Interestingly, we had a discussion about the pronunciation of the word "Geyser" before we started filming, due to the extensive discussion "Glacier" created. Between us we pronounced the word four different ways, and settled on the most common pronunciation. We all have different accents and pronounce things in many ways, it's one of the things that make languages so fascinating. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on our upcoming accent video!
Geezer, couldn't stop thinking about old people
I love your videos Maddie. I could listen to you talk about science all day.
I've been to Yellowstone National Park, and it is truly amazing and spectacular.
And Maddie can pronounce geyser however she likes. I think her accent is wonderful.
HAAHAHAHAA that made my day "hot active geezers","geezers operating under extreme pressure"....the list goes on...still a great vid...thanks for the guyzer info :)
Your even incorrect. It's spelled geyser buddy. Your Welcome:)
And here I thought geezers were old guys. ;)
Maddie, you're great. But we Yanks pronounce it "guy-zer". :)
Hey glad I found this , our little ones will love these little tidbits of info.
I subbed immediately . We found this from ASAP science channel collab you guys did .
I grinned like a little kid every time she said geezer.
maddie looks amazing in that sweater
This video is just too dam cute. Had a good laugh and learned something too
Thank you for making these great videos! They're always really fun and informative to watch!
Just wanted to say thanks, you are saving my butt for a school assignment
"gee-zer" is closer to the original Icelandic pronunciation than "guy-zer"
No it's not.
You do realise I'm Icelandic? Both pronunciations are "wrong", the american just less so.
Your word is not as good as mine, as my name is Þór, or Thor as you choose to spell it.
Great vid but needs minor correction at 2:51... Geysers do not just form at the edges of tectonic plates. Yellowstone is not on the edge of a plate for example - it is located over a hot spot in the earth's magma instead.
Was gonna bring this up. Thanks:) Yellowstone has nothing to do with tectonics:)
Hi there, research indicated that global plate tectonic movement creates hot spots, that in turn creates volcanoes. Yellowstone sits on the North American plate and its movement over millennia has created a hotspot within Yellowstone National Park. You can find out more about this plate and its geothermal activity on these links:

Great video. Good explanation
Geezers.... Love it
hey maddie i love ur videos and ur acent ;)
Glacier = "Glah-seeuh"
Geyser = "Gee-sir"
Glacier = "glay-cier"
Geyser = "gay-ser"
Glacier- "glay-sher"
Geyser- "Guy-zer"
Darilquel Johnson
YES.
Just came to hear Geysers called geezers. :D
Geezer and woe-ta. The accent is cute.
In the USA, Geezer is an old man. Geyser (Guyser, g-eye-zer) is what you were talking about. The way you say it humorously changes the definition for us. I didn't realize that it was pronounced differently over seas.
Hi Maddie!
I love geezer's with proper plumbing! I'm sorry England, as always with pronunciation, you have the right of it...
I like the way she pronounces geyser. It's kinda cute actually.
I love Maddy's videos, and this one too, but why is this under Zoo-La-La?
Geezer is an old man.
3 vital ingredients to make a geyser blow:
Well, Larry Flynt needs some water, 3 centerfolds and a lap dance! Giggity-goo!
No, but seriously, I'd like to apologize on behalf of my country ─ well, for 36% of us, at least ─ for all of the comments on this forum that contain the word "geezer" and a question mark in the same sentence ─ which, to politely correct some of my well-intentioned 36%er colleagues, is actually being said because of her dialect, not her accent.
LOL GEEZER.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to make these! On a comedic note, your pronunciation of geyser as "gEzer" means something entirely different in the US. A geezer in the US is a derogatory term for an old person, specifically an old man. In the US the word geyser is pronounced "gIzer" with the "gey" part sounding like eye or guy.
And all this time I thought a Gezer was some 80 year old who would say, "Maddie, marry me!"
I know certain words are pronounced differently in the UK and the US
But come on
GEEZER... Really???
No comment, even though this is a comment.... Good work Maddie on the report!
You should do a video
On somnimulences(sorry if my spelling is out of place.(
"geezers" = what we call old people haha.
How does a blindfolded pigeon find it's way back home? Also, are there any other species that have this ability?
I had to watch this a second time because I was too distracted the first time by the way she pronounced geyser.
It's a true pleasure to learn Geography while looking at a beautiful girl
I must agree on this 100% Maddie is just adorable :)
She has the most adorable smile
3:20 she also adds an "r" in magma, very strange for an Australian to add an "r" with the accent.
maddie i love you but....geezer?. That's a weirder pronounciation than "Glassyer"
I found it funny that the glacier video is actually linked at the end of the video.
I know geysers are old. But don't insult them calling them geezers. Lol
Geezers? Wait, what are we talking about?
I'm afraid Maddie will literally bite me.
does that mean that the eventual moving of the tectonic plates will stop Ol' Faithful in the future?
Not for a very very long time. Yellowstone has nothing really to do with tectonics. It's a hotspot, a place that has a direct connection to the mantle. It's on a continental plate, and they move very very slowly. In hundreds of millions of years it will move. Likely forming a new supercontinent. Old faithful will remain such for longer than humans are likely to be around.
Thank you Mr. Irwin
In America a 'Geezer' is a strange old man.
"have u ever considered"
Yes I have considered doing.......... to u.
Um........Maddi, a "geezer" is an old man. A "g eye zer" is a forced ejection of water my dear. ( I am spelling obviously to show pronunciation diff.) I do love your show.
geesers LOL
What about the geysir(geyser) in Iceland
It's the same mechanism. Iceland has a lot more active volcanism tho. It's a double whammy, the mid ocean ridge runs through the middle of Iceland, plus it's a hot spot. Ridges spread the oceanic plates through divergent seismic action and the hot spot created the island. Both are very active, creating huge amounts of volcanic activity. Lots of geysers there. However, old faithful is just well known.
ohhh I thought it was from waves that gets inside a tunnel.. I was so wrong =))
I believe you pronounce it "geezer" in the UK lol
"...water rising from the centre of the Earth"
Nonsense. Correct this, at least in the description.
Hi Jay Smith, if you listen closely what we say is 'thermals rising from the centre of the Earth', not water (around the 2:23 mark)
Earth Unplugged Ah, thanks for the reply! Note to self, get ears checked.
But still, thermals come from the Earth's crust, the total thickness of which is only ~0.1% of the distance to the centre of the Earth. Even if it was just talking about the source of geothermal heat, ~50% comes from radioactive decay in just the crust.
Geezer? Geese-er? I kept hearing this as angry old people erupting. :) In the US, it's pronounced GUY-ser. The same way you wouldn't pronounce Stephen Fry's name "Stephen Free."
In American we say GUY-zer. In England they say GEE-zer.
Also, in the US, a geezer is an old man.
What would happen if I sucked up all tgeh water from a geyser?
How do volcanos just all of a sudden erupt when it's been hardened over several months or years?
Volcanoes erupt when rock inside the Earth melts, and as its volume increases magma is produced that becomes less dense than the surrounding rock. This magma begins to float to the surface, where any trapped water and gases can suddenly expand which in turn can cause the liquid magma to erupt violently from the mouth of the volcano. This process only happens once magma has filled the volcanoes chambers, forcing the pressurised magma to spurt through the opening.
It’s a bit like boiling a saucepan on a very low heat, if you put a lid on but leave a small gap, the water will quickly boil and ‘erupt’ through the gap due to the increased pressure, but if you left the lid off creating a much bigger opening that you pan would simmer for a much longer period of time.

Lol Geezer
Why is this 'Zoo La La'?
Umm... Because Maddie is in it?
I know a few geezers, should of said 'guyza'.
I know a lot of geezers. They're slow, old farts. :)
To be honest, I didn't really notice the weird pronunciation of "geyser" until I payed the comments section a visit.
im the 301th viewer. is this meant to be 301+? or 301 bloody you tube confusing me with their glitches
With nuclear power plants being replaced by geothermal ones, why can't we use Yellowstone Park as a geothermal energy site? Imagine if the constant geysers and the nearby magma were used to make safe and efficient power.
Because it IS a National Park. lol
We are. Yellowstone is a hotspot and a continental caldera (super volcano). Both known calderas in America are sites of geothermal power plants. Yellowstone and Long Valley Caldera in California.
Is it just me or did she sound a little sick today? She sounded a little congested.
I'm an old "geezer" and I've not yet erupted into steam. What's up with that?
Old faithful does NOT erupt every 91 minutes. Complete fabrication. The average interval is approximately 91 minutes, but the interval varies between around 45 and 120 minutes, correlated to the duration of the previous eruption.

[Geezer] or [Gizer]?
0:59 *geological
im british too and she is saying it wrong xD its GUY-SER
Where do volcanos come from
Not all geysers are heated water, there are such things as cold water geysers
a geyser is an old man he's probably retired and not working anymore
What I think you should work with animalist or testtube
Guy-ser
how do worms reproduce
The ignorance towards accents in this comments section astounds me.
You look at that but yet you still deny the work of a intelligent designer (God).
The y is pronounced as I
A geezer is an old man. You mean geyser. Pronounced "GUY-ZER"
It's geyser as guY, not geezer
First comment!! Bitches!!
It is pronounced "guy-zer" not "geezer" .
exactly
Um........Maddi, a "geezer" is an old man. A "g eye zer" is a forced ejection of water my dear. ( I am spelling obviously to show pronunciation diff.) I do love your show.
