When I first saw this announced I had to have one. Took me a long time to finally fine one even Amazon and E-Bay didn't have them for a while. Well I owned it for a year + and it was my favorite folding knife I've ever used... Then using it out in a field I lost it when helping a friend with some mower repairs. Heart Broken I ordered 2 new ones and am happy to have two of my favorite knives. Fingers crossed my old one turns up one day, preferably not flung out from a mower deck!?

+vulpixgrant Lol I disagree. I'd watch; real steel, good laughs, and maybe a boom or two? Sounds like a recipe for success!

I purchased one and here is my Amazon review on it
I just received my Kershaw Volt SS today and have been handling it for a few hours. As a reference, I own the Ontario Rat 1, Spyderco Tenacious, SOG Flash 2, Kershaw Cryo 2, Thermite, Scrambler, Volt 2, all knives were between $25-40 delivered. My first impressions are negative and positive:
    NEGATIVE.
    1. It's difficult to release the frame lock to close the blade with one hand. When trying to release the frame lock, if holding the knife in your right hand palm up, the right thumb has a difficult time trying to release the frame lock. The frame lock is has no jimping on it, so it's slippery, and it is not raised much as compared to the opposite side, making it difficult to release in normal warm dry conditions, cold and wet conditions are going to make closing it more difficult. If you use your left thumb nail/tip to push down on the frame lock, it's easy to unlock, but that requires two hand closure and pressure on your thumb fingernail. The frame lock appears to be slightly higher than the non frame lock side, about 1/64", but it is not high enough. My lock release on my Kershaw Cryo 2, Kershaw Thermite, Kershaw Scrambler is raised about 1/32" higher than the non frame lock side with no jimping on it, which is not high enough. My Ontario Rat 1 is raised about 1/32" (not enough) Kershaw Crown is raised about 1/8"(easier), Spyderco Tenacious is raised the highest, about 1/4" (the best), with these 3 having jimping on them. These 3 are easiest to close one handed. The Spyderco is the easiest to close one handed and could probably be closed with gloves on. The bottom line is that the frame lock or liner lock on all knives should be raised about 1/4 of an inch or more and have jimping on it for easy closure, similar to the Spyderco Tenacious. I'm not a knife maker. It's Kershaws job to figure this out and build knives using this simple solution. This one simple fix would have been all this knife needed to make it perfect. I don't think I got a defective knife. I think this is the way they are manufactured. I'm going to contact Kershaw and get their opinion on it.
    POSITIVE.
    1. It's a nice knife for $25 but has a design flaw in its closing design, see Negative comment below. It this flaw was fixed, I would give it 5 stars.
    2. It's attractive in shape and color. The blade is narrow, slender and attractive.
    3. The blade opens quickly with a nice snappy opening due to the spring assist, the slender blade and the bump for the flipper opening.
    4. Nice finger choils and jimping on the back of the blade. I have large hands and it fits my hand well.
    5. The pocket clip is adjustable to 3 positions, 2 tip up and 1 tip down. Not 4 positions.
    6. I think the knife is coated with a gray powder coating. I don't think it is polished stainless steel, which is what I thought I was receiving.
    7. Nice knife for everyday carry, cutting fruit, vegetables, cutting rope, opening boxes and would inflict a nasty wound if called to be used as a self defense weapon with its 3.5" blade.
I contacted Kershaw explaining this, and their response was I can return the knife and get my money back. That's not the problem. The problem is the way the lock release is designed. The lock release is not raised enough to allow the user to unlock it with one hand.

Kershaw -Volt ss- underrated EDC folder... A lot of knife for little money. This solid knife is better than most of the more popular kershaw folders out there. If your on the fence about buying one get it, you'll love it.

I received a Volt SS in lot of mixed knives, it has become my EDC. While I dislike promoting made in China knives, the Volt SS is well designed, well made, and (China) priced right.

Good vid. Thanks for sharing. CS American Lawman is a way better knife. The heat treat on the CS steel is awesome. The lock on the American Lawman is superior to the Kershaw. Might not look a snazzy as the Kershaw, but I am sure it will outperform it.

It has almost the same blade as my Kershaw Chill (also an RJ Martin design) and I absolutely love that knife it's so light and thin it might be even thinner than this one. It's not speed assist though there's no spring in it at all but you really don't need it on that knife with just the slightest flick of the rist the blade flies right out no problem.

I took mine apart a few months ago and one of the washers was nylon. Replaced it with a phos bronze washer, and now it opens as fast as the leek.

you didn't mention the centering in regard to blade and handle, kershaw has fairly nice knives, but the onion series put kershaw on the map,and these just seem to be a re-configuration of the onions regardless of the kershaw mystery metals that they come up with to keep cost to them, and prices to us down and manageable.

Deploy is a little sluggish compared to it's smaller bro... the Zing... which is rightly named.
But if you like this Fred... track down a Boker Plus Titan Drop Folding Pocket Knife 01BO188 Titanium Handles. Sweeeet !!! For about $15 buck more !!!

I would have judged this to be a drop-point too, but Kershaw considers this to be a clip-point. You need to look very closely to understand why.

Fred I am in need of another edc knife and I simply just dont know which knife to buy. I like the flippers on knives like the kershaw cryo and leek. I have also heard that those 2 knives are good edcs. Ive also heard alot about sypderco knives and I have found one called the domimo but I dont know if $175 is worth an edc knife all bang up. I would appreciate you getting back to me. I feel lost without a knife in my pocket right now. Great videos by the way. Thanks.

I do love Kershaw folders. although, they really need to fire whoever is in charge of the pocket clips! 98% of them are ridiculously stupid!! I will say that the Volt and Cryo are the exception!

Same here. I learned a trick. Log in to Cabelas, place it in your cart, and then just move on to other sites and what not. A couple of hours later it seemed, they sent me a 10% extra discount on those clearance items. Had it shipped to store & less than a week later went and picked it up. I really like the flipper on this knife and for the price it is definitely one of my favorites.

Tara Baker This is sometime that only you can answer and has to do with your personal likes and requirements. If someone gave me the choice of these three knives I would pick the scallion because of the better materials use in that knife and it also come in many varieties.

@22effman22 wont be let down with a spyderco! My personal favorite and probably some of the best knives are made by spyderco. dominio is not an edc though it certainly could work though, i suggest maybe a manix2 or if you have to have a flipper get a buck vantage one of my all time favorite edc. hope this helps msg me if you have any other questions.

It could work and would work very well in fact but in my opinion it is just to damn nice to be used as an edc. For me edc means a knife I carry and use, and use hard, and I just wouldn't use that expensive of a knife for edc. Just my opinion on things.
