    Intel’s naming scheme is cursed and it’s the popular choice to hate them, but the i5-10600K is really solid for gaming.
    It makes spending any more on a gaming CPU hard to justify.
    Below this, I would go for a Ryzen 3300X or new i3 (pending review).
    I'm also aware of the recent (maybe temporary) price drop on the R5 3600, but I'd still either save cash and go for the 3300X, or spring more for the i5-10600K.

      @ufster81 leftover money? Buddy, the 3700x is more expensive and performs worse in games. AMD doesn't need to offer "more bang for buck" they need to offer better performance gaming (single core performance) since they are obviously behind Intel in that department.

    2:16 Ryzen 3600 can be found for $170-180 now which means that 10600k is ~50% more expensive. I can see the majority of people still prefer the Ryzens. 10600K is certainly a very good gaming CPU, but at this price.... Maybe only if you are dead set on getting an Intel, using a 2080 Ti, and gaming only at 1080p. So pretty niche situation. In every other case, the 3600 will give you very similar performance and you're left with a bit of money on the side for a better GPU, monitor, SSD etc.

    They have priced the 10600k (6 core processor) so close to Ryzen 3700X (8core processor) which is currently going for 275-290 dollars, that it becomes very difficult to recommend 10600k. Not to mention that a b450/b550 with 3700x combo would still end up cheaper than Z490 with 10600k combo + Extra 20-50 dollars for a decent air cooler.
    Plus IMO, 3700X would serve a person's gaming needs for much longer than 10600k as PS5 and XSX both sport an 8 core CPU and that would only encourage developers to optimize games for 8cores processors.

      Amir Azhar interesting dilemma, but I would definitely go Zen 2 over Zen+. It’s such a better lineup, the 3000-series. That’s if you can’t wait. Could also go low-price used and prep for an upgrade when 4000 or 5000 drops.

    • @AmpedUpTech
      @AmpedUpTech 4 роки тому +1

      @@amirazhar4424 IMO, waiting for the next gen Ryzen 4000 CPUs would be the best choice as rumour has it that the Zen 3 architecture would offer 15-20% IPC improvement over Zen 2 architecture which would make AMD take away even the "We have Best Gaming CPUs" bragging rights from Intel.
      If you cant wait till September when AMD would probably launch their 4th Gen Ryzen Processors and wanna build a PC in next couple of weeks, i would suggest you to go for Ryzen 3700X and a decent B550 motherboard like Asus Strix B550-F Gaming or MSI B550 Tomahawk and when AMD launches Ryzen 4th Gen Processors in September and after reading some reviews you find out that upgrading to 4700X makes total sense if its offering performance bump in the range of 20-25%, you can sell your 3700X for like 200-220$ and upgrade to 4700X.
      BTW, you maybe thinking that why i am not recommending buying a b450 motherboard? Well i have a feeling that the BIOS update that the B450 motherboards would be getting after all the Drama to support 4th Gen Ryzen Processors would be half hearted update as motherboard manufacturers would just wanna sell their new B550 motherboards so my recommendation would be to wait for b550 motherboards to release.

      I think 10600k will hold the most value for intel. This is the cheapest cpu you can get in their 10th gen lineup while spending less yet getting solid gaming performance.
      As we all know, almost most games are still not utilizing more cores, therefore spending more on the likes of 10700k and 10900k would be much of an overkill for "extreme gaming" cpu.
      10700k and 10900k are both in a weird spot, since they offer exceptional gaming but their productivity benchmarks are still behind. And if you add the low cost of amd cpus, it might affect more 10700k and 10900k.
      However, 10600k would be a different issue. It might be the more solid premium in gaming (premium in a way that you need to spend more for the fps gain)

    Why not compare it to the 3700X...
    3700X = $290
    MOBO = $115 (MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX)
    COOLER = $0 (I'm running the 3700X w/stock cooler and it cools it adequately)
    TOTAL = $405
    10600K = $265 (but low availability)
    MOBO = $150
    COOLER = $30
    TOTAL = $445
    Conclusion: The 3700X ends up cheaper, offers much better productivity performance, an easy upgrade path for 4th gen Ryzen (in the future), runs at a lower TDP and is only a bit slower in gaming. In addition, no one is gonna pair neither of these CPU with an RTX 2080 Ti, and I know you do that to show scaling, but if you pair it with an RTX 2060 Super or 2070 Super (which is more likely to be the choice of the consumers looking at a CPU between $250 and $300), you're looking at a very small difference in gaming performance and the better choice becomes pretty clear.
    I would only buy the i5-10600K if I was only gaming and doing nothing else. Otherwise, the Ryzen 5 3600 still wins the best value award, considering its low price.

      A high clocked CPU with a high IPC makes only sense when playing with a low resolution (like 1080p) and a very fast GPU (and if you are looking for over 130 fps). Then the Intel Core i5 10600k is the right CPU for you (together with at least a RTX 2080 / Radeon VII).
      1440p and 4k are highly GPU bottlenecked - > no need for high IPC CPU. When you are getting over, say, 80 fps be happy.
      When you got a high-mid/lower tier GPU (like below RTX 2070 super / RX 5700 xt) you won't profit from a strong CPU since all decent CPUs from the last 5 years would be strong enough to bring the GPU to its limit (CPU doesn't matter - 4c/8t+).
      So the target group for the 10600k, the 9900k, etc. is limited to people playing highly competitively with a highend GPU and with a FullHD 240 Hz monitor.
      For most people the Ryzen 5 3600 should be the most reasonable CPU, even the Ryzen 5 1600af should do the job pretty well.

Personally, I will wait for ddr5 to drop, as it is not that far off - either late 2021 or 2022, which would be a huge boost. AMD will come out with a 5nm chips, and intel should finally have 7nm by then, so competition should be even better, as Intel is kind of bad at the moment. £200 for a 3600X vs £275 for the 10600K in the uk. In fact, the direct competitor at this price point is the 3700X which has PCI-E 4.0 and with a new motherboard support for a ryxen 4xxx cpu in the future.

      3700x has a better stock cooler than 3600 as well. I guess you could go 10600KF and get an air cooler to make it even price again.
      Now that's a good match. Intel wins on gaming, AMD on productivity (except maybe Photoshop but I don't think it's noticible)
      But here's the thing: I got r7 3700x almost a year ago. Been slowly saving money to my next upgrade AND have enjoyed it's performance for months
      So if I needed an upgrade and have $256 (price of 10600K) saved up, I'd probably wait a bit for what AMD is launching next for that price range

      @@selohcin The benchmarks are clear. Intel wins the benchmarks for gaming. It's not as significant a win as AMD's win on productivity but that's not what the video is about. It's a gaming CPU review. And the winner is clear.
      It's just almost a year late to the race. I wasn't going to wait a year to get something slightly better now for the same price range. It's a solid option for whoever is doing their first build now or wasn't able to afford a $250-ish CPU last year.
      There's absolutly no reason to switch a 3700x for a 10600K. Specially if you do more than gaming. I'd get less work done and hurt my income. Disastrous decision.

    LoL, ok, so the 10600K is great for those playing at 1080p with a 2080ti, what about the 98% of people who are playing at 1080p with a 1660 super or at 1440p with a 2060 super? Should they spend almost $200 more on the processor/cooler/mobo for no tangible increase on performance when they could put that money into upgrading their GPU and actually seeing an performance boost?
    Such a joke.... Makes no sense to spend more money on a processor when you're GPU bottleneck, so recommending the 10600K without addressing that fact is far from ideal. Just like Steve from Gamers Nexus said, for the review to be relevant you need to test real world escenarios, if you're testing 1080p with 2080ti's exclusively you need to address the fact that such scenario is not representative of the vast majority of gamers. Most people buying a 2070 or better are playing on 1440p, the only exception being those who play e-sports competitively.
    Before I go, I'd like to say that games such as Far Cry 5 favor Intel CPUs, and will always carry a huge fps difference, 99% of the reviewers let their audience know when they present data from games that are outliers, and you should do it too, because those results are not representative of "gaming" on general, but are specific to one or two games. Is misleading to present information like this.

Supply and availability is also a major problem with a fairly papyrus based launch.

    I would love to see benchmarks run at 1440p. I get that he is a 1080p gamer, but many of us use 1440p high refresh rate or other setups such as 4k. The differential between CPUs in gaming tends to be less at higher resolution.

    Really wish you would've tested at 1440p or with a GPU people would actually pair with an R5 or i5 given their price point (like a 5700 XT or 2070 Super). The kind of user that'll spend $1000+ on a 2080 ti isn't looking to save $250 buying an i5 instead of an i9. They're probably not playing at 1080p either unless they're playing competitively at high refresh rates (in which case they'd get an i9 anyway just because it's A LITTLE faster).
    Also given the ITX leanings of your channel I was hoping you'd say something about ITX motherboard prices between the two platforms.

    Where I live, the 10600K is 120 euros (131.5 USD) more expensive than 3600. Realisticly would be better to use that money for a higher tier GPU, assuming theres some sort of budget going on.

    Gaming on a 3600+2070S is exactly what I do. At 1440p. Frame rates really aren't that low, I target between 90 and 120 fps in most games I play.

    As a Ryzen owner, I think a more realistic combination for the Ryzen 3600 would be an aftermarket cooler (almost mandatory as they run hot, ~ $50 US) and an x570 motherboard (~ $250 US), making the two systems almost price-equivalent.

    You’ve basically just sold be this, will be doing my first build with this by the end of the year. Do you think I should wait for the 3060 to come out of get a 2060 super

      I will wait until ryzen 4000 arrives for sure and maybe wait until September for the 3070 and 3080

      Get a Ryzen 5 3600 and spend the $150+ you saved on the CPU & cooler and get a faster GPU. Don't be an idiot and waste your money on a slower gaming system. A R5 3600 + 2070 Super will fucking ANNIHILATE a i5-10600K + 2060 Super, both at about the same total price. (Hell, you'd probably still be pocketing like $20-30 in savings on top of that).

    I'm in the market for a new gaming PC later this year and the new 10th gen from Intel looks promising. I'm just not sure if the I7 10700K is worth the extra investment over the I5 10600K. I strictly use my PC for gaming. I don't do streaming, content creation, rendering, ect.

    What’s the highest end GPU you would recommend to pair with the 3600 without bottlenecking? My thought was the 2070 super but I’m curious to know what you think.

    I'll be doing a lot of gaming ( not streaming btw ) watching movies, and also musics. So yeah, I would consider going for blue team this time eventhough I really liked Ryzen chips. Or I'll just wait for their 11th gen 10nm.

    To address some inconsistencies, hyperthreading doesn't benefit gaming nearly as much as you'd think. Clock for clock with each individual core is what matters, as well as overall IPC performance. I found this to be true when disabling SMT on my 3700x, which brought higher, and more stable framerates in games when overclocked to 4.3Ghz, similar to the 9700k at 5Ghz . Perhaps a 2% difference at most between the 2 processors. However, not stating this to be the case with the 3600, but I'd say it's worth a test with SMT disabled against the 10600k to see the difference, if any. Because if the 3700x performs better without SMT, it does make you wonder how the more budget friendly 3600 will fair.

    Any idea how viable this chip will be for SFFPCs? I'm curious how it will perform with a NH-L9i or a Jonsbo HP-400 under load. It seems like either could potentially handle the thermals at stock if not undervolted, right?
