If you're after more lengthy retrospectives about the golden age of videos games - ua-cam.com/video/feCqT1S5pxI/v-deo.html - it's a full exploration about the history of PARASITE EVE - the most chaotic survival horror franchise ever made. Hope you enjoy!
1:50 Pffft not for me. Im 34, when Halo 1st came out i couldn’t understand why it was so over blown. Perfect Dark rained supreme as it was Golden Eye 2.0. Perfect dark had so many weapons and alternative fires that basically doubled the guns. Halo had 2 guns, major down grade. Halo cant decide between being a serious shooter or if cartoony alien death souths is the way to go. Lets be honest, X-Box bombed between the red ring of death and no games worth playing console. Halo was X-Box 1st successful game on a dead on arrival console. Halo saved that console. Thats it. X box has the same problem till this day. They make a handful of games worth playing but never worth buying an entire console first. Especially since they STILL USE BATTERIES! 😪
Your totally right about Tony Hawk and the culture it delivered to people outside south bay. Im from San Pedro CA like 40min from LA. I miss the days of house punk shows in the living room with pillows and mattress’s blocking doors and windows to sound proof. All while there’s a half pipe in the back yard and skater boys n girls. We even got a skate park made under the freeway by raising money through shows. Tony hawk actually came down and hung out with the local skate punk scene and donated money. Even GTAV has the skate park under the freeway. Punk & Hip-hop was a tornado of a scene to be apart of back then. Nobody is present in the moment anymore. Everyones loosing the moment trying to capture it. Our memories are more than audio visual. The feel of a crowd, the vibes of anyone you run into, its all tye black sheeps of the family in one big outcast of a family. 🤙 Your videos are solid bruv.
I gotta say, I LOVE this format. The longer retrospectives are great to watch in chunks, but these shorter and more digestible retrospectives about games you unambiguously love are the perfect thing to e.g. watch over breakfast to feel good at the start of a day. Looking forward to more of these!
dude, did you make this vid specifically for me?! you hit a bunch of my favorite series in one of my fav vid formats, i think you're onto something. keep up the good work!
That's awesome to hear - I really enjoyed making this so I'm keen to do more in this style going forwards (although lengthy retrospective is still going to be my focus!)
Your bit about Silent Hill 2 made me tear up. After going through something similar in real life, it makes the entire game feel even more grim and shocking. Love all your personal elaborations on what you love about these games and how they relate to your life.
This video was an absolute joy. Please keep making them. Seeing your consistently eloquent approach to all these topics in the more digestible format of Quickfire was just awesome!!
I've been watching your videos for 3 hours in the background while working and the moment you namedropped SOULCALIBUR, I gasped for air and paused, stunned with excitement. SolCal 6 was the game that made me completely fall in love with fighting games all over again, and I recommend it on every occasion to anyone I know. I love how just accessible but deceptively complex it is, I love its gameplay variety that stems from different weapons (there's only so much you can do with martial arts). I am so psyched that to have heard you sing praises of this nowadays grossly overlooked series, this has totally made my day.
That's awesome to hear. I'll never pass up an opportunity to talk about how good Soul Caliber is. Me and my friends have spent thousands of hours playing it over the decades - it really doesn't get enough love!
I would love a deeper dive into the Silent Hill series, with the remake coming up, I'd love a refresher from someone as talented as you, awesome stuff!
Absolutely thrilled to see even just a clip from Shadow Hearts, it's my favourite game and rarely seems to come up in conversations about JRPGs except with committed fans of the genre! There's definitely a real magic in some of the JRPGs from that 90s/early 2000s era. Only found your channel recently and these videos are fantastic, I'm looking forward to checking out more!
Man that halo 3 ad campaign had to be one of the best video game ad campaigns of all time, of all the halo media I never understood why they never made an in-universe documentary talking about the war with more of those veteran interviews, if that’s not a money miniseries for streaming idk what is
Honestly I'm not surprised it didn't do particularly well as it's quite directionless! Luckily I've honed my ideas a bit since and so I feel a bit more confident about the direction of the channel!
I could watch you explore and just get immersed in Morrowind for hours. Definitely recommend that one for a livestream, as I’m confident lots of oldies like me will totally be on board! Hope you’re feeling better lately! ❤️
I loved this, and hope you decide to do more! Your section about Halo 3 in particular was so spot on perfect. I’ve been saying for years that there just wasn’t and still isn’t anything like it. Feels like AAA games aren’t made for fun anymore. So unfortunate. I miss the days of halo 3 custom games
I'm sure I'll end up doing a couple when gaps in the schedule coming up! Yeah, it really feels like AAA games are becoming so content and feature-light these days which just makes Halo 3 all the more memorable - so much stuff in one game!
15:54 "By the time he decides to euthanise Mary, these two people were already dead. The blissful life, cruelly ruined by the awful lottery of sickness" I really liked the way you phrased it
I like this format however I definitely would like to not see it replacing long retros which clearly are a pure gold and the whole point of this channel's very existence ;)
Well you're in luck as it was really more of a one off experiment that I don't think I'll be returning to. It was a fun little "inbetween video" to make but I think it's not really what people want from the channel!
Hearing you talk about War of the Lions makes me feel vindicated. I played a bootlegged copy of Tactics Advance that I found on eBay when I was 14, so when the War of the Lions came out a couple of years later, I finally had a reason to buy a PSP. The writing has such a flavour of authenticity and quality to it, that when I saw Game of Thrones for the first time, I was immediately reminded of Tactics, due to the brilliant new English localisation on the PSP port. Yasumi Matsuno, Hitoshi Sakimoto and Akihiko Yoshida all deserve way more recognition for what they do when they combine their powers.
It certainly would be cool to do a video about every single single player SoulCalibur game - there is some quite cool modes hidden away in some of the games!
I remember really liking the single player mode of SC 2. I also remember fighting my friends not only in the game, but over who got to play with the one not giant Xbox controller. Those original Xbox controllers were basically a handicap for any player trying to pull off even a simple of combo.
Back in 2020, I also played through the entirety of Silent Hill 2 on a stream, and was completely floored by the story. It has gone on to become my favourite game of all time. I recently learned that it was heavily influenced by Tarkovsky's Solaris, which makes sense, because that movie is one of my favourite movies of all time.
I watched the whole thing... my only suggestion would be to put the game titles in the UA-cam title, because I would never have clicked on it had I not seen your Indy video, which was epic.
I think this one is a bit of a failed experiment! I made it when I was a bit more concerned about making viewers wait months for the videos but I've since realised that it doesn't matter so much! It's a shame as this was quite a fun video to do but now I think it's best left in the past! Still thanks for watching and especially for the Indy compliment - that's one of my favourite videos!
Unfortunately this was a bit of a flop although I think it's largely because it's just a bit of a vague project. Sadly it means I'll likely not do another but it was a good learning experience!
By the way, Silent Hill 2 has multiple endings. The one you got is one of the nicer ones but there are some that portray the characters’ relationships a lot more negatively as well. It’s hard to really say whether they reflect different aspects of the same relationship or entirely different timelines though.
You're spot on and honestly, I'd have liked to talk about them all but I cut a lot in the interest of keeping it brief! Maybe one day I'll dive into everything the game has to offer!
Thanks my dude! Yeah I've had it in my mind to try and produce something that would allow me to make videos more frequently but without having to compromise the process of playing/writing/editing for the big ones! Think this is an alright middle ground so it'll be interesting to see how it does!
To the ease of Soul Calibur, I had a friend come over after school one day to teach him to play Soul Calibur 2 using Cervantes so he could join a tournament on the weekend. With that one session, he came 3rd in the tournament (I was the winner of the tournament).
You just had about had me weeping with that Halo section ending. I owe my entire UA-cam fan/creator history to being sick of the industry and looking for something authentic and finding it in retro games from the 90s and then finding creator after creator nostalgizing.
Unfortunately this video was crazy unpopular when I launched it so I think it's probably unlikely that I'll make another. The one thing I am doing though is making similar videos for Patreon - I just did another that had a very similar structure called "The Licensed Games that Should Not Be"!
It's kinda understandable - it's really quite a weird format compared to the others! I think the people clearly want massive videos about a single franchise at a time!
I have always been a big fan of long-form UA-cam videos whether they're about things that I love or niche topics that I'm unfamiliar with. But I particularly love video game analysis videos, reviews, retrospectives, and deep dives. I'm subscribed to some really amazing content creators whose content I love: Critical Nobody, Errant Signal, Games As Literature, Joseph Anderson, MandaloreGaming, Matthewmatosis, Noah Caldwell-Gervais, Raycevick, Shammy, Shamus Young, and The Salt Factory to name a few. I genuinely think your work stands out as some of the finest and most enjoyable content that I subscribe to. Your narration is wonderful, your videos are consistently well edited, your audio is clear, and your passion for the topics you cover is evident in the writing. This video was no less excellent than any of your previous retrospectives, and I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed the chance to shake things up and make something new. I will always keep an eye out for your videos as they release. I hope your channel grows significantly, as the quality of your content is well and truly deserving of rivaling the biggest channels in this field of discussion.
That's honestly a huge compliment - some of those guys were huge inspirations to me and I really hope that I'm carving out my own niche and not appearing completely derivative! Thanks to my work situation it looks like I'll be going full-time with YT until the end of the year so it'll be interesting to see where it takes me!
Pyramid Head ruined Silent Hill despite him being perfect in the game he was made for. 3 and 4 not having him saved those games, but adding him in everything after was just awful.
Yeah when he showed up in Silent Hill Homecoming I just couldn't believe it - it proved they really hadn't understood the franchise they were building on!
Halo 1, 2, & 3 will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thinking about them transports me back to the early days of Xbox Live. Those days blew my mind. Xbox lan parties, playing online, clans in Halo 2, I mean it was everywhere. Halo 2 is the most nostalgic for me. Halo CE I believe to have the best campaign. Halo 3 is probably my favorite multiplayer experience in the franchise. And yeah, the Halo 3 "Believe" ad campaign has never been touched IMO. But I also remember the Gears of War Mad World trailer melting my mind back then. Excellent production, Matt.
Thanks so much my friend! I know it's possible that nostalgia is driving my perspective but there was just magic about that time. Seeing video games ascend above movies and TV in terms of mainstream relevance was something I could have never dreamed of as a kid and games like Halo 3 literally delivered on that promise. They felt like huge cinematic moments and I really hate that the industry didn't continue in that direction. The industry is still churning out fantastic games constantly but these big tent pole releases that genuinely deliver on the hype are few and far between! Thanks for commenting man and hope you're doing well!
Thanks my dude! I probably won't make them all too often (got to stay on brand sadly) but it was a really fun little side project that I'm definitely going to return to eventually!
I love this concept, man. All the games in this are great, and I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on them--but the FFT and Morrowind sections were the highlights for me. I would love to hear you talk more about Matsuno's games (or maybe even have a long chat with you about them one day!)
Absolutely my dude! A Matsuno chat sounds great haha he's virtually never missed in my opinion and the whole JRPGs are worse off without his influence! Glad you enjoyed the video and I'm sure I'll put out some more like this very soon!
Amazing video dude. I think the lengthy retro's are incredible & this style hits just as hard! So many games like these ones need highlighting - Where's the Tomba at? :P
All the games here hit that sure...I'm waiting for a broodwar/warcraft 3 video. How many p2w/microtransaction laden games exist today because they were invented or reiterated on, for free, and released on bnet way back in like 03/04? Tower defense, Dota, bunker wars, man I remember doing those like dbz saga games/rpgs and smash TV etc. I played those games for like hours when I was a young kid/teen. Still blows my mind that people literally pay money for crap that was totally free on bnet back then
We elder Millennials are a different breed altogether. I feel I've more in common with Gen X than I do my snowflake-y peers in the younger Millennial section.
Love the format even though my plan to put it on to fall asleep immediately crumbled and I'm sitting here an hour later wondering where the time went. Thanks for the great video as always
Awesome video! I love the long series retrospectives, but this one was just as good and interesting. I'm definitely a fan! I think thematic videos like this could be cool, too. Like your top 5-7 RPGs, or action adventure games, etc. Love this format and eagerly looking forward to more! Thanks for your amazing vids and hard work!
Absolutely - I think I'll do another based around classics like this one but I've been really wanting to do one focused on the RTS genre at some point!
Your point about overuse of Pyramid Head is spot on. Silent Hill as a franchise is kind of damned by the critical success and lasting relevance of SH2. The fact that Pyramid Head, a monster supposed to represent some deeply troubling psychosexual details of James' mind has become the series de-facto mascot is the prime example of that. Is it cool that you can play Pyramid Head in DBD and stab Ash Williams to death? Yes, very. But it does really cheapen the character.
Absolutely - he's terrifying because of what he represents not because he's got a massive triangle head. His character design is actually kinda stupid when you see it outside of the context of SH2!
It's funny as someone who left Blighty for Barcelona in 2015 when someone says "Sk8r culture is dead". We still rollerblade down the avenues here, and it's not just a generational or delayed thing. The Anglosphere has this habit where it finds a thing it likes that defines it for a few years, and then it moves on, but that hasn't been my experience living in Europe. The Barcelona MOMA's courtyard was literally designed as a skate rink, and I regularly see people of all ages out there. I don't think it's dead at all, it's just changed its focus. ^^
I mean to be fair to me - I was more talking about the music/fashion/pop culture that surrounded it rather than people physically skateboarding. People absolutely still do that loads in my city but it isn't really the same "community" that is was back in the 2000s!
Since you really loved Silent Hill 2 so much- I want to give my strongest possible recommendation to a gem of a game that's recently come out called Signalis. It's a love-letter to classic survival horror like Silent Hill 2 especially - with a lot of fantastic polishing touches that remove a lot of the frustrations in older titles. It's got a truly stellar and fascinating story, that is also very open to interpretation with worldbuilding and art direction that continues to just sit in my mind ages after finishing it. A truly incredible game for having been made by just 2 people!
I am actually planning on streaming it in a few weeks time! Currently were playing some Elden Ring but due to its size I'm going to have to take a break at some point and that's when I'm gonna whip out Signalis! I've managed to avoid basically every single spoiler about it so I'm very much looking forward to it!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame That's absolutely fantastic, I'll have to do my best to be there to watch! It's quickly become one of my favorite games of all time.
Absolutely - my watch later is absolutely stuffed and it means I don't get through them remotely as fast. Sometimes you just want something you can watch in a lunch break!
I love the long videos but I know youtube's algorithm only caters to kids with have attention spans of 8 seconds. I think this style is a happy medium and a good in between for those move length videos. It's nice to get multiple retrospectives on different games, even if they deserve a long video in themselves. I think it'd be a great way to figure out what people want a longer video on. Whatever plan you decide, I'll stick around to watch it. Keep up the great work, mate.
Absolutely! I just thought it would be a nice way to share some thoughts I've been having while everyone waits patiently for the next video! It's going to be an absolute doozy
I'm relatively new to the channel (I found you via your excellent Dino Crisis video) but I really enjoyed this format. Whilst they're not 'epic' 2 hours jobs, you're still covering the games well. I also like the way your giving your own perspective and views on the games themselves. Really nice work mate. You've got a new subscriber here.
Yeah I thought it would be a nice little side project to tide people over until the next big retrospective! The next one is really seriously big so I didn't want to leave everyone sitting for two months! Regardless - I'm really pleased you enjoyed it!
Maybe one day! Weirdly it really underperformed so I'm just focusing on what people want to watch at the moment (which seems to be very long retrospectives haha!)
Really enjoyed this man! I'm a sucker for the longer stuff, but it was great being able to get through this on a break working on my own longer stuff. Nice to see a lot of our favourites align. THPS Underground and the Soul Calibur series especially... I adore with all my heart.
I'm glad to hear! Honestly, as much as I love working on longer stuff it's always eaten away that I don't really put out videos frequently enough so I'm pleased that I think I've found a happy middle ground! And god yeah - I think if you're around 30ish THUG is just the most nostalgia-fueled gaming experience of all time
Well originally it was meant to be a way to provide videos in between the big releases but I'm just not sure that's needed! It was a fun little experiment but ultimately I don't think that's what people want from the channel
I have a love/hate relationship with SH2. I absolutely adore the themes it so bravely explores but at the same time the story is the most sad and depressing one in all of gaming.
What I find interesting about the Silent Hill trilogy and what those who made games under the name, that aren't Silent Hill didn't understand was, that in the trilogy the monsters represented aspects of the villain or supposed villain of the story. SH1, Alyssa, who appears to be the antagonist until you realize she's actually trying to stop what's ahppening. SH2, well that one is obvious. SH3 Claudia. Everyone after thought monsters need to represent something about the player character, but we only truly play as one villain. Though there are certain sugestions about the Origins guy so maybe he's a bad guy?
Just found your channel and instantly subscribed when I saw an entire video on Jade Empire - despite its issues that one's always had a special place in my heart. I'd love to see a video on Chrono Cross sometime, another favorite game that deserves so much more love than it gets.
That's really cool to hear! Well you are in luck as I have a retrospective planned for Chrono Trigger/Cross and Radical Dreamers - I'm aiming to have it out by the end of the year as I've got a few to work through before then! Clearly we have similar tastes!
How do you still have only 36k subs boggles the mind. All your reviews are so professional feeling with great narration and editing and have lot's of views.
Well I've only really been producing videos seriously since the start of the year so I think 36k isn't too bad! It's pretty hard to grow on YT these days and honestly my videos are quite niche - who knows what will happen in the future!
Smart way to keep the algorythm pleased while making the content you want! I can't imagine how much time it takes to make those hour long retrospectives, my 10 minute retrospectives allready take weeks haha Keep up the good work :)
Ah mate looking forward to this new series! Love the wider breathe you can cover as I'm very interested in more of your personal insights. Already liked! Cheers
It's too bad this video hasn't received more traction. I really enjoyed hearing your condensed perspective on games that won't be able to get the attention they deserve on the channel.
That's alright - it was an experiment and I learnt an important lesson about what people want! Maybe I'll make another one day if the feeling so takes me!
Oh, I loved this! I had a lot of nostalgia for many of these, and I loved hearing your thoughts and the detail you brought up--I would absolutely love to see more of these! (And I hope you don't mind this, but your thoughts on Silent Hill 2 reminded me of exactly what I love about a recently released but retro-style survival horror, Signalis. It's sci-fi, so less relatable, but it's still scarier with that creeping dread and the beautiful storytelling decisions it makes as opposed to external factors. It's also very obviously and lovingly inspired by SH2 if you ever wanting to scratch that itch with another game!)
I've actually had Signalis recommended to me quite a bit - I think I'm probably going to stream it over on the Twitch channel when I need a break from Elden Ring! It looks and sounds right up my street!
In morrowind, you could read about something in a book, search for elements of that story and actually find them. Amazing game that will never happen again. Also, no voice acting. This and the dialogue system allows very complex and deep gameplay.
@@IFinishedAVideoGame oh my lord, if you know who i meant i'm gonna die laughing XD Also, i'm gonna be real, i just finished watching all of your retrospectives. I love your content, its so informative and i'll definitely rewatch some of them. Keep up the good work 😄
Want to add to the many voices already saying this in the comments but loved this format, sure I love the multi hour long in depths but this is a great change of pace and looking forward to seeing more of them in future! All the work you put into your videos is appreciated and thank you for the content
Thanks very much! I really appreciate that as I wanted to do something a little different to tide people over until the next lengthy retrospective (which is looking like it's going to be absolutely huge). I still think that's going to be my main focus but it's been nice to hear people enjoyed this!
If I could add a few games for this kind of video, all of which I think still hold up. 1. Raptor : Call of Shadows - the tight controls and hitboxes really made this PC arcade game a hit for me. 2. Master of Magic - city building and conquering and becoming the most powerful wizard in the world. 3. One Must Fall 2097 - best fighting game ever. Almost nobody dies or is seriously hurt, because the fights are between multi story high robots piloted by remote. The pilots are all interesting, and the main game has good RPG mechanics. Did I mention each robot has its own way to play? And that the music should have won an award.
I think the reason Silent Hill 2’s monsters are in such a spotlight instead of the important story elements is that it’s much easier for people to deal with the surface level horror than the deep wounds of heartbreak and pain of the psyche. The monsters are cool because that way you can like something about a really good game without having to remember what it feels to suffer every time. On top of that, people who don’t have a point of contact with the themes and plot of the game can also interact with it in a somewhat meaningful way even if they can’t necessarily relate to the pain or the horror of what Silent Hill 2 is trying to convey.
So I enjoyed this but I hope you still do the lengthy videos too. Also a few things I noticed one, soul calibur 2 had three guest characters link spawn and heihachi, second final fantasy tactics is about two nations at war which you find out were being manipulated by demonic beings that used the church to make the majority of both nations believe these beings are saints and heroes. But I still love you take on these games keep them coming.
I watched that section back and I did accidentally make it look like it was only Link that was available! Blame my bad writing - I even used footage of Spawn from the Xbox version lmao
Had so much fun with Soulcalibur as a kid, my favorite was some mode where you made your own fighter and did story missions and walked around the world and picked fights , as my English was pretty terrible back then I made a guy that accidently used tambourines as weapons, but the moveset was so much fun, I wish more fighting games had does kid of modes especially for noobs like me who enjoys them but will never be good enough to play online
Chronicles of the Sword mode! I originally had a section about it but cut it as it had gotten too long! Also I cried with laughter about the idea of a Tambourine fighter haha
Your Halo 3 hype moment was the Skyrim launch for me. Don't get me wrong, I completely agree about the scale of the advertising living up to the hype. I also weirdly remember Halo Reach's "Never Forget" campaign where you could plot a point on a star map with your proof of pre-order that would be featured on the main menu of the game. Idk why it's gimmicky but that advertising campaign stuck out to me.
The marketing campaigns for some of those 2005-2015 games were really something. I feel like a lot of effort has been dropped by companies in that regard - presumably, it's just not worth spending the money on creative advertising when you can just stream 60 seconds at the game awards!
Love this more short-form look at a few interesting games. Would also love to hear your thoughts on the Jak & Daxter franchise! The first three games are my favourite trilogy of all time, and i kind of feel like it's a little forgotten about now
Can’t remember if it were halo 2 or 3 but this video reminds me of the copy I had in my school back that melted my copy when I blew up my bag in maths class. Good days
Great video as always! This format is great! I agree with Soul Calibur. It's so approachable but still has enough depth for hard-core fighting game enthusiasts. It was definitely my go to game in my teenage years, especially the 3rd entry in series
Absolutely! Main focus is still absolutely going to be on Lengthy Retrospectives but these are a fun little side project in between the really big ones!
You know you've found an excellent creator when my first thought was "ONLY 54 minutes?"
Haha don't worry - the next one is looking like it's going to be 10x as long
Exactlyyy
Right?!
absolutly!
I know right? The audacity of him making it under an hour 😂😂😂
This was fantastic, these types of videos also deserve their own space on the platform and it worked really well
That's great to hear - I found it a huge amount of fun to make so I'm absolutely going to make more as and when I need to!

Man that halo 3 ad campaign had to be one of the best video game ad campaigns of all time, of all the halo media I never understood why they never made an in-universe documentary talking about the war with more of those veteran interviews, if that’s not a money miniseries for streaming idk what is
Absolutely. It felt extremely clever at the time and really amped up the hype for the "finish the fight" campaign
This video deserves way more views!
Honestly I'm not surprised it didn't do particularly well as it's quite directionless! Luckily I've honed my ideas a bit since and so I feel a bit more confident about the direction of the channel!
Heya bud - love the idea although I'm still all about those mega long videos! Hope you've got more planned!
Don't worry chum. Still, plenty more planned and coming! The next one is going to be more than long enough to make up for the wait
The blissful life, cruelly ruined by the awful lottery of sickness"
I really liked the way you phrased it
Yeah that's not a bad line if I do say so myself!
I'm always surprised when I see people criticising the new script - I really like it!
This is really neat.. but I still like your long deep dives much better ;)
Much appreciated anyway, of course! Cheers.
Honestly - I do as well but I need to produce more work for the channel and this was really enjoyable to make so I think it's a good middle ground!
Soulcalibur is my favorite series of all time! I'd love if you did a longer video on it
It certainly would be cool to do a video about every single single player SoulCalibur game - there is some quite cool modes hidden away in some of the games!
I really need to get around to watching Solaris. I've heard good things but never actually sat down to watch it properly!
it wasn't influenced specifically by Tarkosvky's work, but most importantly by Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment!
Tony Hawk, Destruction Derby, Ridge Racer, Syphon Filter, Dino Crisis, Final Resistance, Heart of Darkness, Rival Schools, Soviet Strike, G-Police, Parasite Eve, WipeOut, Syndicate Wars, etc
So many forgotten PS1 games :(
I watched the whole thing... my only suggestion would be to put the game titles in the UA-cam title, because I would never have clicked on it had I not seen your Indy video, which was epic.
Oh man we absolutely need more of these.
I'm sure I'll make another soon! I've got a couple of lengthy retrospectives to get out first and then I might put together a Christmas episode haha!
Great Video again 10/10 will love to see other videos with this formatting!
I love more frequent videos over lengthy ones. But lengthy is the favorite in terms of quality. Love your work!!
Luckily the next few are going to be very long indeed! Thanks for watching!
New to the channel but absolutely loved this format!! Also, you express yourself very well!! Greetings from Germany!
Thanks awesome to hear! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I've got some big news coming up so hopefully that will be exciting as well!
Happy you just keep creating content mate. Quickfire, long essays, it doesn't matter because I enjoy your perspective regardless.
I really appreciate that! I think these two "series" really kinda work in a complimentary way so hopefully they blend together nicely going fowards!
Super good idea to review all of these games in short form in one video. Commenting for the algorithm!
That's an amazing example although damn your friend must have had quite the aptitude to win a tournament right away!
You just had about had me weeping with that Halo section ending. I owe my entire UA-cam fan/creator history to being sick of the industry and looking for something authentic and finding it in retro games from the 90s and then finding creator after creator nostalgizing.
Please do another of these. If you need any suggestions, please let me know. And always, take your time as you get well.
Unfortunately this video was crazy unpopular when I launched it so I think it's probably unlikely that I'll make another. The one thing I am doing though is making similar videos for Patreon - I just did another that had a very similar structure called "The Licensed Games that Should Not Be"!
wow it's a shame seeing that this video doesn't have that many views compared to your other videos. I'd love to see more like this from time to time
It's kinda understandable - it's really quite a weird format compared to the others!
Thank you for the video, really any format is highly enjoyable. Glad to see the channel doing so well
Thanks Oscar! Still going to focus on hyper long whole franchise videos but this was a fun little side project!
Amazing video - totally nailed the new format, and I think it's great bite sized content to drop in between your meatier long form retrospectives
That's great to hear - totally my plan for this series! Hopefully it goes down well with people!
I really enjoyed this format (although I love the longer videos too). It's super fun having a showcase of very different games.
Ah man thanks so much! Really happy you enjoyed it and man - Tomba needs to get the treatment haha!
The older millennial nostalgia in this is strong and I'm here for it lol.
Haha it's pretty much all I have at this point! Thank god it sells!
That's awesome to hear! It's a shame that this video was received so much worse than normal - it was a fun little project to work on!
I loved this. I'm take another. Same time next week? Awesome!
Unfortunately I think producing one of these a week would probably kill me!
Seeing Halo as a retrospective cuts my in a way so deep but in a way I also love that these games still get life
Given everything that's happening in the industry we can't let them fade away!
@I Finished A Video Game spoilers would be tough since the storys mostly goop ;)
I like these short retrospectives. Much more digestible compared to how many hour long essays I've got on my "watch later" playlist.
Absolutely - my watch later is absolutely stuffed and it means I don't get through them remotely as fast. Sometimes you just want something you can watch in a lunch break!
43:00 you have a house, a wife, a cat, and a youtube channel? You are not a nerd but a giga chad
That's maybe the greatest compliment anyone has ever paid me.
Just wanna say, I love these quick fire reviews!!! Would love to see another one made!!
And god yeah - I think if you're around 30ish THUG is just the most nostalgia-fueled gaming experience of all time
what you said about sc series is very well explained its about associating certain things with good times
I pray you get a million would-be subscribers who watches your content just for you. I can only imagine what used to be this video's title
Great video! Keep the long forms for sure but this is a cool concept and I would like to see more of these too!
Thanks very much! I had a lot of fun making it so hopefully there will be more in the future!
Yay! Excited for a (slightly) shorter series , I can watch this in one sitting. 🎉
I'm glad it's done and out there! :)
That music for introducing each game really threw me off I almost spit out my coffee😂
Haha I thought it was a funny choice
@@IFinishedAVideoGame It very much was
Smart way to keep the algorythm pleased while making the content you want!
I can't imagine how much time it takes to make those hour long retrospectives, my 10 minute retrospectives allready take weeks haha
Keep up the good work :)
Ah mate looking forward to this new series! Love the wider breathe you can cover as I'm very interested in more of your personal insights. Already liked! Cheers
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Hopefully it tides people over until the next big video!
Fantastic video, I love this format. Some games only need 10-15 minutes to discuss and not some bloated 3 hour analysis. Keep it up
It's too bad this video hasn't received more traction.
Loved this video so much. Thank you for sharing these games that impacted your childhood
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it!
In morrowind, you could read about something in a book, search for elements of that story and actually find them. Amazing game that will never happen again. Also, no voice acting. This and the dialogue system allows very complex and deep gameplay.
It's a seriously special game - perfect for the time and still enjoyable now
if it means you put out more content i don't mind the shorter videos but the 3 -7 hour videos you do are some of my favorite on YT.
I appreciate both formats. Either way it is high quality and interesting. And i also like the name "Quickfire", its quite catchy :)
Yeah I hoped that people would find it as ironically funny as I did considering it's still a ludicrously long video by most channels standards haha
"Talk about an elder scrolls game, in a reasonable amount of time"
*hides the 7+ hour morrowind retrospective i was gonna rewatch*
Haha that video is great! You should absolutely watch it!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame oh my lord, if you know who i meant i'm gonna die laughing XD
Also, i'm gonna be real, i just finished watching all of your retrospectives.
I love your content, its so informative and i'll definitely rewatch some of them.
Keep up the good work 😄
Want to add to the many voices already saying this in the comments but
loved this format, sure I love the multi hour long in depths but this is a great change of pace and looking forward to seeing more of them in future!
Silent Hill 2 remake is coming! I’m looking forward to it.
Hopefully it turns out okay!
I’m also so excited to see another video from your channel. You crush it man thank you for the great content.
No worries at all!
Wicked job my dude - enjoyed this alot and it was funny to see the footage of Sh2. I remember watching the streams
That was probably the most fun I had streaming on Twitch outside of the Nuzlocke runs!
Soul Calibur is good but for me the ultimate 3D Fighting game franchise will always be VF.
The 3D connoisseur choice
I loved this mini look at games I didn’t know about! More please!
Hopefully, I have time to do another before Christmas - I've been hard at work on another super lengthy video which should be out tomorrow!
Just recently discovered your videos. Brilliant! Looking forward to seeing more.
That's awesome - glad you enjoyed it! Should have another out very soon!
Great, absolutely great content once again! Keep up and for darns sake - don’t stop, love your videos
No worries my friend - no plans to stop any time soon!
I'd love a full soulcalibur retrospective 😂
I'd love to make one eventually! It's a really cool series that is probably my favourite fighting game franchise!
@@IFinishedAVideoGame just the plots alone would be wild!
This new series is fantastic, as well as the old one. I love hearing your opinions and thoughts about those classics!
Thanks very much! Next video is gonna be a mega long one so brace yourself!
Halfway through and it’s a great idea. Keep making these videos
I'm sure I'll pump out a few every now and then if people find them interesting!
Ps I'm glad to see you uploading agen bro hope life has bin treating you well and I see the algorithm is treating you nicely glad to see that.
Thanks my friend - I really appreciate it! Hope you're also doing well!
The first three games are my favourite trilogy of all time, and i kind of feel like it's a little forgotten about now
I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually! Got to work out which five games I want to cover for the next one now!
You can play Jak & Daxter (part 1) on PC these days! :) It has been completely remade from scratch and looks great.
This is a great format, would love to see more!
Can’t remember if it were halo 2 or 3 but this video reminds me of the copy I had in my school back that melted my copy when I blew up my bag in maths class. Good days
Great job on the format! You know your audience enjoys the longer runtimes, but this allows an easier flow of content I’m sure.
For sure - and mega-long videos are still the main course of the channel! Sometimes you just need a little snack though
Great video as always! This format is great! I agree with Soul Calibur. It's so approachable but still has enough depth for hard-core fighting game enthusiasts. It was definitely my go to game in my teenage years, especially the 3rd entry in series
Yeah if anything making this video really fired up my passion for the series again! Already booked in a little tournament with my friends!
This was great! I really hope you can do more of these
Absolutely! Main focus is still absolutely going to be on Lengthy Retrospectives but these are a fun little side project in between the really big ones!
