    This is absolutely ok regarding consumption. Those highway runs are anyway 3-4 times a year long trips but out of 35.000 km per year remaining 25.000 are done mostly short trips. I can not afford diesel cause of the short trips which would kill the engine but this hybrid fits in my profile. I can live with filling 3 times for 1500km trip and at 9 liters per 100km.

    I wish Toyota would sell this in North America, but they don't and won't, because they think everyone here only wants SUVs and crossovers. This is virtually the same length as the Corolla Sedan/Saloon, but it's way more practical and I think it looks much better. And the Corolla hatchback is badly designed, unfortunately. Just another example of how people in Europe have a much better selection of cars to choose from. I'm jealous.

      Not at all, pretty standard for a petrol in midsized car. It is actually worse than their 1,5 non hybrid 92kW. So unless you need to slowdown and accelerate reguralry during your highway drive, it is no so efficient. In the city trafic it would have been a different story.

      @@adamek9750 Some optimization here and there and it adds up to the result. Aero, tyre rolling resistance, low viscosity engine oils etc. Interestingly enough the 2.0 Hybrid was more efficient on this channel at highway speed. I believe that it has different gearing optimized more towards highspeed due the power reserve. And also water cooled heat exchanger for exhaust manifold. Therefore it does not need to enrich the fuel in order to cool down the exhaust at high load.

      Easy explanation for this from a Yaris hybrid owner. At 100 kph, it's more efficient for the engine to run at a higher rpm and load and charge up the battery at the same time. Once the battery is charged, it'll sit around 4 l/100 km more or less. At 120 kph, the engine can run at maximum efficiency without charging the battery, so it doesn't. Hence the similar figures.

    • @GaryBullDog
      @GaryBullDog 9 місяців тому

      @@CheesemanGT It seems like you haven't fully grasped how the hybrid system works in Toyota vehicles. With the Atkinson cycle engine, it achieves the highest efficiency at certain RPMs. For the 1.8-liter engine, this is around 1400 RPM. It's at these RPMs that you can achieve the best fuel economy. When driving at low speeds, the engine always operates at these RPMs. It uses some of the energy to turn the wheels and the rest to charge the battery. At high speeds, the battery usually doesn't charge beyond 50%, and all of the engine's energy goes directly to the wheels. The most economical speed is typically around 50-80 km/h, depending on the engine and aerodynamics. At this speed, the engine operates at its most efficient RPM, around 1400, and the car likely won't use electric power. With my Corolla, I managed to achieve a minimum fuel consumption of 2.9 liters per 100 kilometers. I recorded a video on my channel when I bought the car, precisely to check the fuel consumption. The channel's author simply forgot to reset the average fuel consumption, so the fuel consumption didn't increase much. Or they measured it while going downhill or over a short distance. At speeds of 100 and 120 km/h, the fuel consumption will differ by at least 1 liter.

      I am driving it for about two weeks now, 557km total city/open road drive, still breaking in the engine. 4,2 l/100km average, 3-4l/100km suburban. 57% EV drive, total 17 h 34 min driving time. Couldn't be happier with a car. It is dead silent regarding car rattles, squeaks and noises even with extreme temperatures these days in south Europe (+35-40°C outside, probably 50-60 inside before I turn on the AC). Comfortable on rough terrain, gear changing is imperceptible, very easy to drive, electric boot with virtual pedal (extremely useful when my hands are full of loads, this should be the standard on any car), climate control and more via the app that actually works... This is definitely not a car for non-stop highways, but for city and suburban driving. Although I tried the test sedan variant with the same engine on the highway and the car met all my expectations there as well. It accelerates well enough to do overtakings safely, not at all as noisy at high speeds as some write, everyone feel comfortable in the car, reaches 130km/h quite quickly, the feeling of driving speed is lower than it actually is, comes with tons of modern useful driving assist tech included. Also no dpf/gpf/diesel/turbine headaches if you mainly drive city/short distances. Here in Croatia it also comes with 10 years or 150k km warranty on everything. I would say, a car for pleasant cruises and driving according to regulations. Really enjoy driving it.
