Excellent evidence and so well articulated from Chris Keefer and Heather Hoff. Thank you for your efforts to inform the nuclear power debate in Australia. Very refreshing compared to the ignorant mis and disinformatiom from our own PM Albo and Energy Minister Bowzo.
There was a comment about mine sites using mostly wind/solar with storage and gas as the cheapest option, implies that nuclear is not a suitable alternative, but ignores that nuclear power is illegal in Australia so the mine sites cannot consider it as an option. If nuclear was legal, many mine sites could consider SMRs as an option.

Any sane person would be very negative when we see LNP spreading another simplistic lie for the stupid and gullible to believe. Nuke power is such an unnecessarily expensive, false and distant hope that it can only be seen as new wave climate denial in the service of their paymasters from the coal and gas lobby. The best case timeline for nuclear power in Australia is first reactor online around 20+ years, with meaningful contributions to CO2 reduction only out past 30-40 years, which we don't have left to fix the mess we're still making. And those timelines assume Australian and state laws are changed very quickly and we can convince local communities to have a waste dump near you for the next 5000 years. Nuclear doesn't work well with renewables because it can't be throttled back to zero quickly when we have excess power available, and it is very uneconomic to run large reactors below a high fraction of their capacity. If their views prevail we are even more rooted than we are now. Jobs, my arse.

Tyrone says emissions will increase temperatures over 2 degrees (C or F). However, if we listen to leading physicists, we understand that carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere is a paltry heater of the planet, and CH4 emissions from livestock are equally a non-entity. Like many others, he should return to school and take some physics classes in radiative spectrography. This will show that CO2 over 100 ppm is saturated at these meagre concentrations, so levels above these will raise the temperature of planet Earth by less than 1 degree C for every doubling of CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. There is nothing wrong with nuclear energy-it is the way of the future. But we need all types, including wind and solar power. Coal is preferred right now, provided it is scrubbed of particulate matter and toxic gasses, which the Chinese are now masters at. How else do you think they have cleaned up their cities and produced a coal-fired plant daily?
