folk will say this "galvanized" hip-hop after a couple of dry years, but I think these 2 guys did damage to the genre & culture more than anything else. to hear 2 of the most famous and acclaimed rappers ever stoop lower and lower, making disgusting statements and accusations, purely to tear eachother down, says terrible things about what matters in the rap game in 2024.
the public mob lynching of Drake on social media is only going to look more sinister as time goes on as well. it all felt predetermined. people had already decided they hated this guy, they just needed someone to come along and give them the language to validate it

You're right. This made the genre more embarrassing, it didn't make it "more competitive" at all.
And you know why? Because they're both wack. Wack rappers can't participate in a genuine rap beef. Kendrick the fake prophet ain't sending no opps to Toronto and Drake out here painting his nails and acting zesty.

Kendrick Lamar definitely doesn’t exist without Drake, The higher ups obviously wanted to tear Drake down as Kanye stated there seemed to be this excitement for the elimination of Drake, the internet already determined this battle before being settled, they were so bias that as soon as Drake dropped a track it was already considered mid but when it came to Kendrick his fans said there’s no way you can process the all the bars with one listen, whenever Drake put out a track with claims they stated that he needed to provide proof but when Kendrick made claims it was Drake needs to address them immediately, the battle was so one sided, Kendrick last song was so garbage and the beat was trash as well, so all in all the battle was settled before it even began, if Drake would’ve did all the records Kendrick did they would’ve said it was a flop but if Kendrick did Drake records they would’ve said it was a masterpiece..

I'm gonna be honest, I think you give Drake way too much credit. Yes he's easily one of better rappers of his generation, but he does colonize other artist's ideas and fakes accents to stay relevant. He's better at making music than most of the artists he copies, but a snake is a snake. You seem to have no problem with Jay-Z stealing lyrics, idk if you complained about that ever.
I think artistic integrity is important and Drake has shown to have absolutely none whatsoever. He's just biting styles left and right and finding new rappers to take on tour every year. At some point it becomes exhaustion. He's not giving them "exposure" no more, it's a mutually beneficial relationship designed to keep Drake hot but also help elevate the other artists involved as Drake is already an established musician. I don't like Kendrick at all - but he's not guilty of finding hot artists and staying relevant by platforming them every release.
I think Kendrick does the opposite - he mostly stays solo and doesn't collaborate with many hot artists other than the pop guys in the mid 2010s. However, I do believe Kendrick bought his way to success and I would love to see someone expose him for it. The Rolling Stone/Billboard articles have always been fishy and whenever Kendrick releases nobody ever stands a chance against him. I feel like J Cole was the only one capable of exposing Kendrick driding at awards but he doesn't have a mainstream enough appeal to capture casuals. Kendrick at least makes funny voices.
Ugh there's so much more I have to say, but I don't wanna ramble for no reason. This shit is just stupid, wild, a conspiracy. I think the truth will come out at some point - and hopefully everyone involved is wiped out.

And we know why. he a Canadian too. Sayin' that Kendrick didn't say anything worth a fuck is disingenuous. He exposed him. Drake is actually the jealous one cause numbers aside, he never had that organic appreciation that KDot gets. He's always longing for that validation, that's why he took the "Control" verse so personally, that's why when his 1st black American card (Wayne) expired he renewed it with Future, Thug and em (ATL). We all love Drake but we know that it's his pop/r&b records that sell the most, not his rap ones. Most of his best rap joints are derivative of what somebody less popular already did.

@@Ooblivion533 I've tried to give Kendrick the benefit of the doubt but he's extremely hit and miss. "wop wop wop dot fuck em up", "say it with me OVO-hoe" or whatever it was. Dude has laid out some pretty serious allegations and is just treating it like it's fun and games. This is a weak beef with strong tea in my opinion, both these dudes would never end up in a street fight yet Kenny is out here saying he wants Drake dead in with cartoon voices.
And you pull the pop card on Drake but Kendrick's highest selling records are pop songs as well. I think they're just as bad as each other, it's just Kendrick doesn't drop as often.

Both singles "Push Ups" and "Family Matters" did poor commercially, neither hitting top 5 on the Billboard when a Drake single usually charts in the top 5 every time. Kendrick got a #1 song as a feature on Like That, and I believe Not Like Us is #1, although I do stress #1 singles are not as important as people think. I being introduce, A bit of a WWE/Netflix special, yes of course, its been that way for over 20 years now. However that rapid speed was entertaining.
What I don't like is the constant changing of the rules when it comes to a diss battle. Many are judging based on "exposure" and dirt, and not the overall performance: delivery, wordplay, and theme-focused(both Drake and Kendrick feel a bit short). They feel short on emcee criticism(catalog, style, musical imprint) so im not quiet sure.

He also showed how bitter he is and all of his hypocrisies and prejudices. I think a lot of people are gassing him up online cause there are a lot of Drake haters, but in the real world most people won't care about this and most people will keep listening to Drake. Ultimately the best diss from Drake to Kendrick was saying "you're not in the big 3 because these 4 other artists outsold your last album".
Kendrick's best diss was "your steeet shit is you appropriating these Atlanta artists".
A couple of funny lines outside of that, but it's all hearsay shit that doesn't really impact their contributions to music. I guess Drake shot himself in the foot by defending himself against the accusations, but it's whatever, i doubt it'll have any impact on his career if anything itll prolong Kendrick's.

@@3lancerofficialmaybe871 I have no idea. I'm inclined to believe it has something to do with this beef since the timing is odd. Some people are claiming it's do with a Cash XO and OVO beef, others are saying it could be a crazed fan. I don't think Kendrick has hitters in Toronto.

Kendrick absolutely demolished Drake lol. Everything was calculated strategically. He predicted every move he did. See without context you can spiral into an endless loophole of subjectivity let alone biases.
Kendrick has the dexterity to write at that level of lyricism. Kendrick doesn't have to lyrically decimate him because Drake can't rap at all. So Kendrick actually wanted expose his fake characterizations of that of which people view him to be.
And everything I'm saying has been proven and documented as well. You saying him Kendrick getting personal perfectly described what beef actually is. Drake asserted himself and spoke on Kendrick' family vehemently and that's why Kendrick right after nuked him. Like Kendrick said, "Don't tell lies about and I won't tell any truths about you"
It was methodical tactics. Hip Hop has been at standstill for decades and Kendrick has incited something much greater than Drake could never do objectively. Yea and Drake is a bigger immortalist with all the status and clot and still got steamrolled by a quote on quote redundant artist lmao.
That just shows you how stupidly incompetent Drake is in beefing and in music in general. Not only did Kendrick predictably diss Drake in simultaneity, but he also characteristically deconstructed the falsity of his somewhat highly venerated, moral compass.
