Layering in SG weather is madness. Yes, it's an excuse but it's a damn good one. Many 'fashionable' people from Europe or anywhere else further afield dress down when they move here. I would love to wear jackets, pullovers and coats but I'm not about to sacrifice comfort and utility just for aesthetics.
Nope, lots of ways to style without jacket or coats. You just need to find your fit and style.
True, I love just my t or polo and shorts
Ayden Sng gives me Benedict Goh vibes….. too much alike!! 😅 70s kid here😅
Ayden is so well-spoken and has interesting insights! Get him back for more episodes~
The weather plays an important role with our fashion. Also why quote NYC and Tokyo, temperate countries which have a much bigger variation in temperature/climate and with more layering to play with? Does not seem like an equal comparison on paper. Why not choose another populated city based in sub-tropical or tropical weather like Miami or Bangkok? You mostly see all fashionistas in Singapore probably have the luxury of being in indoor, air-conditioned, artificial environments. Why should these people who stay mostly indoors have a right to go at us who prefer to dress down in shorts and T-shirts because its 35 degrees Celcius outside? Just curious, are there any people here who dress themselves up even if it means sweating like they just came out of a shower?
they rather drip than dress appropriately for 'hot and humid all year round'
Take it easy girlfriend
FACTSSS
When it comes to females, they have more options in the form of dresses. Not the same for guys. If we reveal too much we just look like girls. Simplest way is to look at what foreigners wear when they come here... like us, shorts and simple t. Even though they can come from cold areas and more experience with variations.
No worries, we are happy in just our T-shirts or polos
One way of expressing how one can look different is through exercise. If you look fit and good, your face is slim, whatever you wear even the simple ones, you'd look better than the average person.
Only issue is when sg men go on a bulky phase and never leave it...
Unless your face also like ma dong seok, most men look like marshmallow men even being in the gym if they're fat muscular
Some have their faces lose fat the last and that'd mean a very low fat %. Not possible for everyone. Ultimately, genetics still.
@@beepbeep5153 can do. But then if u become very skinny then that means no muscle. And again i doubt ppl say skinny teenager look is good looking 😂 need to be very dedicated to clean bulk
As a guy my mentality is well align with Ayden! Rarely i see a guy like that cause most guys too chin cai
An interesting topic to talk about ! Good job to Ayden and Sonia chew 👍🏻
I am very clear of my style and super confident in it. I'm one of those who wear muji and Uniqlo clothing out, and army shirt and pants at home. Haha
Congrats Sonia on clinching the Best Host/Presenter Award recently!! Rightly well deserved from the enthusiasm and good vibes from every Men’s Explained episode🎉🎉 and props to the clarity team behind the scenes too👍

@@Brawler2818 why do you say that?
If normal people wear his setup in the video (double denim) trust me they will sweat more than in a sauna.
However, even when it comes to single layer clothing for men, people can definitely achieve a lot more than the unsaturated dullness you see everyday.
Congrats on clinching the Best Host/presenter Award on the 27th Asian Awards.
Ayden, u look dashing
“I really want to clear my life to make it so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything except how to best serve this community.” Quote from Steve Jobs who famously wore the same black turtleneck, blue jeans and New Balance sneakers every day.
Exactly. Many successful people do the same. I disagree with the guy in video because men like that although flashy, they lack so much and lack substance.
"Zuckerberg dropped out of college to chase his dreams, why can't I" vibes.
Come on bro, 99.99% of those badly dressed Singaporean dudes are that way because they're lazy and don't want to put in effort, not because they'd spending that time on more meaningful things.
mate if i were to wear multiple layers in Singapore, you will have me in fashionable attire but drenched in sweat patches
Actually man also put a lot of effort in skincare nowadays, especially korean guys😎
Basic tees from Club Monaco are great (not the local stores but from the US).
Club Monaco is everything to me! Unfortunately... their clothes are not well appreciated enough here!
He speaks really well
A man's decision to me comes down to a few things,
1)does the shirt fit me? fit is KING
2) on what occasion does this fit in?
3)does the fabric and quality stays after putting it in the washing machine for multiple washes (dry cleaning is a hassle and a waste of money for most guys, we generally don't care unless it's a custom fit and you just have favourites that u don't want it to be damaged.)
4)SG weather is a MAJOR factor, wearing something thick while wearing something nice and sweating saltily inside is not a good feeling.
3 is very important
so this miniature steamer that ayden mentioned… can drop the link here?
Look at the countries around the Equator, everyone who lives in a tropical country looks the same with T-shirt and shorts lol
This video is so aimed at someone I know of - no sense of style and no personal grooming (never trim nose hair and also never go dentist) 😅
Great episode. We want more of Ayden and we want more of Sonia! Give those 2 a talkshow or a makeover series! 😄

Duh...we all go to the gym so that when the latest tshirt/shorts/berms/pants that Uniqlo launches we can rock it.
I feel inner qualities like character, attitude etc are much more important than external appearances.
That goes without saying
@@millyeleven9969 not for everyone. Some are very concerned with strangers' appearance, others not at all.
@@hannesRSA thats expect what goes without saying
Yes guys please trim your nosehair omg. Or trim all the hairs everywhere haha
7:50 I can get ready in 30 sec to go out. Just need to wear socks and shoes. I wear same inside and outside
I'll just ask one simple question, where else can men shop in sg to get nice clothing that is not designer? The reason why Uniqlo is the default choice is because there's just not many alternatives.
buy online. Shein and shoppee are both good for both price and variety
@@junlcs6449 thats supporting fast fashion u fuck
H&M
Zara
For me I buy my clothes mostly from Zara and Yishu(Raffles Link Mall).
I will NEVER buy and wear anything from Uniqlo or H&M. Those are ugly imo.
I walk 300 metres to the train station already sweat, how to layer sia.
I think for men, you just need a hot toned body, done deal. If you got pretty face, your body not hot, you still win.
I feel personally attacked by the hush puppies underwear comment 😂
20:40 when you reveal what you really think
Ppl with the surname 'Sng' is so rare.
I heard 1 famous guy in fashion said: people who really is good in fashion, you dont look at how they dressup, you look at how they dressdown

It's better to be clean and healthy than trying to look good on the outside and everything is rotten on the inside.
denim jacket like it's 15c outside
Weather hot - why wouldn't people dress down duh? Just wanting to look good while not being practical? Some people would but for the general population nah.
Most guys just need to follow few simple tips:
1. Fit is everything. Spend 80% of the times get all yr clothing fit, u r almost there.
2. Timeless neutral colors and classic pieces can create enuf combinations for most guys in most occasions. Ignore the latest trend unless u have interest in fashion and knows yr style well. Not many guys can really pull off streetwear or oversizing style but most guys will look good with timeless pieces. Rather than thirt, a well fitted polo is a better choice and etc..
you forget...u dress how nice ur face cui also back to square 1.
@@xxDxxism you work out lo, hard to be lean muscular and ugly.
True
@@xxDxxism if cui just style ur hair so u look neat and nice or at least look like u know what ure doing or someone with a higher status haha
I thinks it’s both sides from what I see. Guys in SG wearing Army Singlet and girls wearing oversized Acme De La Vie Tee. Total disaster.
Lucky my son not so strawberry shortcake 😂😂😂
Pros:
- preferential treatment at work
- catfishing a partner who can't look through make up
Cons:
- lose 20 mins a day
- unapproachable
- more expensive
Singapore needs to evolve into a men’s’ fashion hub.
lol look at all the tropical countries. All these countries dress down. This is because all the "nice looking" clothes are all made for less humid and sweaty climates. Look at European countries summer fashion. MAJORITY of them are wearing long sleeves. Try wear it in Singapore come I dare you
Wait long long. The weather is god. We depend on earth.
Also singapore more collectivist society instead of individualistic so more conformity and uniformity like what they teach in sch also all same same
Late to this ep but lol at how people blame the weather as an excuse to be ugly aka "comfy" 🙄 Honestly I think the younger guys are more open to dressing up/personal care and styling these days. Hope that it will carry into the future, so sick of the normalizing unpresentable-ness idea in SG esp for men 💪😔
Sorry to hurt your eyes in public.
proper fitting clothes the end
location drop of the hairstylist please!!

I don’t put any perfume or deodorant. It make me feel vomit
If woman wear makes up not for others but for themselves, couldn’t men wear comfy clothes for themselves not for others too? Just a question
for pear shape girls, u need to bulk up the shoulders. i.e. use capsleeves, jacket/cardigan, etc. just aim for the 'hourglass' shape.
(same concept as how guys go for the 'V' shape)
Some of the most boliao topics discussed on this channel.
You can't really be a fashionista of you're wearing CK Jeans....in washed black denim...
You can only call it you're own personal style if it is self purchased brands and not sponsored.....
Time to reveal the boyfriend...sonia 😊
We men don’t have much options. Uniqlo is more promising. And the rest are meh. We men don’t have blog shop stores like woman. We don’t have lovet, editor market, love bonito and etc. He recommend to buy from specific designers? For a typical singaporean to go such extend is crazy. Siao is it. Also, cant even try the fit and so expensive. No money like celebrity.
What happened to your voice?
yes to grooming, hygiene, looking and smelling clean (haircut, scent or even just deodorant, short nails) and paying attention to clothes and style. working out to look healthy.
but generally no to make-up. because that's crossing the line from substance into form, and into 'vanity' zone. (exception is where if your job requires it, then that's more of substance/necessity... another exception is if you're gay - then okay, because guys are visual creatures, so if you want to find a partner then no choice.)
If I dress like him or other male fashion icons to look good, then all that money and effort would go to waste cos within 10 mins, all that clothing is going to be soaked in sweat and whatever good-looking shape it originally had, it wouldn't still be in it. So why would I want to go to all that effort to look worse?
Men with makeup? Sorry, that's not personal grooming. That's vanity. Ayden may have his points, but don't forget, he's in the media and entertainment industry, of cos he has to look good. Even the average Joe when he has to appear on tv, the studio will apply some basic makeup on him. I know, cos I've been on tv shows before. And for your wedding photoshoot, the grooms also get makeup. It's to bring out the details. But for everyday living....c'mon. Gimme a break. Pay for house, support family, support elderly parents, children's education, tuition blah blah blah....and now inflation.....already so many things so much more important to spend our limited resources on, still want to spend on men's makeup? Try telling that to a blue-collar worker making less than $3k a month. He may not even have enough to pay for regular dentist visits! A lot of the pointers brought up in this clip is very very specific to the beauty, entertainment, media and creative arts industry. The other industries......a lot of the men will probably go, "Meh."
And Prawn is a gay term. Haha Ayden, we already know you are but pls be more subtle
Same also with his colleagues Romeo Tan + Elvin Ng 💀
I didn't know. I thought this originated from China or smth. So basically he's saying overseas gays' view of Singaporean gays?
Bcos I was thinking eh majority of sg guys don't really gym or work out tbh. They do exercise through sports
But if he talking about gays then it would make sense. Cos he looks like a gay that would work out
Actually it's getting normalised that straight guys are wear makeup esp in Korea, thrs bb cream kind of makeup which gives a more natural finish!!
First of all the woman asking questions is extremely superficial in a sense where it’s about appearances and not the character that actually contributes 80% in appearances. Secondly, the guy is posing 100% of the time. I know these kind of guys too well. When shiy hits the fan, any problem arises and they are put in an uncomfortable situation, even if it’s reasonably uncomfortable, the guy will preserve his looks and reputation the most and walk away, making it about being independent rather than being a good friend, or human to others. This interview only had one agenda, to “attract” young and dumb people to believe that they have depth when it comes to fashion. Notice how none of them answered to short men, weather & fashion issues, nor provided any depth to answering these questions they raised. Every single answer and question was to bring a superficial attention to THEM

28:49 I don’t iron my clothes. I don’t care what others think.
Me neither, never had to iron myself though.
U think we hustlers have time to dress up n look good? We're too busy at work. Ain't got time for that shit bro.. we dress-up only on special occasions.
For special occasions, I just put on my blazer over my t-shirt
Layered dressing in Singapore? What is he on about... dressing with layers in Singapore isn't an option for anyone with this heat. I think if he knew anything about fashion he would talk about mixing lighterweight fabrics (linen etc) and building a capsule wardrobe. Please pick a guest that actually knows what he's talking about.
Agreed 👍
Any alternative to a denim jacket? It's hot lol
@@ksy6177 I don't get how you can possible wear a denim jacket unless you're indoors where its air conditioned. It's Singapore....
Tbh I think okay to have layered clothing in SG, can choose to take it off in the heat and put it on in air conditioned environment
he thinks he lives in a cool climate
Lol if a man were to talk about female fashion, but not vice versa??
Oral hygiene..dress well I can understand....wear make up ??? Come on lah
Oral hygiene is very important. I saw people suffering for bad oral hygiene .
Especially for Asian guys.. already have good skin.

WHY DELETE MY TRUE COMMENT?
if a person is ugly, they ugly. Dress how nice also liddat. This whole thing is bogus
If men are short.. no reason to try anything else, except high boots.
People who never visited war zone Ukraine and 3rd world somalia this is how they behave
Haha idk why ur comment made me crack up so much.
It reminds me of the Korean movie parasite. I get a vibe these ppl act nice to each other like they r creme de la creme but they will tear each other apart when push comes to shove. Idk why.
