I just want to say, i used to make your recipes as a teenager and loved them and your humorous and fun take on cooking. Im now a married mom of 3, and i just came across your videos again after 7 years and your recipes are still wonderful and you have the same great attitude. I love that even the structure of your videos havent changed. It warmed my heart to hear even the tune at the beginning hasnt changed. Keep up the great work chef john. You and your recipes are a delight to have.
I remember the days of sunshine cheesecake. And while everyone praises me at parties for my cheesecake these days, I still give all credit to this man who encouraged me to step in the kitchen over a decade ago. “Who cares if it cracks, it’ll still taste great”
I started following your blog in late 2000’s. I was in my 20’s, now 40’s. Love your humor and recipes. I learnt cooking from your blog and videos. Thanks.
I feel like this would also be excellent stuffed with pesto, prosciutto, and gruyere cheese and garnished with some freshhhhly grated Parmigiano Reggiano for a savory take 😋
9:54 I can't believe you moved the center magical cranberry!!! I had the beginnings of a very magical story of how that cranberry had struggled to be the star of your star bread 😂
500 years from now people are gonna sneak a magical cranberry into the center of their starbread and tell the story of how the first one just "appeared" out of nowhere. Just a legend of course. No one knows where the tradition comes from. But the legend lives on.
John, I have been watching your videos since like 2012 and I have to say, your rhymes that you come up with for filming are fantastic-as well as everything you make! Thank you for the instructions throughout the years, laughs, and helping me impress my relatives and co-workers with your recipes. I hope you have a Merry Christmas & and even Happier New Year.
cannot express how happy i am to have randomly remembered this channel from when i was a kid in primary school + the content is still just as consistent
I always look forward to your videos, Chef John! You truly taught me how to cook, and I owe so much of my success in the kitchen to you. Before discovering your channel, I struggled to follow recipes and often ended up with disappointing results. But through your transparency, humor, and those reassuring reminders that there’s no single “perfect” outcome, you gave me the confidence to experiment and cook with joy. Thank you for making cooking approachable and fun 😊
You are the Guy Pardo of how far with the fruit and nut mixture you go…. Couldn’t help myself. Merry Christmas John and everyone in Food Wishes land. 😂😊🎉🎄🦌🎅🧑🎄
I made this today for Christmas Eve dinner tomorrow night. I made two of them, and I'm glad I did because I couldn't help but try a piece still warm out of the oven, and boy is this so good. I chopped up lightly salted almonds, dried cherries, dried apricot, dried dates, and dried cranberries in the cuisinart for the filling, so I went "off script"", but the results are great.
Great instructions! I hope this encourages people to try making this recipe. Yeast breads are very forgiving (except for don't have the liquids too hot), so the novice can feel very accomplished with the finished product. Looks impressive and delicious!
This looks amazing! Usually I bake a sweet christmas bread called "vianočka" for the Christmas day breakfast but this year I need a star on the table 🤩🤩
I want to make this. I want to make so many variations of this! I want to do it without nuts. I want to do it with chocolate instead. I even want to do a savory version with olive tapenade instead of cinnamon and sugar. I am officially inspired friend!
I hear you ! I often make a different version of a CJ recipe, he always inspires me . This one’s gonna be savory and dusted with cayenne. Might use black garlic to spread…
My culinary school bread teacher told us to scrape everything out, add a smear of oil and add it back in the same bowl, because why make more dishes. So, I think you're good.
When mentioning the degree temperature for things, can you add a notation or other popup on screen that provides the conversion and information about the temperature? Since I *know* you're using Farenheit but some people from my neck of the woods may forget that and use celcius - and 100-110 degrees is boiling point in C, so that milk would be waaaay too hot for the use lol! I also suggest a version where you use chocolate spread in the middle if you're not into cinnamon and nuts/fruit - the chocolate spread version is SO tasty!
OK! you either waxed and removed hair from your hands mid video, or those are not your hands. At 2:05 the hand and finger hair does not match the hand and finger hair at 2:33 and 2:44! You are caught my friend! Who has been doing your cooking?
Dear Chef John, I love your recipes, but please, please, in the name of europe and 85% of the worlds population: use the metrical system! It is confusing and tiresome for us to convert all the cups, teaspoons, pounds etc to an understandable amount. All my best wishes Thank you!
I love your videos and presenting style John, but I have to say that it's very disappointing that you were too afraid to call it a Christmas Star, replacing it with "Holiday Star". You're better than that.

Same❤😊❤
He is the best.
I've been incapable of making a home-made pizza without eggs on it after watching the egg pizza video in the before times.
You're a woman lol

Heaven is just a pastry away!
Chef John is literally the best human being.

Yesss, or Pizza flavours…. Or fig honey and blue vein cheese, or …..
I have definitely seen a savory christmas tree done in a similar fashion. No reason not to try it with this!
Bet this would be really good with apple pieces and apple sauce!
I like the apple theme. How would you cut the apple pieces? Maybe small dice
Apple butter with thin slices of apple.
I regularly do cinnamon rolls with finely diced apples. GO FOR IT!! It's the best!
You are the star, of this holiday bread!
9:54 I can't believe you moved the center magical cranberry!!! I had the beginnings of a very magical story of how that cranberry had struggled to be the star of your star bread 😂

That line about tan lines on the nude beach had me in stitches.

I did this with pesto filling and puff pastry instead of bread dough. It was perfect!
I think I can do this .... I think I can do this.... Thanks Chef John !
This star bread will make any supper even more special. The presentation is impeccable and the taste must be wonderful. Thanks for sharing! ✨🍞

Merry Christmas John and everyone in Food Wishes land. 😂😊🎉🎄🦌🎅🧑🎄
I made one of the savory versions a few years back. It is true what Chef John said. It looks fine/impressive after it is baked!
I was thinking that my family would probably prefer a savory version, May I ask what you used in yours?
I have trouble to post. Try go to King Arthur baking site and search for savory star bread.
The one I baked is more of Italian style. Happy Holidays!
🙏🏾❤ we love you, Chef John. Happy Christmas ❤
I haven’t baked in half a lifetime but I’m going to make this.
I am so making this as gifts. I made Cranberry butter a few weeks ago that I will add a thin layer of before the fruits & nuts. Thanks!

Looks impressive and delicious!
I made a bread very much like this for gifts over 50 years ago. I’d forgotten about it. Thank you for jogging my memory.
I love when Chef John uses the freakishly large shower cap to cover the dough :)
This looks amazing! Usually I bake a sweet christmas bread called "vianočka" for the Christmas day breakfast but this year I need a star on the table 🤩🤩
Maestro le recomiendo que lo rellene con azucar, canela, cacao, ralladura de naranja y chispas de chocolate! 🤤😍😁 saludos desde Chihuahua!✌️
I am thinking a smoked turkey, swiss cheese/cream cheese herb mix and cranberry chutney bread!
That sounds amazing

Ooooooo olive tapenade👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻that’s a great idea too 🎄🎄🎄🎄👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Chocolate or Nutella would be the bomb!
@ nutella really would be amazing, but I would eat the whole thing and no one else would get any. …hmm, I see no downsides 🤣
Works for me!
Oh my gosh, that is SO pretty. What a beautiful gift!
Looks delicious! Merry Christmas All!
I made a version of this also exactly once, using Nutella as the filling. So delicious and beautiful!
Chef John, Great job as usual my friend. This being made tomorrow.
A delightful holiday star-shaped bread that's perfect for festive occasions!
Holiday Star Bread from the internet's All-Star Chef.
Great ones make it look so easy.
It's beautiful!🌟
How beautiful- what a work of art!
Love your videos. Hope you have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Merci beaucoup, Chef John.
great video as always Chef John!
Thank you Chef John, I have seen this recipe a few times but wasn't sure I wanted to make it until this video 🌟
Sooo coooooool!!!!
I saw this on great british bake off
I make this with cranberry orange jam between the layers. It is so pretty and tasty too. I’m going to try yours next.
Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful and fun to make!
This would make such a nice gift :)
Looks absolutely delicious!
Looks yummy 😋
I bet this would be delicious with little pieces of apple in place of or with the raisins, etc.
I got the first upvote and the 1st comment! 🏆
Chef John RULES!!!
Congrats! Yes, he does! 😊 happy holidays to you
I was just looking this up to make a few days ago. Good timing!
from here on out, im shapping my dough into trapezoids
That's beautiful.
It would look pretty with the shiny sugary granules sprinkled on .... in colors!!
Or white pearl sugar to resemble hailstones, lol Fika time
Delicious!! ❤
👍😍😍😍👍 Looks so beautiful & delicious! Thank you!
Will give it a try!
I'd bet this would be good decorated with Swedish pearl sugar.
❤ AWESOMENESS! ❤
Dough is very similar to that for a Swedish cardamon eggnog wreath. In fact I think I’ll use that dough and construct it this way.
Thank you
Had this just Saturday at a Friendsmas!
That looks delicious! Now, how am I going to screw this one up. I always find a way.
Looks very tasty, I hope i get an opportunity to make it!
I think this would be amazing with a chocolate filling…!!
Because you are the Rosanne Bar of your Holiday Star😂
You are the Pat Benatar of your Star.

I really want to try it. What cardamom you used black or green?
Chef John confirmed to be a monster who bathes in 100°C water :/
How would you add in some sourdough starter to make the bread a touch tangy?
Always takes 2 tries at least- will try 😂👩🏽🍳🥂🎀
Did Chef John watch this years Great British Bake Off Christmas episode :)
Click and like before watching. I have made it once with Nutella. Let me see your version.
Someone's been watching a certain British baking compilation. 😀
Something similar to this was on this years holiday great british baking show
Christmas star bread.
Funny… this looks exactly like a British Baking Show episode we just watched!
Could you possibly spread a thin layer of cream cheese on the second layer.
Why are there voices in my ears whispering "bacon as a filling" and "mince meat (as in mince pies) as a filling"?
Anyone think you could make this into something savory? I’m feeling sausage and sage and feta or something f? Tips?
100-110° ... in freedom units?
Skip the sugar and use feta & chopped spinach, dill and cream cheese mixture for brunch…
Probably good, not to fill to edge. It allowed for neater bread tips.
You are after all the doughy Anna Pavlova of bready supernova
Any one Else who gets the french translation by default?
Cant change the language
If you add ctispy bacon instead of almonds...forget about it.

All my best wishes
Thank you!
He's giving you great recipes with thorough directions, in an entertaining package. You can't do a little math, so he doesn't have to?
Or quit complaining and use google.
Hello John
Could you please remove the automatic translation of the video? I want to hear your voice and not an awful Italian speaking robot. Thanks
I like your recipes but I can not for some reason tolerate your cadence of how you speak - I just can't
If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. At least, that’s what I was taught by my very polite mother.
Why do you sound like that lol
eww.
I love your videos and presenting style John, but I have to say that it's very disappointing that you were too afraid to call it a Christmas Star, replacing it with "Holiday Star". You're better than that.
Seriously??
Because not everyone celebrates Christmas.
