Thank you for the inspiration! The trailer I bought for $40 but I painted it with high heat paint. Next I always add a small bottle of (dawn dish soap) per tank of water. Dawn dish soap adds weight to water and acts as foam.
Cool idea! Keep in mind that firefighting is extremely dangerous. I am a firefighter with over 30 years of experience and I think everyone who has a system like this should be aware of this. Some tips... leave your recirculate / tank fill valve cracked when pumping water so that the pump doesn't heat up and prematurely wear out when water is not flowing. Temporarily close it during drafting so you get a good draft. Also, get your self a foot valve/ strainer for drafting. This will make pulling a draft or suction water with your suction hose, much easier. Keep your system full of gas and water during fire season so its ready to go. Be safe brother!
Not a bad idea ther bud, pretty fool proof system not much can go wrong. Keep it coming with the project videos too ther pretty interesting to watch and get ideas.
I have a very similar setup. I added a small float to my strainer so it keeps it off the bottom of the pond I pump out of so it don’t get clogged up easily.
Hello from Nova Scotia, Not much to improve on, maybe a few fire rakes. You could check out the 1" forestry hose, see the difference for pressure/distance /water volume, as its easier to drag around and you could run two lines if need be....usually 1" is good for grass fires. I'm on a lake and purchased the fire package from Princess Auto/expensive but worth it...we've had 3 fires last year, 3, 8 and 40 kms away. As always another great video...
Those are some good suggestions. The first year I patched this together I filled the tank for the first time and that evening there was a ditch fire right outside the resort village entrance just down the road. We were the first on scene with our wagon and it worked great!. Might try that 1" hose, been curious about the pressure/distance /water volume differences myself. Thanks for watching as always.
Do you mean the pump, homeless, nozzles etc for about 900$? I'm looking at that now. Seems great.. still deciding but making a decision fast. Bad year here in BC
@@cdnjan Princess Auto has a fire pump that comes with a cart ,hose and nozzle...its about 800.00 I purchased 2 years ago, works great, you might want to buy extra lengths of hose. I also have 2 sprinklers mounted on my roof....
@@jedidiah5131 thank you.. yes looks pretty good. I saw a few folks buy it and modify it right away. I don't want that. It seems silly to toss new parts. So just not sure if I want to buy it all together or pieces. What are you using as your water source for the roof sprinklers? I started this process thinking I just wanted those. I quickly realized there is no where near enough pressure for them to do much of anything. So here I am lol. I am rural.. very forested an impossible driveway for a firetruck.. just hope to keep any embers at bay until help arrives. I've been here 33 years every summer it's nerve wracking. @@cdnjan I'm on a lake and very secluded. The local volunteer departments are well trained and quick to respond and they know of my place and have been into take a look around for pre fire planning. I use a small wajax pump for the roof sprinklers, lots of pressure. I've had two large fires come within 8km over the years. I have also limbed all close trees at least 15-20' up. There are also fire proof tarps you can buy to cover your house, I think I seen them in the states, but are probably very expensive. The fire pumps I have should be sufficient for any fires and reach of stream is well over 100' with lots volume. I also have 10 sheets of metal roofing to place against my house walls depending on the direction of the fire.... I was a military firefighter and volunteer for 30 years ....so I have a little experience under my belt. Best of luck.
Love your work, I built a similar one that goes in the back of a pickup. I did add a 2” bango filter before the pump. Just a little extra insurance to help keep your nozzle clean
You could use this fire truck to get water to the tanks that supply water to the cabin/ yurt if you have (or will install ) a cistern-like system to provide running water.
You bet. Water purification is one the list of projects for next summer. We'll be heading into freezing temps overnight in the next month or so so no point putting it together yet. Thanks for watching!
basically i built the same setup, but i used storz couplers. at storz kuppler you don't have the problem with male and female side and they are standard at the fire brigade all over the country.
Great video! In the process of building one myself , my one question for the trailer is how can i make it heavy duty to support the weight of the water? Did you replace the axle or springs on yours? All these trailers ive found the payload capacity is just about the weight of the tank filled to the top
Ours is probably NOT heavy duty enough to officially support this payload. If we were to rip at full speed down the grid roads with it I'm sure we'd have issues. We take it slow and stead when it's at full capacity and place a block of wood between the frame and springs so that it doesn't sag enough to snap a leaf. We're mostly concerned with our 5 acre yard as far as protection, but have rolled this thing a few kms without fail to help put out a resort village fire in the past. Thanks for watching!
@@rexhavoc2982 if you do not need strings on all the course of putting a large button is transfered directly into the tire wheel hub and axle which are already at maximum capacity, recipe for broken parts

The fire hose I'd be concerned about leaving out in harmful UV and weather, but the garden hose I'm hoping I can find a decent reel for so that I can leave that attached all the time. Thanks for watching!.
I'm building one now using yours for a model. My engine is a Honda and the exhaust will be pointed toward the plastic water tank. Will it melt it? Heat shield? Did you have that problem?
I assume you mean if I want the pump to sit there and "idle" without the hose on? Yes, we open the valve into the tank and it just cycles until you're ready again.
May I suggest a task force tips pistol grip nozzle from eBay the long nozzle as you may get more control on flow from the nozzle from light must to full gush

If you fold the fire hose in half before you roll it up it’s much easier to throw it out if you in a hurry.

Hi, Where did you source your rigid suction hoses? Do they resist collapsing under pump suction?
2, 90 degree elbows on the tank return hose. Make a cover for the engine and pump.
The 90's wold be helpful, yup. Thanks for watching!

Yup be very careful with melting the tote on the exhaust. A heat shield would be wise. Mine points to the side, so not an issue.
What about pressure relief if you want to shut off the nozzle do you just crack open the tank valve a little? Or does it have a pressure relief valve?
I assume you mean if I want the pump to sit there and "idle" without the hose on? Yes, we open the valve into the tank and it just cycles until you're ready again.

If you can, get the adjustable gallonage one, set it to the almost lowest gallonage possible it'll save you a ton of water
Did you add the RPM meter? Or standard.
I belive in DOING somthing
But mat Will thath you can
Do 4X by hawing 2x1000L
So please find a bigger trille
And a ADD a second hose
What model pump is that?
2" power fist from Princess Auto (similar to harbor freight, but in Canada)
Never got to see it in use 😭
