at some of their previous songs, but Rory's voice is so good and fit so well to this kind of songs + the ambient that I think it's no big deal, and we got nice groovy songs as Without Me, Neon Grave or Dreamstate!

    I have to say on my first listen through I was a bit disappointed, I think the singles were pretty misleading as to the sound of the rest of the album and I hate when bands do that cuz it seems like they're trying to soften the blow of their change in sound. But nonetheless, I've been coming back to different tracks on the album all day and I can say it's already growing on me.
