I never grew up in that era but Max Raabe and the Palast Orcherter transport me back effortlessly to that time - the music and lyrics are timeless and the style with which they sing and play, especially to the cameras, is truly wonderful!! Sehr toll und sehr wunderbar!! Danke Vielmals!! xxx
Bravo Bravo Bravissimo!!!!!! We are all desperately needing Class, elegance, glamour, charm! Thanks. Thousnads of thanks, Max Raabe & Palast Orchester! Cheers and BOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the privilege of seeing him in concert...and he and the Palast orchester were top notch. I felt transported back to the era when these songs were popular!
Heute Nacht oder nie! the music IS timeless and is so refreshing in a time of turmoil. A bit of light in a world of gloom. Max performs all of these songs with elan and marvelous interpretations. Wish I could have seen him at Carnegie but I was no longer in NYC. I used to work on W 54th Street and saw many performances at Carnegie. I miss it.
the last part with bells was the most impresive sound and there was the part that shows the hard work that they do to be "one" on the stage .MAX and PALAST orchester a big BRAVO and many thanks for the reminding to some of the most beautifull past times !!!
Terrific, breathtaking! Max Raabe with his Unrivalled Voice, Elegance and his Superb Orchestra gives us Magic moments not only listening but also watching! I must thank my Dear Friend Judie for introducing me this gem! I'm so grateful to all of you who perform, upload and share Real Accomplishment and Beauty!
I was watching the PBS concert and now I found these videos- WOW! I feel as if I were transported to 1930 Berlin- I am absolutley enchanted by Max and his fabulous orchestra-I plan on going to there Chicago concert next April!
Caro amico ti seguo da anni e devo dire che sei formidabile. Naturalmente hai un ' orchestra di campioni .Bravi tutti. Strappate dolce malinconia dal cuore.
It was this performance that first endeared me to them, and now I am proud to be among those addicted to their performances. I own many of their CDs, all of their DVDs and get myself to any appearance here in the states that I can get to. They are talented musicians and delightfully nice people in addition. I quite love them.
I would love to hear Herr Raabe singing that great classic by Al Boley, My Canary Has Circles Under His Eyes. The humor and tongue-in-cheek approach to the music of the Palast Orchester can only make one smile.

My favorite Era of German History...the Weimar Period...such an explosion of arts and creativity...painfully brief flowering of democracy and freedom between the wars. I'm grateful to Max and his band for re-creating this music and these performances that are so vividly evocative. Zeitlos, wie er sagt.
He certainly has a charming accent to American ears, whether talking or singing. It is surely a part of his allure, along with the tuxedoes, the '20s-style instrumentation, and of course these grand old songs presented as composed for dance orchestras in that bygone era.
@ghs1357 - I missed that one, but you can bet I will not miss him this spring when he plays in Peekskill and then in Newark. And I am trying to figure out if I can make the one in Pittsburgh!!

max is a messenger from weimar, a period of artistic foment, the rise of reactionary politics which were to almost destroy the world, and of course financial crisis. welcome home max, just like the old days....
Does anyone know if this Carnegie Hall performance is available for sale? I found the German version of the show on Amazon, but I really would like to purchase the version with Max speaking to the audience in English. I caught it on PBS twice, and it was so charming.
We're off to see Max on Friday 24th May at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire. The man is a true star and oe day his time will come in the English speaking world. I understand all the resonances of German culture of the early 20th century. But he is in the tradition of the greats such as The Comedian Harmonists. For sure the Nazis would not have been fans - far too insouciant and irreverent but he and his band play the music they love.
does America have an oldies band like this? it's weird to hear american pop classics sung with a german accent. i'm a young person and not many my friends like this kind of music.
Farzin MinimalFantazy Hey, i'm late but if you still want to know it: This was ,,Dort tanzt Lu-Lu". You can find it on youtube. Link and Timestamp follows
dein topkommentar ist zwei jahre her... ich kenne may raabe erst seit ein paar monaten aber ich wollte wenigstens sagen: danke das eigentliche problem ist dass wenn man "deutsch" bzw "'german" sagt, dann schreien alle nazi :/ ich bin aber stolz dass die meisten nicht so sind :D no more nazi's please!
@Billqvist Oh and just to clarify, this was not by any means a lasting impression, it was just a disconcerting momentary feeling. And even at the time I found it to be stupid and unfounded.
@Billqvist It was an irrational feeling, Not sure why i wrote about it here. I know nothing about Max and his orchestra other than they are greatly talented, funny and love the music I love. I was surprised by my own reaction and it has given me a bit of perspective on the issue of racism and how ignorance, fear and irrationality might feed it. Personally it was a "prefect storm of irrationality" ...German accents AND early 20 century music AND seas of white people. horrible, yes, sorry I offend
Max Raabe has an elegance we haven't seen since the magnificent Fred Astaire.

Never heard anything so beautiful in a long long time. Love it so much. I get him and his music. Amazing. His voice is perfect for this kind of music.

Heute Nacht oder nie..
Why black and white?
He remind me also of Cole Porter and Noel Coward.
If Max Raabe objects to the word 'nostalgic', explain then why you've used it in your description? ;-)
Oakland Paramount !!!!
what was the song at last?
Farzin MinimalFantazy Hey, i'm late but if you still want to know it: This was ,,Dort tanzt Lu-Lu". You can find it on youtube. Link and Timestamp follows
