    In this video, I will show you how to replace the dome light bulb in your 2007-2009 Toyota Camry. This may work for other model years as well. The location of your dome light will be different, depending if you have a sunroof or not, but the steps are the same.
    They key is to be slow and meticulous, these cars aren't as new as they once were, and plastic changes and becomes more brittle with age. The more care you take removing and replacing the lenses, the less chance of damage. For this particular application, the car uses a 194-Type automotive bulb. I am replacing a failed LED light with another LED light.

    Nice job showing how it’s done. From my experience, not all LED bulbs are made the same and vary in build quality.

      Thank you. Agreed. These were cheap bulbs, and completely free to me, which was why I used them. I knew there were far better bulbs out there.

    Looked like a mini Club Jay with that old dome light!
    I was quite nervous as you were _trying_ to get the cover clipped in, and glad you had success. I've been there, done that, and had my fair share of broken clips.

      Yeah, it really did! Follow-up video Thursday on it.
      I got too nervous that it wasn't fitting in the way I thought it was supposed to, so I found a better way. The last thing I wanted to do was break that. Not that easy to replace.
      That is the bulb that is used most often, so it's not a surprise that it's the one that failed. Chances are good the map lights will be fine for quite some time to come. Worse though, was the rear lights, those were a royal pain to change out, and I honestly don't even remember how I did it. It wasn't fun, I remember that. Those don't come on when the front doors are opened, only when a rear door is opened, so they will have very little usage as well.

    Thanks this did indeed helped, although taking the bulb out was pain, what i did i put electrical tape on plyer and take the bulbs out that way, i tried with my hands but didn't work that way. Heads up by the way, if you want to do entire car with LED , you need total 10 T10 bulbs, this car takes nothing but T10, so don't buy all in 1 packs, 10 T10 and you are done.5 in the front, 2 in the back, 1 in the trunk and 2 license plate bulbs.

    I did it before I saw the video but the same way Unfortunately the clips are very flimsy and they broke my car is 2010 now every time I switch the light it falls off 😕

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  2 роки тому

      I think it's more the fact that the plasticizers leach out of the plastic, that's what makes them flexible. With them gone, it's more brittle and easier to break.
      3M makes something called adhesive transfer tape, it's like a double-sided scotch tape but without the mylar. With some careful application of it around the lens, it may fit a bit more snugly and not fall off. That may be just the ticket you need.

    I would think all of them are polarity sensitive. It's a Light Emitting DIODE. Diodes only pass current in one direction.

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  Рік тому +1

      I would normally agree with you 100%. Some of these automotive bulbs are not polarity sensitive and will work in either direction. But those are the only ones I have seen that aren't, no other LED will act like that. The package for the bulbs will stipulate if it polarity sensitive or not.

    Do you know what size bulb this is? Is there a black light size that will fit in?

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  2 місяці тому

      While not stated in the video, the bulb type is listed in the video description.
      As for a black light to put in there, the point is to be able to see inside the vehicle. There are different color ones you'll find, it's only a Google search away. Any color other than white defeats the purpose of the dome light entirely. Back in my day, we had incandescents, I could get them in red, blue, and green. Looked cool. Couldn't see in the car. Anyone else on the road could care less. These days they can't even look up from their phone before they hit you, defeating the entire purpose of a car.

    How much do those wedge base bulbs cost? Would they work for low voltage landscape lighting that is 12 volts?

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  2 роки тому

      Depends what you want to buy. You can find bigger lots for little money, if longevity isn't a factor. Or you can pay a lot more for less, but get higher quality bulbs. Yes, they will work for 12 volt landscape lights, provided the base will fit.
