  • Energy development (oil & gas, coal, uranium) is intensive in the area surrounding Chaco Culture
National Historical Park in Northwestern New Mexico. Chaco NHP is designated as a World Heritage
Site by the UNESCO and is one of the finest examples of Puebloan culture centers in the
Southwestern United States (inhabited AD 850-1250). Our video shows the encroachment of oil & gas development on Chaco.

While I have never been to Chaco as yet, I have driven Hwy 550 numerous times and seen the growing activity by the O&G leases. Protecting Chaco Canyon and the ruins while preserving the dark skies is very important. Why the BLM is not consulting with the Native Americans leadership is curious. I look forward to my opportunity to visit Chaco soon and have it preserved for many future generations to enjoy and learn from.

Neat place. I visited once right after a snowstorm. Had the place to myself all day. Only went back to the visitors center to warm up and dry out.

Oil companies need to stay away from such sacred, historical and cultural sites. I have traveled, camped and hiked around Chaco Canyon many times. It is a magical place. LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!

I'm here to voice my support for the Puebloan people in their never-ending struggle to fend off ruthless exploitation of their cultural values and resources, and urge the defense of not only Chaco, but all sacred sites...
