I hate how the doctor said it was a bad thing. I don't hate being deaf, there's nothing wrong with being deaf you just have to make adjustments to how you'd raise them
I can see what he means though. But it’s complicated. I was born disabled but i still live a full life. And have had experiences I wouldn’t have had, had I been “normal” I cringe saying that but that’s the most appropriate word. But most people think of disability such as being deaf as a hinder ace or as the doc said- bad thing. It’s like if you moved to a new country and didn’t speak the language. You feel like an outsider and have to overcome huge obstacles and find resources that you can understand that may be few snd far between. So you are right it’s not a bad thing it’s just a HUGE challenge and obstacle.
Yeah? So you wouldn’t have preferred to not be deaf? You really going to claim that? You wouldn’t prefer your kid not being deaf? We both know that a deaf life is a harder life. If you had a choice, you’d want your child to not have to make adjustments to live a normal life. You’d want them to have every possible opportunity in life. Would it be bad if your kid was born with no legs? Would you hate if your doctor said it was a bad thing? After all, you’d just have to make adjustments. Deafness is an abnormality, that puts you at a distinct disadvantage in life. The doctor had every right to say it was a bad thing.
