I unpackage all my bullion.. I like to handle my metals from time to time. It's still silver and gold.
yes, good to touch and handle them
Yes me too. I'd rather buy the silver with character than in the package or tubes.
My silver is in ammo case (air tight) in zip lock bags with silicate gel packs. Then I tie it to a weather ballon and send it above the atmosphere.
At the end of the day silver is still silver. Unless there are numismatic value to them. One ounce of silver is still worth one ounce of silver. ugly or pretty. That's just my take on this.
Exactly what I think , I buy my silver cheap , I don't care ugly , pretty , when the time comes a loaf of bread , and a gallon of milk will be worth an oz of silver weight period .
I agree with you 100% a lot of people waste a lot of money on individual capsules, and different kind of holders that you would want for a coin with numismatic value. I buy my tubes in bulk so that way i get the best bang for my buck.
Anytime I have needed to sell to my local dealer they have never had an issue with age spots. I don't understand what the deal is. Stacking them is all that really counts. If you are stacking eagles there is nothing better. Eagles and Maples have been the only coins my local shop will pay a premium over the spot.
Exactly. They mint too many of these to have any more than a melt value. I have sold some tarnished ones and the dealer didn't blink an eye.
Rotten3ullet That might be valid for the US but not for other countries. A lot of European LCS and PM dealers pay more for coins in BU condition. If I can get 2-3 Euros more for each coin (40-60 Euros more for a full tube) I have no issue with capsules and keeping my coins safe and dry.
I love your attention to detail regarding each type and kind of storage method and showing the littleton book as well! I have a few of those and the information you shared is good to be aware of
I appreciate you showing all the options out there also with pros and cons each and mentioning price point roughly for each as well. The next video, I would appreciate seeing “how” you store these options, thoughts on cardboard flips with non PVC?
Thank you for the information, I was just starting to look at the best way to store silver. I don't have any ASE's - yet - but will keep this in mind!
ASEs. Love them. Thank you for sharing Silver Seeker.
Thanks for the helpful information.
ASEs are beautiful. I need to get some!
Nice informative video. Thank you
Hey silver seeker, great video, very informative
I have the Littleton album as well, and the same thing happened to my Eagles that I started collecting in the 80's & 90's, I started collecting up again in the last 10 years and considering to switch out to a different storage method or even another type of album.
Gotta love the ASE, they are one of my favourite coins
I've had coins tarnish in the tubes also. Only use air tight capsules now. Order in packs of 25 for $12 at amazon
Yeh, I use capsules for mine as well because i dont order a full tube every time I purchase them. I, for one, dont like those cheap plastic flips or them all in one tube. There is no right or wrong way unless your neurotic and wear black gloves and are scared of toning
I am very new to this but I saw a silver eagle and it looks awesome and I love to collect them I’m 53 and just started thanks for all info! I already purchased a fake and was very disheartening but I love the look of these coins!
Im a stacker but have converted into a slight collector but only at stacking prices. Keeps it fun and not feeling like im overpaying!
Thanks Seeker, great vid! I recently started buying RCM Tubes, for my Maple Leafs & a few capsule tubes. Take care!🍻👊
So many newbie silver, gold and gun owners 😶 good on our community here schooling them up 👌
Great informational video. I have a complete set which I store in individual plastic containers not 2x2. No toning on any of them, still look like the day I put them in.
Do you mean capsules? What type of capsules?
The Littleton toned coins look awesome!
Yea like I said in the vid I liked most of them actually lol
I need to purchase some tubes. I have all mine in flips. Thanks for the info
cool video Seeker , stay safe , stay healthy my friend
So, toning on silver in a SHTF situation really doesn’t matter. But there is also the possibility you might be transacting with your silver in a normal environment. Planning for that possibility also makes sense, so the info here is great! Thank you sir.
I like to keep some constitutional silver, a couple ASEs, and a bar out on my desk so I can touch silver. But the rest I try to store clean and dry. I don’t need to look at all of them if I can hold a few.
I keep mine in a 3 gallon bucket under my sink in my bathroom, so much moisture💧🌊💧
Very nice coins in the album Seeker !!
Nice toners seeker!
I am current6ly filling one of those Littleton Silver Eagle books. Thank You because now I am going to get one of those Dansco Albums
Dansco is harder to find...
Silica cat litter, tea bags, and a stapler are a cheap alternative to making your own desiccant bags, .....old ammo storage trick.
Interesting how each year toned differently, despite the same amount of air getting to them. Even though they are all .999, it would appear that the .001 difference indicates slightly different impurities, and therefor different sources for the silver. The one with all of the rainbow hues looked like that .001 was mostly copper.
I've tried storing them in flips, air-tite capsules, and mint tubes. I prefer BU condition but despite my desire for beautiful coins, I still think mint tubes are the way to go. They take up a lot less space in mint tubes.
I plan to do a similar video like this. Probably will do one in 2021 then 2 more (one in 2030 and one in 2040) to show different forms of storage methods. The follow ups will showcase how well each method does at anti-tarnish preservation.
Good information do toning devalue the coin
Haven't been lucky enough to purchase a whole tube yet. All the ASEs I do own are in air tights.
Great info video. I hate albums plus it takes up too much space in my safe. It’s just best, I think, to put the first 20 years of the Eagles in a mint tube and the next 20 years in another mint tube. This will save you money and storage space in your safe. Mint tubes can be had on eBay for $3 to $4 each.
I store all my my silver in food safe bags that I then vacuum seal. I have never had an issue with oxygen toning since.
Wow lovely toned ASE’s but I understand your point my father is one whom would be mad to find his eagles toned he like the white color better
I couldn't care less about toning!🔥🔥🔥🔥
I used to put them in the individual plastic casings for each eagle. But it's actually not ideal because the casings require a lot more space and costs more than 5 dollar tubes. Tubes are my go to storage for these coins
All.my rounds are I airtight capsules there the generic but still good ones and in a capsule to let box so double protected
Nice
I have some special ones and a year set that are in separate airtites. Otherwise I have the mint tubes for the bulk of them.
I have a tube of random year/cull ASEs I keep handy especially for care-free handling. My Do Not Touch tubes are out of reach. My year/date set has recently been completed, so it'll be a few years before I'll likely know how they fare.
Great video! My ASEs are stored in the U.S. Mint tubes. These tubes seem rugged, and seal fairly tightly. However, I noticed 2 tubes were shorter than the rest, and were not sealing completely. Has anyone else run into this?
Just buy dollar tree chalk and put your silver with it. Cheap way to prevent tarnish.
Ever notice some of the ASE mint tubes are too short and the lid doesn’t seal well at all? I just picked up several tubes of 2007 ASEs and every tube was too short and the lid wouldn’t seal. Have you seen that?
How do you clean the coin after fingers have handled the coin?
Your video was helpful for me because I only have a small collection so far and have several various size coins which makes it kinda difficult protecting them well enough.
I like the Air-Tites fit but was concerned about removing a coin when I choose to submit any for grading.
Thanks for super informative video.
👍🏽
You leave it in the air-tite
@@paulmcckain3420 My first comment was a couple of years ago and I’ve figured it out now. Thinking back on what I said then I probably was considering putting similar coins in tubes instead of the air-tite holder. However, occasionally I like to look at them and take them out to talk about my coins to my grandkids.
Thanks for your suggestion.
the pvc flips are the ones that come w the coins when ordering from sdbullion I guess. I just got storage for mine today and it is cardboard storage holder for 40 mm coins, if you get these have the staples and gloves ready, because you definitely need to staple them.
All good ideas 😁🇺🇸
My bars came in mint sealed plastic, individually wrapped, how good are those for airtight?
I plan on leaving them in the original seal if they are airtight
Its bullion not numismatics guys. Silver is silver its going to tone eventually.
I use polypropylene bags for cards like teambags then store everything in a weather proof storage box thats gasket sealed and waterproof! The boxes aren’t cheap but man do they keep everything you store in them pristine.
I keep some bullion in airtight capsules...just to allow me to handle it, show it, etc. The rest goes generic tubes. Already toned and general Constitutional coins go in flips. "Junk" constitutional goes into generic tubes, even AU/BU ones. Probably not an ideal situation, but good enough in my mind for non-graded coins.
I love monster toned Eagles
I have 3 sets of AE, 1986 to 2022 in Dansco Albums in fact I had to add a page to each album as the 2021 "New Type" AE filled the last hole. I purchased a used 4 page Dansco album then flipped the page backward so the date don't show, I added one page to each album and then added my 2022's. I keep each album in 2 large zip tight bags. I zip them almost closed, pull a vacuum then zip closed. My sets are not yet doing as you pictured, that's called "album" toning.😀 I have a "date set" of "BU" Morgan silver dollars, a full set (every mint/date) of "BU" Peace silver dollars, Eisenhower's, "Non BU" but close, Walking liberty half's and "BU" Franklin Half's. All in Dansco albums and stored the same as my Eagles, no toning. My tubes of Eagles are taped shut as are my many 1964 Kennedy, walkers, franklin tubes. AS for the air tites, as I call them if you search around on EBAY and buy in quantity you can get them around .30 to .35 cents each. I like them as you can handle the exceptionally nice Morgan's/Eagles/Walkers easily.
Airtight on mine for now!😁
I only have slabbed certified ASE'S. I only collect MS70 PR70 SP70 RF70 EN70 and scarce or rare dates and mint marks. My silver stack doesn't included ASE'S only silver rounds. Thousands of them started stacking in 1969 while in the military. I was buying rounds back then for 1.50 each. I also bought bullion silver. I was collecting 90% constitutional silver since my paper routes days back in the 50'S & 60'S. Honestly I have over 30,000 Troy ozs. of .999 silver. My wealth increased over 150,000 dollars in the last 7 days since the rise in gold and silver. NO plans to sell.
Don’t keep silver coins in flips. The issue is neither moisture nor oxygen. The issue is the softener added to the plastic. Do never use PVC flips.
I don't like them anyway, the coin keeps coming out.
Dary Kinnaman That’s another argument against flips. 😉
Do they contain sulfur?
Hard boiled eggs tones them up nicely
I look at silver like a woman, I love the feel and sound of it while you're playing with em.🤩😎🙆♂️
What's your opinion on the Whitman Classic Coin Albums?
How long before an American Eagle, exposed to oxygen, starts showing signs of toning? Thanks for the useful information!
I vacuumed seal my silver
Do they still make Intercept Shields?
Very informative. What about snaplocks? I currently have mine stored in those.
Most snaplocks will cause them to tone over time... if you wanna see if you get something pretty leave em otherwise I'd put em in something else. :)
@@SilverSeeker I'll have to swap them over to airtights as soon as I get the $. Thanks!
Many collector set of most coins do not
have a great desirability. It is difficult to find
buyers for them. Many times sets are broken
up for the desirability of selected coins.
Let me just say this. It is true that silver is silver regardless of the conditions its in; however, two MS silver eagles are priced differently if one is keep in MS condition when the other got toss around and become junk silver. If you buy silver for silver content then stay away from new items because the premium are higher, stick with junk silver and it could never get worse.
#truth
How about gold eagles? How do you store those?
I just touched mine without gloves. Lol im new to metals but i wanted to make sure i got what i paid for. How do i wipe the oils off??? I really screwed myself without any precautions😔. Same with putting it down on fabric. Please advise
Oxygen, while it does have some reactivity to Silver is not the problem, 2 other elements may have a greater effect; that is Sulphur and Chlorine. Chlorine was/ is used in the manufacture of paper, and Sulphur comes from your breath, when combined with moisture that is very bad for your Silver
I have some stored individually in flannel. Some of it it tarnished pretty badly
I bought an empty tube on Ebay and spent about 3 years filling it.
But seriously, that’s awesome
Three yrs for 20 coins WOW at that rate it will take about 80 yrs to get a monster box
I keep all of mine at the coin dealer.
Silver bars ?? I seal them, with purchasing invoice, with a "food saver" vacuum packaging. You're good to go from oxidation and scratching with careful handling.
I imagine you could "food saver" vacuum pack those silver eagle canisters as well maybe doing 5 canisters of 20's(totaling 100 coins).
They won't stack as well but it does solve an issue or tarnishing.
Very good idea! Thanks for the info.
Man I wish I had a tube of silver eagels
Is cheap. We waste money every day. Why not invest a lil while prices are way down. :) Right now you can get a tub for around $400 in 2011 tubes of 20 where going for over $800.00
Seems that the Littleton album showed more severe toning toward the rings (metal interference?).
Or pages don't pack together as tightly nearer the rings.
what if there was like 10 in there and it was opened by the precious metal seller and taped because it be less than 20 count? Would it still be as airtight as from the US MINT? i don't recommend using the flips for more than 1 year. I learned the hard way. Those things are useless.
I keep a dessicant package from a shoe box in my tube of eagles and some in my other box of silver
And you brought that up right as I commented about it 😂😁😁
I have a Littleton coin album for Morgan and peace dollars. Should I take them out and put them in a roll until I find a better album? Any feedback is greatly appreciated
If you dont want them to tone I'd put them in better storage yea.
Ok thx for uploading
7:45 i will take it haha just kidding also I like the 1995 🤑🤑🤑
Just by slabs and Graded Eagles
So how do you store a monster box of Silver Eagles it's never been opened?
I put them all in airtight ringed capsules
Hey seeker I have 8 2009 30th anniversary silver pandas still in mint capsules very clean and nice do you think it would be a good idea to try and have them slabbed if I was wanting to flip them later I only have $18 apiece in them I had 10 and sold 2 of them to a friend they had a mintage of 300k
Oh nice pieces! Umm slabbung them all would cost a bit but if you get some 70s it'll be worth it so your call there :)
Silver Seeker that’s what I was thinking they are all still in mint capsules Very tight seal I believe the way they look they would grade high 60’ if not 70s but I am not a expert I am pretty sure the mint seal capsules have not been opened
You can just reverse the tarnish with baking soda. Annoying, but the value of the coin is unaffected by tarnish.
Do you have a link where to buy these items?
You're better off buying individual silica packs and 3m tarnish strips and putting them in the tube.
@@SilverBritches I have a bag of silica packs I bought from Amazon. Thank you. 👍👍
@@CashAndCoinsYT I use the ones from my wife's shoe purchases.
Silver Britches smart!!!
Nice looking😳😳😳😳
who is the best site to purchase silver online from that isn't trying to scam you?
Just put individual coins in airtite holders into a ziplock bag, and suck all of the air out of
it before you seal it.
0:12.
You can't just objectively say that thwy aren't good because that's subjective, and it all depends entirely on how you look at it.
You should say:
"I think that some ways of storing Silver Eagles are better."
But you shouldn't objectively say:
"Storing Silver Eagles in some ways is better."
Because that's subjective, and entirely depends on hiw you look at it, but feel free to correct me if you believe that i'm wrong or may be wrong, and feel free to try, and prove me wrong if you think that i'm wrong, and if anyone can prove me wrong, And I look forward to being proven wrong if anyone can prove me wrong, And, Regardless, I look forward to hearing y'all veiwpoints, and perspectives on this subject matter.
I use my food saver to suck all the air out and have beautiful tarnish free coins.
Whether eagles are in tubes, flips, or capsules.....place them in a box with silica (Do Not Eat) pouches to absorb moisture. You'll b good 2 go for years 👍
I wrote before u pulled out the packet so we're on the same page my friend 😀
How do you get finger prints off an 86' eagle?
I want to chime in here about the Littleton allbum. I have one that specifically says Archival Quality on the front. (It's also a newer edition 1986-2014). Yours doesn't. According to what I've read, the pages are now acid-free. I haven't used this album yet, so I can't vouch for its safety. But it's possible that your album was made with less than archival quality pages, therefore the toning. Just my two cents.
I have one of the littleton albums as well, but its designed with pages to accept flips, rather than the coin directly.
I just keep them in a pile on my desk.
The tubes are not airtight. If they were, the suction would stop you from opening it like you did.
You are correct I spoke to that in the vid. :)
I knew a girl who could suck the air out.
@@darykinnaman2319 Hearsay reports are valid in numismatics
@@mikesloothaak679 - If silver goes to $100 oz I am happy with melt.
The toning is from the brass grommets oxidizing that's why all the first one in the page r such rainbow
Inn the safe inn the tube .....
Agree
Glad you’re wearing gloves
I'm even more careful. I only pick up a coin from the sides and only with gloves as well. I became that way because I started as a coin collector, not an investor. Perhaps it is strange giving respect to a coin centuries old, even though it has probably been handled countless times.
I would take all the toned coins all day long
