This part of the movie gave me goosebumps...For whom the bell tolls playing. Perfect song .
Hosoi is so good he makes it into a competitors documentary
I was a kid in junior high at the height of this rivalry. It was amazing to see many of these events in person. There was an energy to it you can't explain, you just had to be there. These men are two of the best in history and still have a profound effect today. No matter which skater you rooted for back then, i think all of us who were there just hold both of them in equally high regard now that we're all so old! Lol.
For realz..
I was a skater kid in the age of the Bones Brigade. We never saw it as a rivalry. We saw it as one big happy family.
Both special.
Had the privilege of meeting both.
Legends.
Sydney Australia.
Hosoi has style, but Hawk has innovation
Without Style who Cares!🥱
i'd rather watch the style
Hosoi was the shizzle back then! crap im getting old.
I always preferred Hosoi if I had to choose although I'm a fan of Tony too and always respected his incredible skill and talent... I feel bad for Tony that he never deserved all the bullshit he got from so many people who were just being assholes...but I get it. I have a lot of respect for what Tony went through and he was graceful about it.
This is the Vert equivalent to Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song
They both shred. Very good thank you..
those two had EPIC battles....wow!
Hosoi was the best there was. He was the bad ass that gave skating its edge it needed.
Hosoi and Tony were and are two of the greatest to ever skate vert. Ever.
I am in my forties now and skated when these guys were big. I went to see them whenever I could. Tony was a better skater hands down. He just had more tricks and was more technical.
That’s exactly how the arguments started 😁
Tricks are for kids. Christian was Full Blast, Big Air, All Style! Max extension on everything and higher than everyone else. Christian is the best ever! He can ride anything.
This is and was epic
i'm not a skate fan; but watching hosoi fly so high (and at that speed) is amazing.
That comp they showed there I believe was actually won by hosoi. Vision pro jam
You're right. Here's a video link to a big portion of the whole contest where it shows Hosoi Won: ua-cam.com/video/84N1JIZiiWM/v-deo.html
Yeah, Hosoi won that one. I think they chose this clip, because it was live footage of them at their best, tho.
Hawk vs Hosoi was a legendary rivalry between two guys that really didn't hate each other. They were both just competitive, and used the competition to push each other.
Christian got the one in this clip, but overall, Hawk won the majority of their head-to-head matchups. Either way, both are Gods for what they did for vert skating.
Both are LEGENDS
This is so fucking Epic!
I still like both Tony Hawk, and Christian Hosoi! :)
They’re both great. Personally, I never respected the rock star attitude so I liked tony better. But as skaters, they’re phenomenal.
Chairman of the board! My Junior high school had this copy of SI in the library. John Elway was on the cover, 'Elway and every which way'. I've been an Elway fan ever since. I was already a Hawk fan. I remember being totally stoked to see Tony in SI.
Just watched Lords of Dogtown...Now I'm here💪
Man... brings back some great memories..
I only skated because i surfed. Taking the ollie to the wave was my goal... made floaters way more easy.. for sure..
Ode to the Bones Brigade..
Giving x-game tricks to way more than just the sk8 park.. for sure..
#SK8orDIE
I thought Hosoi won that contest
Matt Calay he did they edited it cause therw dicks
@@sereneburrito0476 lol aww stacy was behind that I can just see him in the editing room
Cruz is right. Christian beat Tony here to become the Vision Pro champ of 88. They totally edited it to insinuate Tony won for the documentary lol.
To be faire, Tony Hawk should have win. His runs were much trickier in that contest.
As much as I was a Hosoi fan of course they made Christian win. This was a Vision company event so for money purposes and sponsorship they weren’t going to let Hawk win.
@@Robertkattt I guess they are even since this is a powell video and Hosoi couldnt win for the same reasons
The song is Metallica I think. Can't wait to pre order this in October.
the greatest shreders in action
Stacy Peralta perfected the short shorts potato salad freestyle experience. For better or worse. .......
Tony Hawk is the Manute Bol of skateboarding.
Best comment I’ve read today 😁
I think it's more Michael jordan of skateboarding
Just realised David Gonzalez kinda looks like young Hosoi.
At his best hosoi was just the goat.
I don't like Tony to this day behind this rivalry. If I ever met him, I wouldn't spit on him (if you're from that era, you know what I'm talking about), but I'd find it hard to say anything complimentary. Hosoi all day! And I'll take that to my grave!
Christian was a beast.. So fierce... We can only ask what if?
Nobody'll ever beat HOSOI!!
hawk still tbe
Hosoi period ...
Christian Hawk, Tony Hosoi... Legend hath fortold of the one who would unite the poles. Repent! For the skate reckoning has begun.
see the shirt at :50 -- groovy!
uhum
Tony had the talent and manners. Hosai went huge, but didn't have tricks.
Yeah it is Metallica. For whom the bell tolls. Hope that helps boone281
Tony - "I didn't care about style." "I just wanted new tricks."
You know when Tony goes to sleep at night he dreams he has blonde hair extensions down to his ass, five pairs of sunglasses on, three watches, one headband, no shirt, a tan muscular chest, pink spandex shorts, and he's busting big style going "YEOWOOOOOO!" Getting all the chicks!
lol, you know it!! Haha - so true and to this day.
Rad
tony knew way more "tricks". In my opinion lame ass varials really. Hawks dad ran the pro circuit too. Dont get me wrong....Hawk was great....but he was groomed and the golden child soon as Peralta scooped him up. You can bank on what i say to be true. And from there it just gon bigger. If it wasnt for XGames and the video games....Hawk and thus skateboarding would he far less known in the public eye. As much hard work as Hawk put into it....just as much was "designed" by the leaders of the skateboard "industry".
why do people think tony hawk is for posers
Jeremiah Wilson That's completely bogus. I was a skater in the late 80s and early 90s, and even at that time Tony Hawk was the biggest and most recognizable name.
He is way better than tony hawk in my opinion.
He's not in mine.
He is in mine spiritually and mentally too
Absolutely not in my opinion
Absolutely is. What he could do no one got close.
