I noticed in a lot of these videos, when you are rotating in an endgame, you will somewhat often travel to frontside without covering your head. You rarely get punished for it, so it's clearly a result of some awareness you have.
My question is: How do you know when height, or players above you, aren't looking at you?

You really don't know when they are looking at you, they tend to look at 2nd height and players in the open, so I would jst say to block your head
