This video explains how to get started working on the ambulance service (EMS) and describes the ranks and certification levels of the NREMT. I recommend skipping EMR and jumping right into EMT school as this is true "entry-level" position in a paid ambulance position.
Once you gain field experience, working your way from IFT (inter-facility transport) to getting 911 field experience you make the decision whether you want to go to AEMT or Paramedic school to increase your skills, and salary in EMS.
The benefits of becoming a paramedic include increased salary, more job opportunities, higher responsibility and leadership on EMS scenes and increased training opportunities such as becoming a community paramedic, tactical paramedic or flight/critical care paramedic. But before we jump to paramedic school we need to get field experience and have a solid foundation with basic life support care and ambulance operations.
I hope this video gives you some insight into the schooling and daily life of working as an EMR, EMT, AEMT or Paramedic! On this channel, I help EMS students prepare for school, pass school and pass NREMT exams. Join us for a lesson!
Be great,
Evan, The Paramedic Coach

This man right here is worth every cent. I went from failing my EMT Schools exam to passing it on the second try and passing NREMT first try in 80 questions. If you have any doubt about his program, I hope this comment sells you to take a chance!
Just passed my EMT-B final it’s such a great feeling and now all I have to do is take my NREMT🙌🏽
Just passed my NREMT I can recommend Paramedic Coach's video library and I took some practice tests with BoostPrep. Passed the test first try! Good luck!
Congragulations! Any tips for the final exam?
Right there with you! Take the NREMT skills portion on the 21st!
🙌 let’s goooo!!
🥳
Same here let’s go
I finally passed my NREMT today! Passed on my 6th attempt, thankfully I don’t have to redo the entire class! You have been a huge help with the videos and practice quizzes! 10/10 recommend
I live in SE Louisiana and work as an EMR for Acadian Ambulance Service. It is a paid, full time position. Majority of my work is doing BLS transports with an EMT. I have been on a truck with a paramedic several times and ran 911 calls. Just depends on where they need me. Now my scope of practice is nothing but my hands and mind work side by side with medics. I am doing the EMT course as well but wanted to get my feet wet in EMS and the EMR spot was perfect for that!
Also employed with Acadian as an EMR, funny to find someone here 😂. Working on EMT soon.
@ Same. I start EMT class in January
Thank you for your video vault and advice. I passed my NREMT a few weeks ago and I take my IV course this week. I'm still catching in to watch your videos for the extra help👍🏿
Just passed my NREMT! Thank you for all of your videos!
I did my EMR course back in high school, didn't pass the exam then my second semester of college I did my EMT course and passed and got my national and state back in 2019 when I was 19. I'm 24 now and just got back into the ambulance service, been a long time.bur it feels good being back in the ambulance
In my area near Atlanta GA there is a few paid EMR positions. Mainly just like for standby for events
Hi sir,
I am from kashmir india ,
I am an EMT, ❤
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS 🎉❤
I passed my nremt, but I'm afraid I won't know what I'm doing on the field which is why I haven't started looking for jobs.
They train you in the field. I’m a fresh EMT, absolutely loving my job
You’ll get the feel for it, there’s a different patient handling process in the field than in class but they follow the same guidelines. Take a deep breath, be confident in yourself, and DONT BE SCARED TI ASK QUESTIONS. None of us know everything, keep learning always
make the jump! You are not going to be perfect day 1, and you will make plenty of mistakes (everyone does, even 10+ year Paramedics) but you WILL get better with every call. Remember, you chose this path for a reason and you’ve already proven that you’re smart enough to pass the NREMT.
Here’s some things to think about when starting out:
1. a good EMT is a good partner. listen to and support your Medic. EMS is a team sport, you are never alone
2.make your mistakes and try to learn from them. If you are learning you are winning
3. be afraid and do it anyway. you will be nervous at times, this is normal. keep moving it will get easier
I believe in you ninjatoaster
I passed my NREMT a month ago, I’m waiting for my state license. But I’m worried that I’m not actually ready, I will be doing IFT first for about 3-6 months before 911. Why do I feel like I’m not ready even though I got many A’s in class and passed NREMT after 70 questions. I took your video vault course which helped me pass my EMR at college then EMT at a 5 week course.
you can be a EMR paid positions at superior ems in Chicago
I’m trying to go to school to become an emt and hopefully help people
the emt class im currently in is for 10 months or 2 semester im a junior is high school and the only thing im paying for are my books :)
Im currently a certified pharmacy technician. I recently thought about becoming a paramedic. Any suggestion where to start?
Coursera has an online EMT course through University of Colorado. There is an expense at the end of $1000 to go to Colorado for a week for an in-person skills training but that’s at the end of the program, and includes your hotel, food, etc. it’s been pretty good so far!! I’ve learned a lot!
can you explain work schedules at all?
I paid $250 for EMT course at my local community college
Question for you. A friend got hit by and ambulance, it was raining the ambulance didn't have lights on, they go immediately into oncoming traffic with no siren just lights and run into my friends stopped car. Why would they go into incoming traffic with no siren in the rain?
Any tips for the final exam?
Review your previous tests and watch his vids and read books
Do a lot of practice tests (JB learning ) till your scoring 80s and above
