Ryanair Pilot Nails Scary Landing

- This is an incredible landing caught on tape that a Ryanair pilot made flying into Madeira Airport, aka Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, in Portugal. The airport already has a reputation for being one of the most challenging airports in the world, and uncomfortable-looking landings are quite normal. On this particular day, the pilot had to battle high crosswinds as they approached. Inside Edition Digital has more.
This is the smoothest landing in Ryanair’s history.
Me when the plane lands: Wow a rollercoaster
fr
true
Mann for once praise the landing rather than making fun of the Airline
facts
If RyanAir keeps this up by training their pilots on landings, then I am going to be really proud on how much ryanair changed
Its just a meme
🤓
They should start ordering A320s
Ryanair is Europe's biggest carriers of passengers. Your comment says more about you than Ryanair.
@@Aviatopolis Then the technicians fixing their planes would need to be trained on that aircraft which costs Ryanair more money.
and it wont be my favourite airline then
He just made Ryanair history
@sieksa ryanair sucks
@sieksa ur so edgy 😮😮😂😂😂 bro these kids
Historic archives, right?
@sieksa o
@sieksa you never understand hahaha
For the people who where wondering why the plane was sideways it’s a difficult technique called crabbing, turning the nose into the wind so that some component of the aircraft's thrust is counteracting the crosswind, allowing the plane to land safely
Thanks for share information. I didn't know. It is a great technique that can save our lives.
So it was done on purpose in order to land?
@@CatesCube yes. Birds do it all the time if you watch them fly on windy days.
@@sandrinesantos6445 no problem.
Pilot (small planes) here. Yes, crabbing is a standard technique for handling crosswinds on final approach to landing. Then right before touchdown, you straighten the plane to align with the runway (and, for smaller planes, lower the upwind wing). It's definitely a "learned" technique, which I needed to learn because I flew out of an airport with frequent strong crosswinds.
Props to the pilots, give them a raise
Turbines
"give the a raise"
Spoken like a true gentleman
Reality : got fired for landing too smoothly
Dat grammar doh
Its ryanair, they will probably fire the pilot for landing the aircraft so smoothly.
Oh my.. being able to land there safely feels like the pinnacle every pilot has to reach to be the winner in the field.
Went on vacation to Madeira Island in 2007. We made 3 attempts to land before the pilot turned back to Lisbon. Never again. 😬😵💫
@Duffelbag Dragbruh 😂😂😂😂
@@digby_dooright no way😂
@Duffelbag Drag No way you said that 💀
@Duffelbag Drag 💀☠️
Imagine living near the airport and seeing the plane come at your house and at the last second make a turn😬
Very Scary 😱
i personally think that would be vary cool!
it's all fun until they dont make that turn
Ahhh that’s like my nightmares-Literally!
It’s fun and games when you realize it’s Ryanair
He has just made history for the smoothest landing in Ryanair history, give this guy a promotion.
I think you meant they should Fire him.
@@danjay6952 Well if they want to keep their bad reputation, then yes but this guy should be paid way more.
I think he just graduated from Ryanair, he can go fly other airlines now
Promotion to Emirates, you mean
@@threelions2109 bad? i think it’s more of personal preference because i want to fly ryanair so bad just to experience the landings lol
Wow. How truly terrifying. He deserves a raise.
The pilot's pay rate for this airport was already higher than any airport in the world
I mean this technique is called crabbing which is when a pilot counteracts side winds by flying moderately sideways until right before the landing, which is a common thing for pilots to learn. It looks really impressive but it's actually not that special and is done every day.
@@hejalll so you know how to do it since its not "SPECIAL"
@@spirpres-edits893 lol bruh that must be the dumbest analogy. I don't even know how to turn on a planes engine, but turning it on certainly aint special.
@@hejalll this scenario is different though. They were already making a stall-inducing turn before doing the crab manoeuvre.
That pilot and his team deserve a round of applause. I really admire pilots who can land in those conditions. I would have been super worried knowing it's one of the 3 most difficult to land in... Kudos to the people of Ryanair.
I loved the correction they made to be as less side loaded as possible. It was definitely the icing on the cake for that crosswind landing
This was literally the smoothest thing done by Ryanair, tho it must have been anxious seeing it in real life lol.
literally?
nah but ok
@@6z0 It's the truth
Crabbing into the wind can be challenging because the wind is so unpredictable. That was a phenomenal landing for that big boy!
ayo big boy??
the 737 isnt big wdym
@@eseopu I think a 90,000 pound jet is pretty big
@@bestbaconman4547 i mean comparing it to like a 747 or 777
@@eseopu well in that case then yeah it is pretty small
welcome aboard this ryanair, this flight has a 75% percent of going smoothly!!!! and thank you again for flying RYRY air
75? more like 25 lmao
1%*
I love how there's news coverage of ryanair making a good landing like its a super rare event to happen
Ryanair has sent the Pilot for retraining, they were ok with all of it, but the gentle touchdown was absolutely unacceptable
Your spot on there!👍👍
I'm from Madeira and before the aviation simulators, only air force pilots could land here.
*Did you notice the weird bump in the runway? It is actually an extension for the original runway because of an acident (the plane did not stop in time and fell on the ground bellow right before the sea) and the government ordered an extra 1600 meters of runway.*
1600 ft you mean?
@@Angel_EU34 Nah, both wrong. The runway was 1600m originally, then +200m, and then +980m and partially on a bridge
They'd actually started plans for the 1st extension way before the fall, though I think it contributed to the decision for the 2nd extension, which was quite the engineering work.
@@S_Carol Obrigado por corrigir, já não me lembrava das medidas corretas.
@@S_Carol I can imagine. Thanks for the info. I need to book a flight there sometime just for the experience!
Could have ended in a tragedy but that landing was smooth.
Not at all :) That is what most Madeira landings look like on the windy days!
No thats exactly how you land a plane in cross winds you have to fly into the wind until the last second
No
No
Smooth for ryan air any other ur fired
Whether you're new or have many years of experience if you can complete a landing as tricky as that you're definitely a pro
What a pilot! He perfectly landed the first wheel aligned on the broken lines.
Centerline.
Airline pilots have the toughest job in the world.. The safety of all the passengers lies on their mighty shoulders.. Hats off to the crew.....!
Madeira is my favourite holiday destination. My wife and I just love the island. In years gone by I worked and lived in France for 14 years and had to return to the UK regularly. The most convenient airline was Ryanair and i must have flown with them 100 times. I haven't a single complaint against them, in fact quite the opposite. Brits in general have looked down upon the Irish and they now can't cope with them being Europe's largest carriers of passengers.
Agreed. Jelousy..
That happens every single day. That landing was perfect! When they have a high cross wind they kind of hover over the runway and approach it in a "crab-like" manner and then at the last second right before touchdown the pilot "kicks" the rudder to straighten the plane and it goes from a 'crabbing' motion to straight down the runway! This takes a lot of training and a lot of skill! But it is not an uncommon landing by any means and probably happens hundreds of times a day around the world.
I watched carefully and never saw the rudder move. And who was taking the video?
litteraly the only landing that didn’t crash and the best landing of all Ryanair flights that have never made it
literally?
Ryanair actually has never had an fatal incident.
Little knowledge is dangerous kid, ryan air never had any crashes till date
Ryanair's one of the most saresti airlines they just make bad landings like dont be exagerated💀
@@jacks3395 I wasn’t mentioning any fatal crashes I was talking about non-fatal crashes
I wonder if the passengers thought it was just another normal landing.
ah yes a moment in ryanair history that no one will ever forget
He was fired shortly for landing smoothly
That was the best landing by Ryanair in history
The pilot was fired because it was too smooth for Ryanair 😂😂💀
This Ryanair pilot is fired for having a smooth landing
Ryanair is given a lot of discredit due to those clips that went viral, Ryanair isn’t that bad and have very often smooth landings
I’m sure a few of the passengers needed a clean up on aisle 3 after that.
Pilot after that landing be like: SEWYY!!!😂
*trumpet sounds* Thank you for flying Ryanair. Last year over 90% of our flights arrived on time. We hope you appreciate more and we hope you come back. Ryanair. Low fares. Made simple.
"Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport" got me 😂
That plane's a badass. Could have been a disaster but landed smoothly!
The pilot probably loved that approach. Good job pilot 👏👏
He/she earned bragging rights, that's for sure.
Looks just like a crosswind landing to me. Point the noise into the wind as much as possible then as you get close to the runway align yourself with the runway again.
Yeah I’ve seen dozens of videos like this, surprised its news. Ofc props to the pilots too, just surprised it’s news.
That is what I was thinking, it's a completely normal landing, nothing scary or dangerous about it.
This is the safest landing in ryan air history, we should credit the pilot.
This is insane for Ryan air, massive milestone
This man should be awarded for having the most smoothest Ryanair landing! This man literally buttered that completely illegal
Well done to the pilot! Definitely will be avoiding any flights going into that airport.
That pilot really deserved the applause
This was still safer than the average Ryanair flight
And the pilot nailed the center line..... Hats off.
Whoever's reading this, i pray that whatever you're going through gets better and whatever you're struggling with or worrying about is going to be fine and that everyone has a fantastic day! Amen
ok bot
Everyone saying the pilots should get a raise, but all I see is a pilot who knows how to land their plane.
I was surprised by how good my own Ryanair experiences were. Better than expected.
I landed in Madeira sideways once in a storm. The entire plan applauded when we finally touched down.
It’s a run of the mill crosswind landing. If they land by definition it’s run of the mill because if it goes out of limits they’re required to go around and try again. The camera angle and extreme zoom creates an optical illusion that exaggerates the lateral movement.
Everyone is praising the pilot but no one talks about the incredible Boeing 737, hats off to the engineers for making it such a versatile aircraft
Ryanair has finally achieved the butter landing.
The pilot made Ryanair history
ryanair: we dont just do hard landings we do scary landings
I'm glad I witnessed this piece of History. The smoothest Ryanair Landing.
As you touch down in the crosswind, you want to do it in three steps: first, the upwind main, then, the downwind main, then finally, the nose wheel. By touching down one wheel at a time, you maintain your alignment with the runway throughout the touchdown.
This is their daily job
It’s nice when things don’t need to go wrong to be news
This was probably one of the best crosswind landings I’ve seen on a jet, I don’t wanna hear anyone talking about Ryanair’s pilots ever again 😅
Props to the Pilot
that plane literally turned into a helicopter for a second
I sure am glad you showed the landing in its entirety and not just showing 1 second after touch down.
Hi. I'm from madeira and yes this is very scary but it's a common thing, every time that the plane lands the people inside the plane clap 👏 of joy because we're safe and sound.
Props to the pilot. He's always a hero when landing safely.
As soon as I saw "Ryanair" I knew this would be a horrible landing, and they're just overreacting, however they weren't. This is the best Ryanair landing i've ever seen!! Props to the pilots!!
Props to the guy flying the plane
Best landing Ryanair has ever had
This just looks like a regular Ryanair flight to me.
That pilot needs a raise
He just broke the ryanair law
Christiano Ronaldo: please make the runway longer.
Thank you for flying Ryanair, last year, over 90% of our flights arrived.
When the passengers have a better view of the runway than the pilots 😬
Imagine the view of the passengers: “Why am I looking straight down the runway??”
Someone give this pilot a raise just upgraded Ryanair landing survival expectancy
"Sees a Ryanair plane land smoothly"
Me: IMPOSSIBLE!!!! 😱😱😱😱
The pilot after the landing: SUUUUUUUUIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!
that's what I thought 😂😂🙌
Ryanair doing the Gimi Glider
THAT is FIRST RATE FLYING!!
Nicely done!! 👍👍
Pilot: that's a tricky landing but ive made it
Ryanair: thats too good...your fired...
The best Ryanair approach ever, bravo.
*Your Average Ryanair landing on opposite day*
They didn't call CR7 airport for no reason
I love being onboard for those landings!
It's a cool ride!
He deserves a raise
Best landing I’ve ever seen from Ryanair.
Pilot got swag in landing with style .... Humanity should protect him in all cost... He deserves a raise ... 😉
Pilot wasn’t shook and most certainly won’t be after that
This pilot 100% watched top gun maverick.
That's because out of the impossible odds, all the passengers paid the "trained pilot" additional fee
This is definitely one of Ryan Air's smoothest landings lol
Smoothest landing in Ryanair history.
When the drift is respectable and the plane is impeccable
Underrated comment 😅
Pheww. That's some good flying. Great pilot.
That guy needs to get a raise
bro just defied the laws of ryanair.
congratulations, my dad landed every landing all around the world.
If anyone is confused about all the comments joking about ryanair; In the aviation community the Ryanair airline is basicly a meme. Its assosciated with very hard landings.
That is a 1 in a lifetime event that a Ryan plane or a 737 lands during a crosswind
If someone says ryanair one more time..
As a certified pilot dis the butter in Ryanair history
Pilot deserves a knighthood for this one.
