Smolensk is located on the Dnieper River. The Dnieper is the fourth longest river in Europe after the Volga, Urals and Danube.
In ancient times, Smolensk was surrounded by a 6.5 km long stone wall. There were 38 towers, only 17 remain. The work was led by the architect Fyodor Kon. What has this wall seen! And Poles, and French, and Germans!
Smolensk is antiquity itself. How many churches are there!
Smolensk is rich in squares, parks, gardens and public gardens.
Victory Square is a major transport hub of the city.
On the square there is: a monument to the defenders and liberators of Smolensk, a monument to A.T. Tvardovsky and Vasily Tyorkin, a monument to the painter and sculptor M.O. Mikeshin.
The Pioneer Park is adjacent to the square. Named in honor of the heroes of the pioneers of the Great Patriotic War. A place of memory and mourning. In the park near the wall there is a mass grave of Soviet citizens tortured by fascist executioners.
A monument to the partisans who took part in Operation “Children” - the evacuation of children from the Smolensk lands to the rear due to the threat of their abduction to Germany. 3225 children were saved.

Heroes' Memorial Square.
The eternal flame is located here; participants of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 are buried. The grave of the hero of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Egorov, who, together with Meliton Kantaria, hoisted the banner of victory over the Reichstag in 1945.
Bust of M.I. Kutuzov, who was awarded the rank of Field Marshal and the title of Prince of Smolensk for the liberation of Smolensk.
Busts of the generals who defended Smolensk on August 4, 5, 1812: Barclay de Tolly, Bagration, Dokhturov, Raevsky, Neverovsky and Olenin.
Blonier Garden.
A romantic place with a singing fountain, a monument to the Russian composer Glinka, a monument to a deer and a cafe “Russian Courtyard” with national Russian cuisine.
Lopatinsky garden.
One of the city's attractions with beautiful ponds and swans, there is even a black swan and a cheerful squirrel. There is a monument to Skalon, a hero who died defending the city in 1812.
In the city center behind the Pobeda cinema there is a multi-park of Soviet cartoon characters - I think children and adults will be happy to meet them!

Rachevsky Park is the creation of local residents, they got together and improved this picturesque place.
