I really appreciate you pausing when you realized you didn’t know what terminology is appropriate to talk about someone with an intellectual/developmental disability - I’d rather people say very little than potentially something offensive! It takes a lot of self awareness to recognize you are not sure about what terminology to use. As an autistic person I appreciate how you handled it! ❤❤
As someone who has worked with special needs population for a couple of years, I've just learned to say neurodivergent as an umbrella term. In my experience it's the least one to get misinterpreted or cause offense. Hopefully that helps!

I’m assuming you live in a safe neighborhood but if he doesn’t shut his curtains wouldn’t strangers know he lives alone and he is old plus they can see in his windows at night so they can see what he has inside and try to get in idk I just worry about someone breaking into my apartment at night that’s one of my biggest fears more so when my boyfriend isn’t here with me and I’m alone but still it can happen to anyone
