  • The Kamado Joe Classic 3 arrived this week so I wanted to take a moment to show you the grill and give some comparisons to the Classic 2. I also broke the grill in by cooking a 10 pound Boston Butt...

    I like that KJ is always innovating. Some others in this market are standing still.
    I'm not sold on this new technology yet, but I do like the additional capacity you can now get with this new design. Now I can fit my logs in there without splitting them up so small. Plus 3 levels lets me use a drip pan, and 2 additional levels of food. I can see 6-8 racks of ribs getting on a classic now. That's good.

    Nice vid. BTW, have seen some friends use Harbor Freight poly coated gloves for cooking. Had a pack I bought for use around the house and once I sweated in a pair my hands broke out in a rash. Eventually I had to see my doctor because of pain and swelling and he advised not using ANY Chinese made gloves due to chemical contamination. My hands took about 3 weeks to heal the backs of them and I tossed the remainder of the gloves. Now I would never even touch food with them and I'm told silicone products from China may have the same issues. Bonus! I scored a Primo Oval Jr. at the local thrift outlet for $40, including the stainless stand. I'm now learning to cook with it and plan on adding the splitter and the top grates. My pizza stone doesn't fit this Jr. but I'll find one that does. The Primo glazed one is at a premium but I'm tempted.

    Have y’all considered creating a device/tool to make it easier to get the firebox “petals” aligned for ease of placing the top fire ring? Especially for a one person assembly? And will you be doing a cook with the SlōRoller without it being protected by a pan or foil or........?

      Yes, I would like to see a catch pan on the bottom rack just above slo roller and meat on the top rack. How much meat will fit in top rack and how well does it cook? Would also like to see no catch pan and meat on the rack just above the slo roller. How does that cook?

    I just got a big joe a few months ago and love it, except the cart. Casters are too small and a bottom shelf is an obvious add on. Has anyone fabricated a shelf on the big joe cart? I can mig so it shouldn’t be too hard but pls let me know any ideas or lessons learned. And any ideas on upgrading the casters would be helpful too. Thx!w

    I would love to get this, but none of the vendors in the Boston area seem to have the classic 3 available nor do they help with assembly. There are plenty of classic 2 vendors and it’s frustrating that the Kamari joe website doesn’t even sell the classic 3 directly.

    I don’t even know what model I have-whatever they made about 6 years ago-but I love it. I’ve never regretted selecting Joe, although the store had only one alongside a dozen or more of the more common brand.
    Come on, man, looking to detect difference in flavor due to these Classic III “enhancements” is really a stretch, won’t you admit? Remember to control your experiments for variances in meat, rub, coals, chips, etc. - oh, and do blind tastings.
    Still, enjoyed your video. Thanks.

    • @josephnmn146
      @josephnmn146 5 років тому

      The slow roller is only able to stand low heat. If your doing something like pizza you need the heat defectors still. Plus on the new gen 3 it has 3 levels you can pack food in instead of 2 (if its thin enough like ribs) but only if you use the heat deflectors because the slow roller is tall and takes us space from 1 of those racks
