My granddad likes the wear spread over the field and I had a natural tendency to stick to a single set of tracks. You can imagine the friction that caused when I started doing more driving for him. :) Now I spread it where I can.
Its a wonder they don't have them two barriers (front and back) on rams. When you let down your wings they fold down a bit and then when you fold up the arms them barriers fold back up snug. You couldn't snag the back bales then. I reckon on a short draw where the bales are relatively close to the yard is when you'd really save time.
When you get to the field drop the to sides and give the hand throttle a bit of a push. Start on your right side facing forward you get 2 there with out anything on your left. Then lift the 2 bales three quarter ways up, now fill your left side till full that’s stopped the craic of fill both side at one because when you drop the bales to the ground to pick the next bales the trailer want to turn over putting upward pressure on the bales and probably hole the. Works for us.
Drawin bales yourself is a great job we are doin a really long draw this year and we use lowloaders so we can bring 16-18 bales on each low loader and theres 3 lads and then 1 loadin and 1 unloadin
To be fair to you you're making a grand job of it. I've never driven a Wilson but I've put thousands of bales through a keltec and let me tell you I ripped some amount of bales on the first season never mind the first day. If be badly disappointed now if I rip more than on out of 4-500 in a day. Used to be 3 or 4 a load 😖
Unfortunately, almost all self loading bale carriers do have the same flaw : they don’t pick up the bales the way they were laid down, one always has to drive (often with some heavy load on wet soil) crosswise on the field, leaving tracks that, once the ground dried out, makes jump for joy all upcoming machinery in the future…
She's kicking the leg up because of the weight out to either side, when you load one side you should have the other up until it the catch touches the face of the catch hook iykwim. The bales on the loaded sided then fall into the centre shifting the weight in so you'll not kick the back leg like you said you did.
Hi John Question for you see in video there is a ford 4000 with a tanco loader do you know what number it is and in your opion would it lift a 800kg bale into a feeder . Reason i ask bought an international 784 and it looks like the same loader on it but it was sprayed black so not sure
Dont think the hydraulic pump would manage it as you would need it up to full height to drop into a feeder, only 19lpm flow and that's out of the box, if it did lift it that would put serious strain on the loader with that sort of weight and it would probably crack as it's a fairly old loader tbh
@@johnheffernan264 I have a ford 4000 with a loader myself, hydraulic pump is weak but will lift a 800kg bale about 2 ft off the ground revved flat out. Sorry for trying to answer your question 😂
Great manufacturer's John...... try out their rear mounted mower and grouper with whatever front mower you want.....great lay down on front swarth with their grouper.....strong heavy long lasting kit...!!! 👍👍👍👍SIRRRR.!!
Your lifting it up too high when there slipping out it helps a bit if there's more of the weight of the bales are sitting on the 2 pipes they still slip abit but not as often
I’ll never understand why people wrap bales in the field then bring them in. Wrap them where ur stacking them then ur only handling them once! Minimal chance of damage and u can cart more than 10 at a time
Couldnt agree more! Everytime I see one of these trailers in use I cringe, the time messing around loading it and then only have 10 bales on! Could have cleared the field in 1/2 the time with conventional trailer and loader tractor....Wrapped in the yard, perfect combo, no risk of ripping bales either. Everyone has there preference though i guess
From what you were saying about 90 bales in 6 hours you would be quicker with a normal bale trailer and soft hands and you would have them stacked and all
@@pm7549 if there was only one person drawing them the normal trailer and loader would be faster. That yoke needs a large area to unload and then you have to stack them
Waiting for the day John boy goes off on a tangent about his former agricultural media company..
What happened there do they get along?
Who was his former company?
If ya watch both i know which one had the better vision
I think it was Grassmen, in the older DVDs you can hear someone who sounds a lot like John

Nope. Long draws too. If you'd 2 ten packs on the draw you'd still beat 2 bale trailers no bother. Drop and go.
love the fids keep er lit
Good video, enjoyed hearing the history
When ya have the 5 bales on could you not drop it down all the way, back up, lift up the last one and pull it up to keep them in closer together?
Used to pull 8 bale keltec 1 minute 20. Seconds to load I used have hand throttle open a bit great machine
12:12 Seeing the 2 Internationals sitting there is quite similar to our 2, International 674 78 and 275B with loader (although not currently).

Would those type trailers be any good in soft ground or a wet year, John you're bringing a lot of weight with you around in the field?

How’s the t3000 cb radio working for you?
Always different way every time

Spread out the tracks

Good to know chief 👌 rookie level that day and wicked brakes on the trailer were testy! 😋
Works best on our case cvx (vario gear box ) you don't use the brakes that much
Keltec... 2 , 5, 3 and gone

Within 5k a keltic/Watson is unmatched. Anything above that a bale trailer. Maybe when the weather allows john could do a comparison of both systems.
Have a different pad everytime
