kittens tend to run hot, the best way to know if your cat has a fever is to check their temperature either by ear or butt

Best thing you can do and I know it sucks is take them to a vet. We can’t help them at home.

I have a 16 week old kitten. That had FUO. Negatuve all down the line of tests. But he main issue was high fever. 105.8. Would wax and wane. And the lethargy, inappitance ect... that goes with it. We hospitalized for 32 hours and then sent home with supportive care. Including sub q fluids. She has recovered. But im pretty sure she get a lower grade fever. We are almost 2 weeks out. She has been running and playing the last 5 days. I can't get a rectal. But the digital themometer in the ear hits 102, and im sure that's off by 1 to 2 degrees ( was when I compared it to when the vet checked it verses when I did). So thats why I believe she still has a low fever.
Anyway my question is.. the vet said it would take a while, and she would have a fever for at least week. How long is normal? She has a history of soft stools.. ( we are thinking tummy sensitivities as fecal was negative and we gave meterodoizol to be careful to, and even panacur as she was previouslybtreated for giardia at her shekter) and im noticing its safer again.. though it has done that since I got her. She had actual diareaha when we first got here, but since then its just softer than normal stools, looses its shape, but not actual diareaha.
I worry alot. She also has a mild CH diagnosis, which I dont belie:e to be relevant, but because if that I already worry about her alot, even though it's so mild.. and we lost a 5 week old kitten shortly before adopting this one, so im paranoid and high anxiety. I would love any feed back or advice, or just what is normal and what isn't when dealing with FUO ( fever of unknown orgin) that is suspected to be viral. Though fever panel idexx #3540 realPCR test was all negative. Not feline corona virus, not FIV or FLEV, no calici, nothing. Blood test was considered unremarkable other than high wbc that indicated fighting infection. And low counts consistent with not eating like lower creatine, lower BUN, hypoglycemia ect. Though her rbc was a bit low, which made me nervious, but non of the vets seemed to care. The veternary notes called it mild anemia likely due to age. I also read they wrote mild thrombocytopenia . But only one doctor wrote that out of the 4 that saw her. The rest mainly wrote that her tests were unremarkable and consistent with infection. Also id be happy to send you my blood work if needed thanks so much. Have a great day. Sorry I wrote so much, and there are probably typos, my phone is old and awful. Sorry again!!

We took my baby to the ER a few weeks ago because he was very lethargic and not playing. Seemed to be having a hard time eating and drinking. Well he had a 103.6 fever. To me that sounded so high, it was terrifying. They gave him antibiotics did blood work which came back normal and a fluid pack and we followed up with his vet a few days later. Vet called it a fever of unknown origin and just to watch him. He seemed to slowly get better. The only thing we could think was because we recently introduced our new kitten that he caugh a big or something or possibly stressed himself out so bad. They said I could buy an ear thermometer at Walmart and periodically check his temp. Which has been fine. So you can get an ear thermometer for your cat just make sure it’s a decent one and you put it in far enough to get a temp.

Can I ask how long it to to completly recover. My 16 week old had fever of unknown orgin. Started like yours, but then she got very sick. And took her to ER vet as we decided it was to bad to wait for her primary care vet appointment. Her fever however was very high. Almost 106. It was 105.8 . They decided to keep here for 32 hours. ( wanted longer but it was 1000$ a day plus all the tests and bloodword and ultrasounds... so it was nolonger an option) we did supportive care at home. Took about a week but she recovered. But I feel like now almost 2 weeks later I think she still has a low grade fever. ( im buying a better themometer, as I cant get a consistent reading with what I got, and she won't do a rectal. So I have to get an ear one.
Anyway im worried thT if she does have a fever.. about how long she has had it. Did it take your guy a while to completely recover. We also had all negative tests, and our only symptom was fever and the lethargy and inappitance that comes with most fevers. Have a great day, and if you respond thank you so much for taking th time to read this and respond. I'm so glad your little one is feeling better. Have a great day!
