AdrenalineJunkieProd I've done it with oil before but not grease My dad was a mechanic at a paper mill as my brother is one now and I've worked around them my whole as well My brother and I were thought as kids to always work smarter not harder and this right here is smarter 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I need HELP! Just got my first utv. Been sitting for a couple years. It will free roll some but when in gear and under power it seems as if somethings stuck. Almost like a stuck park brake.. but immediately after getting out of the fuel it will roll back the other way freely if ur on the least bit of incline. I’m learning about these belt driven systems a little but can the clutches act stuck like that because they are only engaged only if given a certain amount of rpm’s? Cause it seem much worse in reverse. Almost have to floor it to get it move at all but at an idle it will freewheel roll. I’m worried I may have much bigger issues than expected. Thanks ANYONE for any input!
I know this video is 5 years old but man, you saved me a lot of headache. 2010 Polaris Ranger 800 that had never had the primary off it. I'd been fighting with this thing for days. I lifted the machine a little, pumped the hole with gear oil, lubed the threads with grease, and sent her home with the impact. It came right off. Thanks so much.

Michael Sabo your welcome man. Ya, it feels like you’re gonna break it when you are doing it. It’s sketchy. But it’s really the only way. Taper fits sure do work! Lol. Glad the video helped you out.
I am a mechanic of many years and I struggled to get the inner clutch of my outlander. Used your method it came off with a bang, I owe you a drink from the UK
Hey Peter!! Glad to hear this old school snowmobile trick helped you. I haven’t tried it but multiple people also have told me you can use soft toasty bread instead of grease. On smaller machines like ATVs and Snowmobiles I know people will tip them over and use water also. However, I feel grease usually works better for this application and it’s much easier to clean out then bread I’m guessing. If I ever make it over the pond to your neck of the woods I’ll take you up on your beer offer 😉😉 🍻
This trick worked for me on a CFMoto ZForce 950/1000 Sport with a CVT Trailboc clutch that wouldn't come off with the clutch removing tool. I had already greased the threads, so I just added some oil until it started dripping out the hole, then quickly fed in the clutch removal tool and used an impact wrench and it popped of. Not as violently as in the video - it only jumped off the tapered shaft about an inch or so. Big thanks for making the video!
LOL! Ya, may have miss judged that one... don't know if I'll survive to see my goal. Ya, it's an old snowmobile trick, that's originally where I learned it too. Million views or not, as long as it helps some people out of a jam I'm happy!
100% works. I used a strip of electrical tape to cover 90% of the hole, squirted engine oil in the hole. Used Teflon tape on the removal tool (puller). Quickly inserted the puller, threaded in the puller as fast as I could, then pulsed the impact and after about 9-10 pulses, it literally POPS off. AMAZED!!!!! Thank you!!!!!
Wow, great video! Worked great on my 2006 Polaris snowmobile. I bent the service tool, then I tried oil and Teflon tape with no success. I pumped it full of grease, wrapped the threads in tape, gave it a few hits with the impact and it worked!
Tried this with just the grease and it came off smoothly, after using just the puller and banging on it nothing seemed to work.I just laughed at how easily it came off lol. This really works!
well i just had the removal problem tryed all the trick another tuber described but did not work but i watched youre video and followed youre trick using rear end oil 90w and it popped right off thank you worked perfectly
Just did this to a new 450 cause I'm trying to water proof the case. You would think a new machine it would pop off easy. This method worked like a charm and sure is exciting when it finally pops off.
Thanks man, stoked you like the Channel! I really hope we can get a Teryx out with us this season. I've been wanting to ride with a Teryx for ages. I've always been a fan of the Teryx. My buddy has a first gen Teryx, it was one of the first side by sides I ever got to play with.
I wish I would of found this before. But now I know for future jobs? Science does rule! Eugene Oregon 👍🏾 FYI- I did get mine off with impact and tapping with my 2lbs brass hammer. But definitely going this route in the future. I had to partially rethread the CS because the puller did some damage. Be careful and I recommend this route if it doesn’t want to come off.
Glad it worked man!! I spray penetrating lube in it, then blow it out with air, I cover the hole with a rag so it doesn't spray in my face and mostly gets into the rag. I repeat that a few times till most is out. Then I Usually do a few rounds with brake clean and it does a quick job cleaning like 95% of it out of there. If a tiny bit remains in the treads its ok.
LOL " that hit me in the face!! Right in the face!"!!! LOLGlad you didnt get hurt and that was awesome!!! I've heard of that being done but never actually seen it that was awesome thank you for that vid Julian
Just about any liquid will work. Water is hard to get to stay in there unless you lean the machine, which isn't always an option on a larger machine or if the machine is on a hoist. That's why I used grease and oil this time.
Thank you very much for this video, my clutch was really stuck today, i tried knocking and heating and nothing helped, but your method worked like a charm, may i just suggest as an upgrade something i did, i tied the clutch with zip ties to the upper frame so it wont just pop up at me or at the floor.
Glad the video helped. I was being silly here. Like others have mentioned a good way to prevent the clutch from launching is to leave the belt on over the secondary. Happy you got your clutch off!!
I'm definitely going to try this tomorrow nothing to loose, its soaking in blaster now with pressure on it from the tool, was hoping it'll be laying on the floor when I go to the shop tomorrow
I broke a crank shaft one time by using an impact gun. Note for newbies.. When you put it back on. Rub some dielectric grease on the tapper..it'll keep it from rusting together.
Ya, breaking the crank is a possibility. However, options are very limited in this scenario and it's a risk you need to take. Luckily it's very very rare that the crank actually breaks. The press fit on the taper is so tight that even if you grease it I doubt there will be much grease left after you torque it down. With that being said it's still not a bad idea to do that. I did.
I tried using ATF/axle grease and I'm afraid to send it any harder. I bent the last puller trying the same method. Considering leaving the atf/grease under compression for a couple days.
For especially stubborn clutches, put the oil/grease/ATF and compress the oil with the removal tool. Let it sit overnight and try sending it home the following day.
The Knary Agency, hey! Glad you liked the video. In regards to the beadlocks. You need to diagnose why. The bolts should not be loosening. If they are there is an underlying problem. Generally the most common way beadlocks are damaged is when people over tighten the bolts securing the beadlock ring. Once you damage those threads there isn’t much you can really do. It isn’t unusual that with time some of the bolts may loosen a bit but it shouldn’t be a ongoing and frequent issue. Will a thread locking agent fix the issue? Possibly. But it won’t “fix” it, it will mask it. If you use a medium strength locking agent (blue) then as long as the threads aren’t too bad it could prevent them from loosening out but it may lead to issues down the line trying to remove them. However, if you want to get another season out of your wheels then ya, that might be a solution. The truth is you shouldn’t need to use a locking agent. If you do then there is something wrong with the fasteners/threads. It all depends on what your comfortable with doing. You could even use red permanent locking agent if you just want to get one more use out of the wheels. Like if you got new tires and just wanted to mount them and accept that when you damage a rim/tire or wear them out you will need to replace the rims. Why people run into this is because it’s easy to over tighten the small bolts. Usually the bolts are stainless and the rims are a soft aluminum so it’s easy to chew up the threads with the harder bolts. Hope that offers some insight.
The Knary Agency I would contact the wheel company and ask them if they have experienced this issue in the past and what they have done to remedy it. You could try using green thread locker and seeing if that keeps them in place. It’s basically an anti vibration formula made for smaller fasteners. It shouldn’t be too hard to get them out later when you need to disassemble. I’d try that before I used blue thread locker. Might be all you need.
Hey guys! Thanks for the support on instagram.. That was our boy Nick who wrecked that XX.. We've actually busted up a few of em... If you're still lookin for an update we did a walk around with the machine the day after the wreck... We're noobs so feel free to use the video for your update!
Hey man, I'll check it out this week and I'll check out some of your other videos too! I really want to try out an XX this spring/summer. That video of the roll was crazy, the Wildcat held up awesome though! I was super impressed. I'll leave ya a comment on your videos when I check them out this week. Thanks for dropping me a line!
@@AdrenalineJunkieProd Hell yeah brother! Go ahead and post a clip for your update if you want, just give a shout out if you wouldn't mind... Like I say we're noobs.. That particular XX is in our roll video and then in our XX Highlights vid after Nick got it back up and rollin.. He's a savage for sure!
You need a special socket from the dealer or a speciality tool supplier. Then you need a clutch holding tool that you clamp in a vice. It locks into the cooling veins on the back of the clutch to hold it from moving and distribute the load because the nut is toques around 300ft/lbs. You can make your own clutch holding fixture out of wood or metal if you are handy. The slider socket should be purchased.
Excelente llevaba varios días intentando, me funcionó con un tornillo normal sin necesidad del extractor, la sola presión lo despego, tener cuidado cuando suelta, no hacerce afrente sale disparado
There are a few good videos like this showing that trick. I love your enthusiasm and creativity! However I've been trying this trick plus others shown on UA-cam and mine still has not come off of a EZGO Marathon. 🤔 After letting the thing soak in oil and even hitting it with the hammer on the backside of the clutch it did not budge. After that I tried Teflon tape on the puller threads and the thing still won't come off using a custom built impact wrench for race cars! 🤣 At this point I'm open to other ideas even heating the thing with a torch.
If you load it full of grease and oil and have a strong enough impact it should work. Could your clutch shaft be bent? I’ve heard of people using bread even lol. That sucks it won’t come off. In wish I had a solution for you. I know it’s frustrating.
Yup. Just put it on straight and then snug it up before torquing it down. It's a tapered shaft so it will sell position itself once you start tightening it up.
I use this trick all the time but I just wrap the threads of the puller with Teflon tape to make a seal then tip the machine up and dump some water in the hole. Same results with no clean up since the water just evaporates.
Volkz VLOGS Soap! BREAD!! Lol! Realistically anything soft like that would work I guess. I guess my engine oil and grease was a boring choice, lol. Getting the bread out would be really hard after because the hole is so deep. You’d have to soak it and blow it out. Bread sounds like a hippie thing I’d use on my VW bus, lol. Thanks for sharing man, that’s super interesting. Has anyone else used any other weird substances? Lol. Most people probably just use water. Booooring 😂😉😉
Make sure you impact gun is strong. Make sure there is enough grease in there. Once you have the puller to the point it won’t go anymore try hitting the puller on the sides with a hammer. Don’t go crazy but give. A few good whacks. Back it out and try again. Some people say if it’s really hard it sometimes helps to drive the machine and get the clutches nice and hot and then try. Sometimes they can be really on there good.
Hey, no snow here actually. Been pretty mild. I know, sorry for the lack of content. Just been really swamped with the less exciting things in life lately. I run the channel on my own so when I get busy with other stuff it's hard to keep up. Almost done a new video, should be up in a few days.
AdrenalineJunkieProd i hear ya it has been the same here as well mostly rain and mild temps I’m not complaining that’s for sure but i am hoping for at least 1-2 good snow rides this year b4 winter is over.
Same, I would like to get a few good snow rides under my belt too. Not that I've had much time to ride lately. We will see what we get in the next few weeks. You never know, late January into February has been snowy in the past..... so we will see.
AdrenalineJunkieProd sayn possibly some snow here later this week a few inches would make for some perfect riding conditions for us if you got nothing to do check my channel out 👍
As your tapping it I'm like man just use grease lol. A boss of mine taught me that about 15 years ago and I was like that is NOT going to work. Yea...we both know who was wrong lol A guy told me not long ago he used bread and it worked great. Lol
@@AdrenalineJunkieProd my clutch tool wadded up like a coil spring lol. Hammered it straight, jacked it up sideways, squirted water in and tried again. The clutch popped off just like yours. Epic lol.
Jim Mace the magic of hydraulic pressure! I’ve heard a lot of the cheap off brand pullers have issues. They are made out of poor quality materials and cannot take the strain of being torqued. They look like the name brand units but that’s about it. Sometimes you just get what you pay for.
You forgot the Teflon Tape on the threads. Pre filter the air going into the clutch housing and you will not have clutch problems you should not be seeing dust dirt falling out when you run the impact.
Hey, your puller broke! That sucks. It should not be easy to break the puller, I'm surprised it broke. Did it break flush in the primary clutch? How many threads are engaged? When you say it broke at the first thread what do you mean? If you can provide more details maybe I can try to offer some input. I've heard of and personally seen the tips of the puller bend from the clutch being on really tight, but haven't seen one break. When you say the first thread are you saying the puller itself sheared where the first thread is? That would arguably be a weak spot on the puller, however, if it is made out of the correct material a puller of that diameter should not break easily. Is is a cheap E-Bay/no name Chinese puller or a unit from a reputable company? It sounds like a material failure. The puller should be manufactured out of a hardened tool steel.
Oh my God you responded everything has happened me since health wise quad still the same. cheap puller I borrowed broke beyond threads about two inches of puller sloshing round in the hole blocking new puller from engaging threads tried a magnet tried drilling no success your great vid is one of the few to tackle real problems don't know what to do thanks again ,tc.
I heard someone else tell me that a while ago. Never would have considered bread. Is whole grain better or white? LOL It's a cool idea, I might have to try it.
Might be old news to you but a lot of newer SXS/ATV/Snowmobile owners don't know this so I figured I would share and help people avoid some headaches. No claims here that I'm the first one to do this. This method was shown to me by an older guy that learned it doing snowmobiles many moons ago.
I am making my own puller. After this video, I am going to drill a hole in it an mount a grease nipple so i can start the threads and then use a grease gun to fill it up. Sorry, bad english.
EXCELLENT IDEA! That is very smart..... I might do that too... Send me an e-mail with some pictures if you build one: adrenalinejunkieproduction@gmail.com

I'm having the same problem right now with mine ill give it a shot
Give it a go man. It’s a great trick. Usually it works. Very rarely it doesn’t.
Hey, do you have a trick to separate the primary to replace the one way bearings?
You need a special socket from the dealer or a speciality tool supplier. Then you need a clutch holding tool that you clamp in a vice. It locks into the cooling veins on the back of the clutch to hold it from moving and distribute the load because the nut is toques around 300ft/lbs. You can make your own clutch holding fixture out of wood or metal if you are handy. The slider socket should be purchased.
This video Got you a subscriber I was at my limit with ideas yours worked
Well done, will try that system on an Outlander@ 24,000 mi.s, should have serviced sooner. Thanks
At this point I'm open to other ideas even heating the thing with a torch.
If you load it full of grease and oil and have a strong enough impact it should work. Could your clutch shaft be bent? I’ve heard of people using bread even lol. That sucks it won’t come off. In wish I had a solution for you. I know it’s frustrating.
This is badass bro!!!! You saved my ass lol thank you!!!!!!
Glad it helped you out man, mission accomplished!! Ride safe!!
When you put the clutch back on what are you do just push it on there and then tighten it down or the original Bolt
Yup. Just put it on straight and then snug it up before torquing it down. It's a tapered shaft so it will sell position itself once you start tightening it up.
@@AdrenalineJunkieProd thanks for responding
@@Rad21967 No problem man. Hope you found the video helpful.
That worked awesome thanks for the tip.
Your welcome! Happy to hear this worked for you. It’s a magical little trick.
I use this trick all the time but I just wrap the threads of the puller with Teflon tape to make a seal then tip the machine up and dump some water in the hole. Same results with no clean up since the water just evaporates.
This was a great idea!!!
Thanks! Not my idea but definitely an awesome trick to know.
Worked amazing with a 2020 xp pro 4 was stuck for hours
Glad it helped out! It can be a real pain in the ass when they get stuck on.
I've also seen bar soap or a slice of bread used for the same purpose! LOL
Yeah I don't think the Soap or bread would be plausible on the CVT clutch..lol There more used on Auto clutch pilot bearings!
I have a 2014 rzr 1000 and I have tried this method and no luck. Any other recommendations?
Make sure you impact gun is strong. Make sure there is enough grease in there. Once you have the puller to the point it won’t go anymore try hitting the puller on the sides with a hammer. Don’t go crazy but give. A few good whacks. Back it out and try again. Some people say if it’s really hard it sometimes helps to drive the machine and get the clutches nice and hot and then try. Sometimes they can be really on there good.
@@AdrenalineJunkieProd the hammer part worked. We taped it with a rubber mallet while one of us drilled and if cam right off. Thanks!
Awesome thanks for the video man! Got it out using just using grease.
Cool video,, good info, we have had to pull a primary a few times.
Thanks Dandi, glad you found the video informative. I've never had a primary that was as stuck on as this one. It was brutal.
How did you hold the clutch still so it doesn't rotate with the puller?
Dude it freaken worked!!!
Hell yeah! That’s awesome man. Glad it worked for ya. It usually does.
cool trick for sure are you guys snowed in or what? No videos in over a month :(
Hey, no snow here actually.
AdrenalineJunkieProd sayn possibly some snow here later this week a few inches would make for some perfect riding conditions for us if you got nothing to do check my channel out 👍
Good trick to know .... Thanks 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Never had one stuck on this bad. Wouldn't of been able to get it off without this little trick.
Hella skepic but it worked flawless grease only your video tip worked thanks.
Also its better if you use complex grease, that's the real sticky stuff.
It worked! Just the grease.
Awesome man! Stoked this helped you out!
awesome video thanks guy !!
amos campbell your welcome! Glad you found the video useful, and hopefully a little entertaining too, lol.
Great tip worked like a charm !!
Works great that’s how I will do it from now on
Leave the secondary and belt on, the belt will keep the clutch from slamming in your face! Thanks for the vid.
That’s a great tip, can’t believe I didn’t think of that. I’ll be doing that from now on. Glad you found the video informative.
Verry cool bro well done
Gotta get her ready for the trip next week! I don't care what it takes, lol.
Agree bro
This is so awesome!
Thanks man! Science rules , lol 😂
As your tapping it I'm like man just use grease lol. A boss of mine taught me that about 15 years ago and I was like that is NOT going to work. Yea...we both know who was wrong lol
A guy told me not long ago he used bread and it worked great. Lol
Bread! lol. That's interesting, can't say I've ever heard of that.
Thanks brother that’s awesome fixing to try it.
That hit me right in the face! Haha
Hahahahaha, that sounds pretty bad when you take it out of context!
What clutch puller are you using?
Works 100% 💪
Glad it worked for you!! It's saved my ass quite a few times.
Worked great on a 2019 xp 1000 Ranger. Thanks
I’m about to try this
Hope it worked out for you man. It's a proven method, just be patient with it.
I should have watched this before I pulled my Primary in half.
Damn, that sucks. Sorry to hear about the bad luck getting your clutch off. At least now you know for future.
Mine wouldnt come off and I used water. Bad part is with water you have to have your rig leaning lol.
Just about any liquid will work. Like you said, water is hard to get to stay in there unless you lean it. That's why I used grease and oil this time.
It just worked for me! Thank you!
You forgot the Teflon Tape on the threads.
Pre filter the air going into the clutch housing and you will not have clutch problems you should not be seeing dust dirt falling out when you run the impact.
Awesome but right now my puller is broke at the first thread need help .tom
Worked great
Fuckin yeah buddy!!!!! Mine was as bad as that and would never have got it with out this video!!!!!!!
May the force be with you to get the MM views bud #fingersX
Nice!!
I was so happy when that clutch finally came off, lol.
Good video
Guys are using bread now it works great and much less mess to clean up
I heard someone else tell me that a while ago. Never would have considered bread. Is whole grain better or white? LOL It's a cool idea, I might have to try it.
I been doing this since the 70s Polaris clutches are common with the removal tool.. Old news
