I've been waiting for this for many years now, but I can't help but feel that this is nothing new or exciting. Book 2 was such overkill with the amount of albums put out where the last 8 or so were just not all that interesting. Now another 11 albums that sound remarkably similar to the last series of albums and it just seems kind of silly at this point. I am dying for some fresh material from Zorn, but his output in the last 3 yeas or so has been stagnant at best and self-parody at worst. The best stuff to come out of the Tzadik camp recently has been the Spectrum series -- the tribute to Connie Converse was one of the best albums of last year, period. The Masada books are an epic feat of composition, but it seems clear that no one, even Zorn, can maintain such prolific output without emptying the well.
You can't keep borrowing and stealing from other composers, so you write a short polymetric ostinato or a motive or theme in his so-called jewish modes - which so many other composers did before him - and leave the rest to a bunch of good improvisors. How boring!
People talking about something on the below section but music is so much better!!!
